In a hosted IIS7 environment, I am looking for the simplest way to use extension-less file names. Simply I have the following pages:
index.html (or .aspx) --> domain.com
gallery.html --> domain.com/gallery
videos.html --> domain.com/videos
etc...
I only have a handful of pages, I have no dynamic code, nothing special. All the examples I have found or methods I use in other sites I've developed revolve around dynamic content, pages, etc. I am simply looking for the simplest solution, ideally not requiring any sort of url rewrite module installed. Preferably, I could keep the .html extension instead of converting the site to a ASP.NET project, but that is an option.

I'm new to MVC and am trying to create some more user friendly controls for use on the Create views. I'm able to render a control using a combination of extensions and partial views, however I am unable to bind to those controls as I am with the out of the box controls like html.textboxfor such as:
Html.TextBoxFor( model => model.Capability_Menu_Group_Id)
Although the controls renders on the create form, the value is not set on create. I would like to set up this same construct used with TextBoxFor for my custom controls.

I'm trying to use the new Html helper extension Serialize() from the furthure assembly..
<%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<List<MvcApplication2.Models.ProductViewBinding>>" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<%@ Import Namespace="Microsoft.Web.Mvc" %>>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" >
<head id="Head1" runat="server">
<title>Index</title>
</head>
<body>
<div>
<% using (Html.BeginForm("Index", "Products", FormMethod.Post))
{ %>
<% int codeIndex = 0;
foreach (var item in Model)
{ %>
<%: Html.TextBox("Encryption[" + codeIndex + "].Value") %>
<%: Html.Serialize("Encryption[" + codeIndex + "].ID", item.ID) %>
<% codeIndex++;
} %>
<%: Html.SubmitButton("Click meh!") %>
<% } %>
</div>
</body>
</html>
Model
[Serializable]
public class ProductViewBinding
{
public object ID { get; set; }
[NonSerialized]
public object _value;
public object Value
{
get { return this._value; }
set { this._value = value; }
}
}
Controller
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Index([Deserialize] List<ProductViewBinding> Encryption)
{
return View("Index", Encryption);
}
It returns null when posted... but if I remove the [Deserialize] attribute it returns as it should but with the ID still encrypted.

I want my site visitors to be able to navigate to a page without having to type the .aspx extension. For example, if I have a page file named info.aspx I want site visitors to be able to go to that page with a URL like this: www.mysite.com/info without the aspx extension. Is there a way to do this in the web.config file?

I have a web site project using the .NET 2.0 Framework that I am working on in Visual Studio 2008. I am using a third-party DLL in my project. I have added a reference to the DLL in my project and I can use everything as expected, including a number of extension methods for certain objects. Intellisense sees these extension methods, and I am able to make use of them and I can build my project on my local machine without any errors.
However, when running my website on a production server, I get a Compilation Error saying that the extension method I am trying to use could not be found. I can use everything else in the DLL besides the extension methods on the production server.
This is my first exposure to extension methods and understand what they are, but I can't seem to figure out why I can't make use of these methods outside of my local machine.

I'm still trying to resolve a problem with relative links on a page that uses URL routing. The relative links work find when running from Visual Studio, but fail when deployed to a shared hosting account.I'm told that the difference is that Development Server handles all requests through ASP.NET handler but IIS7 doesn't. The result is that URLs with no extension are considered folders on my test machine, and filenames on the shared hosting account. That breaks the relative links.
It was suggested that I do wildcard mapping to IIS7. But I can't make random changes to the shared server machine. I also have concerns about routing everything through IIS, graphics files, style sheets, javascript files, etc. In addition, I also tried adding a <base> tag, which fixed this issue but broke other links on the page.
So I'm left with two questions.
1. If IIS isn't processing files without an extension, then how does my routed page display as an ASP.NET page?
2. What I'd really like to do is specify in my web.config that all files with no extension be handled the way they're handled when running from Visual Studio. I don't suppose that's possible.

some reason that I can't figure out, the iisreset command prohibits the webserver extension ASP.NET 2.0.50727 and this prevents the site being accessible.I would have to manually allow the webserver extension so that the site becomes accessible.This happens only on one of the load balanced servers.The rest work fine without any issues.

