Global.asax
void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Exception err = Server.GetLastError();
Session["error"] = err.InnerException.Message;
}
web.config
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="CustomerPage.aspx"></customErrors>
CustomerPage.aspx.cs
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Session["error"] != null)
{
Response.Write(Session["error"].ToString());
}
It does not work. How to call a procedure?

I want to protect one file in a subdirectory with Global.asax. (I know that this isn't the conventional way of going about this) but it works on my computer and not on the server.I have a global.asax file in my root dir and Application_BeginRequest checks if the user is requesting a particular file. If they are logged in, it allows access. If they are not logged in they are redirected to the default page.My problem is this: My code works on my personal computer but does not work on the server. Do I have to configure a setting in the web.config or adjust something on the server? Code:
Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim fullOrigionalpath As String = Request.Url.ToString.ToLower
'PROTECTED FILE
If fullOrigionalpath.Contains("/uploads/groups.xls") Then
If HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated = False Then Response.Redirect("~/login.aspx")
End If
End Sub

I've put together some code that processes XML files as they're uploaded to the server using the FileSystemWatcher for one of my clients. The XML is uploaded every hour, and the FSW watches a set directory for new files. All is well and works fine in my development environment but I'm using my clients hosting provider (www.webhostforasp.net) and when uploading a new XML file it appears that nothing is happening? It is possible that the hosting provider doesn't allow watchers or calls from the Global.asax?
What would be the best way to find out what's going on there, considering that without running the site in debug mode, I've got no way of knowing what's going on with the Global.asax or the FSW?

I just testing the url routing. I plan to route url like that site.com/cat/{name}And I deal with it on cat.aspx
The problem is that I get 404(by firebug). The problem is that it doesnt even get to my asp.net error handler.
As it seems it stuck on IIS or doesnt even get to the IIS.
I'm on shared server so I dont have access to the IIS, so I cant get logs or configure things..

I am trying to use schedule task on the server from the web application hosted in IIS. I have written the code to create Task and passing the valid username/password under which this task needs to run on server. But I get an error: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access. The same code works well with console and windows service and able to create task. I understand that this is security issue. My sample app is attached at: [URL]

I tried to develop the asp.net 3.5 by using the windows authetication and it seems to work fine. I had tried this code on my machine (local iis6):
Response.Write(User.Identity.Name.toString());
It returned correctly "my windows login usernameDomainname" however, I tried to deploy it on the windows server 2008, it returned "computer name/Administrator" Then, I tried to access this page from my computer which was redirected to 401 error. Moreover, I looked for the system property which showed that this server and my machine are on the same domain group.

I have a website that is using the ASP.Net report viewer web control which links to our Reporting Server.
We've also built a new WebServer using Server 2008 64bit. I've had some trouble getting this to work in general, but have figured it all out except for this last problem.
When I publish this website to our old WebServer that uses Server 2003 32bit, I have zero problems, the reports pull up as expected. But when I publish to the new webserver, the site works perfectly up until I try to load the Report Viewer page. I don't get any runtime errors, the only thing I get is the picture below. When I open up the IE errors, it basically says that it can't find any of the pictures, and everything is set to a null instance of the object.
I've installed BIDS 2008, the report viewer control and sp1 for it, and have asp.net 3.5, and all of the asp.net development features enabled.

The Security is working fine when testing on a local machine, but when it gets published to the server, it seems that It can't get any active directory information at all.
For example, on the local computer <asp:LoginName ID="LoginName1" FormatString="(Welcome {0})" CssClass="loginname" runat="server" /> returns "Welcome DOMAINusername" but when it's published, it doesn't return anything at all.
Using code i've added users to the correct roles and checked they are really in the roles, but security when published won't recognise the current user's name, so it all fails.