[FYI - Posted the same thing over at StackOverflow]I've used the UrlRewriting.Net module for a couple years now without any problems in Windows XP and Windows 2003. I just recently upgraded my home PC to Windows 7 and started developing a new website.The plan was to use .html extensions and rewrite them to their .aspx counterparts using the UrlRewriting.Net module. Everythingworks flawlessly in VWD 2008, but when I try running it through IIS7 it is a different story.
When I try to access a page via the .html rewrite I can no longer access Page.User; it keeps returning null. If I hit the page using it's .aspx extension, Page.User is correctly populated. I should also mention that I have a LoginView controller in my Master Page and it suffers from the same symptoms: When accessing via .html extension it shows the AnonyousTemplate; When using .aspx extension it properly shows the LoggedInTemplate. I'm guessing the two are related.[Note: I've also tried extensionless URLs and they exhibit the same problem]The only way I've gotten it to work is to switch the application pool to Classic, which then requires me to add an ASP.Net ddl handler for the .html extension [otherwise it is handled by the StaticFileHandler and comes up as a 404 error]. However, I'd like my web app to run properly for people without having to fiddle around with IIS.
So I am left with several questions:Does anyone have ideas as to why Page.User always equals null for .html => .aspx rewritten pages?Why does it work in VWD 2008, but not IIS7? What changed from IIS6 => IIS7 that could have caused this? Any other thoughts on workarounds?[Note: I just tried a .aspx => .aspx rewrite and it did not exhibit the problem. Not really what I want, but thought I should mention it.]

I manage a large asp.net site which has previously been converted from static html site to asp.net. For several reasons (mainly SEO) we decided not to rename all the files to .aspx back when we originally converted the site. This was very easy to do by simply adding the buildProvider and httpHandler to the web.config.
<buildProviders>
<add extension=".html" type="System.Web.Compilation.PageBuildProvider"/>
</buildProviders>
<httpHandlers>
<add path="*.html" verb="*" type="System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory"/>
</httpHandlers>
Now I am upgrading the site to use Asp.net WebPages with Razor cshtml files. I can rename all the files if necessary, and use url rewriting to make the urls stay the same, however it would be much easier if I could just configure the web.config to tell it to parse .html files as if they were .cshtml. I have searched around quite a bit, and could not find anything equivalent to the PageHandlerFactory for razor pages. It appears as though it is just an internal mechanism in the .net 4.0 ISAPI handler.
The site is currently running on Windows 2003 server and IIS 6. We will be upgrading to 2008/IIS 7.5 in the near future, but I'd prefer not to wait for that. Is there any way to get the .html files to be parsed by razor as if they were .cshtml files?

I am not sure if I have found the right forum for this one.
the problem is:
I have a .licx file in my rootfolder.
I am getting the error:
Error 53 Unable to resolve type ' <add type="TabStrip" version="7.0" />' C:inetpubwwwrootCrop_ApplicationCrop_Applicationeo_web.licx 7 Crop_Application
,which I get for all the types that are in the xml file(i just gave one of them).
A friend told me that I have to add the type .licx in the MIME type in the IIS .
The problem is that I find the MIME type, I add the extension type .licx but I do not know the MIME type for .licx

I get the error message The system cannot find the path specified for a .html file that doesn't exist on the server.
1. Is it possible to set up an error page for .html pages that doens't exist without having access to IIS.
2. If you need to do it in IIS, can you do this for .html files, and then set up custom error pages for .aspx files in the web.config so that these rules co-exist.

I am a little confused when it comes to change the html of a .aspx page and uploading that to the server. Does the website have to be re-published each time a change is made to the .aspx page? I have the box checked that says "Allow this pre-compiled site to be updateable" but when I upload it, it works fine, then I change some html in the .aspx page, save it, then copy that file directly from the source folder over without going through the publish options again. However this time I get errors. Now if I copy over both the .aspx and .aspx.vb files it seems to work. So I suppose I am confused on how this whole publishing thing works and what files I have to copy over. Normally I uncheck all boxes and I don't have to copy over the .aspx.vb pages.

I've a aspx page that convert a word document to a aspx page.
At my devemopment PC anything works fine but at Windows Server 2008 I'd a lot of trouble, starting with the error:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID
{000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error:
80070005
(Like this thread http://forums.asp.net/p/1423138/3163090.aspx#3163090?Interop+problem!)
But this solution doesn't work for me, the error was the same.So I found an other thread somewhere in the net that suggest to use <identity impersonate="true" userName="user" password="userpw"/> to solve this problem.
This works paticaly, I get no more access error and can create a new instance of the word application.But now I get an error in this line:
objApp.Documents.Open(ref wName,ref missing, ref readOnly, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing,ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing,ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing);
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Document oDoc = objApp.ActiveDocument;
Exception: Command not available as no document is loaded
[Code].... why I can now create an instance but not open the document ...