I am trying to write an asp.net webpage which contains an applet. Everything works fine when I run this in a development folder, but when I move it to the IIS web server public folder it doesn't work anymore. I don't get any error message. The browser doesn't repaint the applet area Here is the source code:
//web page
<script src="http://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"></script>
<script>
var attributes = { code:'ImageApplet.class', archive:'ImageApplet.jar', width:864, height:1000} ;
var parameters = {jnlp_href: 'image-applet.jnlp'} ;
deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, '1.4');
</script>
//applet
public void init() {
buildUI();
}
public void buildUI() {
JButton jumbleButton = new JButton("Jumble");
jumbleButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
};
});
add("South", jumbleButton); }

I just created an application in vwd2010. The software project defaulted to however vwd2010 ships. It tested fine on my system. I deployed it and it seems to be crashing because it says Codebehind instead of codefile. Why would Microsoft distribute vwd2010 so that it automatically creates and writes a codebehind file and automatically writes the header of the file to be "codebehind" but codebehind doesn't actually work in production. This is now a lot of work to fix and I don't even know if there is simply something I need to do on the server so that it will activate on "codebehind" instead of "codefile". I'm running asp.net 4 on the server.

Does anyone know of any requirements to get the Ajax Control Toolkit (Calendar Extension in particular) working in this OS? I have it working on my local macjine (VS 2010 Development Server) but it doesn't work when published to my Virtual Server running Windows Server 2008 R2. No errors are reported, just nothing happens when I give focus to the Calendar textbox (no Calendar appears).Anyone know of any configutrations that need to be made in Windows Server 2008 R2?Is there a 32-bit/64-bit issue with the Toolkit?

I am a new to WCF. I have written ajax to use a web service before, but on this project I am trying to use ajax to WCF.After I build the project and wcf using ajax, I receive the return successfully. But, 10 or more minutes later I don't get a return, the ajax calls the error function, and the fiddler returns nothing.
If I rebuild the project without any source modifying, I receive the return successfully again.

If you have a global navigation tree, Countries --> States --> Cities for example, how do you correctly implement this in MVC2? In my example, the view model for States does not contain Countries and the tree would break as it needs the Countries list to build the tree. It sounds like this should be easy, but it doesn't sound right to include the entire model for a single State or City view.

I recently started using IConfigurationSectionHandler as a custom configuration section for my BL DLL. I'm using it inside web.config files to pass settings values to the BL DLL.
While it reads the local web.config perfectly, the problem is reading a global configuration file (root web.config) that consists of shared settings.
How can I manage to do that using IConfigurationSectionHandler?

I have a website with a global.asax file with some debug code in Application_Start, which inserts some debug information in a table in the db:
void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Log.LogToDb("App Starts");
}
I have 2 versions of the same website, one compiled and the other one just plain code.The plain code website correctly inserts these records in the db, but the compiled one is not doing it.
I have a feeling the Global.asax file is being ignored by the compiled website. I can see the dll for it in the in folder: App_global.asax.compiled and App_global.asax.dll although I can't see a Global.asax file in the root folder (do I need one?)
I must say the website is compiled with MSBuild and then obfuscated using Dotfuscator.

the best place to store Subroutines and Functions for global access for a beginning programmer:
-As a .dll file (class library) in the bin folder?
-As seperate classes under the App_code directory?
-or just all together in the code behind on a blank page?

i have written in the "Application_BeginRequest" Method that the header of every HTTP Request will be analyzed.
It only works when i visit the myip/default.aspx site. But when i want to visit any other site there will be no entry in the database or in the listbox (the listbox is only for me to see what happens)It runs on an IIS 5.1.
I also changed in the IIS Settings the ASP.NET from 2.0 to 4.0. Do i need to configure the IIS 5.1 to use the global.asax.cs on every url?
I thought the global.asax.cs runs on every site on the webserver.

I have recently published my website, it worked fine but the only issue is that the error handling code in the global.asax never works. It works when I tested the website on my localhost but not when it is deployed onto my hosting provider.
I tried moving my global.asax file onto my root directory (not the bin) on the hosting folder, then my whole website wouldn't even start. I get the error message "System.Web.HttpException: This server variable cannot be modified during request execution."
But if I remove the global.asax, then it is running fine again.
Note: I didn't use the publish function in Visual Studio to publish my website, I sent the files over one by one via cPanel. Note: I googled about this, a lot of them are saying about global.asax being precompiled into a dll, but I can't find that dll in my local computer.
