Configuration :: Silverlight Works On Localhost But Not On LocalIP

Jun 9, 2010

I am using IIS5.1 and my silverlight application works perfectly when I access it by typing localhost on my browser but for some reason when I type in the IP address of the system all I see is the layout of the website but no data from the database is transferred to the datagrid. The silverlight application is simple and uses linq to sql to retrieve data from the database (through WCF service) and displays it using silverlight datagrid.

Do not know what is gong on when I am the only user, no network, just me myself and I.VS2010 tells me that I need to close VS and re-open as the Administrator to publish to the local machine... ? How do I do that when there is only 1 user (me) on this machine.

Configuration :: File Not Found Error When Running Under LocalHost?

Oct 30, 2010

I have a fairly big ASP.NET 3.5 website that refuses to open any page via the 'View in Browser' option of VS2010, i.e. the LocalHost facility does not work. All I get is a 'File Not Found' error.

Two other ASP.NET 4.0 sites (which are much simpler and do not have any SQL Server connections) can be viewed without any problem via the LocalHost service.

Configuration :: Sending Email Not Working - Web.config To Send Through Localhost?

Oct 14, 2010

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to test email sending on my localhost machine that I'm using to develop the application on. Here is my function to send the email:

[Code]....

Here is the excerpt from my web.config file:

[Code]....

Here is the error I get when trying to test the code out:

An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions 127.0.0.1:25

What could be causing this? Am I doing something wrong in my web.config file??? I know this isn't possible with Vista, but I'm running Windows 7 now.

Configuration :: Web Deployment Task Failed - Site 'localhost' Does Not Exist?

Jun 23, 2010

I have a web service that I have successfully published locally several times through VS2008. When I attempt to publish this service through VS2010, a dialog window is displayed where you must enter a 'Service URL' and 'Site/Application.' The service URL is not a problem, but what do I enter as a 'Site/Application?'

My entries are as follows:

Service URL: http://localhost/gfIDSProxyAccess/Service1.asmx
Site/Application: localhost/gfIDSProxyAccess

I also tried localhost, gfIDSProxyAccess, www.gfcpa.com, gfcpa.com, www.gfcpa.com/index.html and localhost/gfIDSProxyAccess/Service1.asmx, with and with and without the http://.

Configuration :: View .aspx Pages Directly On The Server (localhost)?

Apr 22, 2010

I have hosted my project in the remote server. i pasted all the dlls & all the necessary files into inetpub->wwwroot ->httpdocs->(pasted all files). In the server we have .net framework 3.5 and IIS 6.0

Now I just want to check whether my files are running locally on the server. So I did the following. Just opened the IIS, made the httpdocs folder as a virtual directory. And then I clicked the httpdocs. It displayed all the files it has in the right side pane. Then I right clicked the default.aspx and then I clicked browse. Now the browser opened with the URL http://localhost/httpdocs/default.aspx. But I could not able to see the aspx page.It just shows "The page is not found"

But when I tried the same steps for opening a .html page it works fine (http://localhost/httpdocs/test.html) I can able to view the html pages.

Whether I need to configure anything on the IIS.... What should I do to view the .aspx files

Configuration :: Localhost Doesn't Recognize Images - Css But Shows Html Content

Dec 28, 2010

on a server, I am trying to deploy a website. Originally, the page styles did not work and the some of the .gif and .jpg images didnt show up. I fixed the css problem by adding a http handler mapping through IIS. I tried the same thing to get the images to work but that didn't fix the problem. If the website was fully deployed im pretty sure the images would work so I dont want to change their paths (same with css). The handler mapping i added for css was for "*.css" of type system.web.staticfilehandler. This is the same type i tried for .jpg and .gif. I don't know specifically the purpose of system.web.staticfilehandler because msdn info is very short.

MVC :: Runtime Sitemap Construction For Each Index() ActionMethod - Custom Attribute?

Jun 21, 2010

Recently, I wrote code that dynamically builds a menu / navbar for my site that uses Reflection upon the [Authorize(Roles="")] attribute to determine what Controllers and ActionMethods should be shown to the user. And it came out really well. See this post for the details on how I did it: [URL]

The next step that I've been thinking about is when the user clicks on the "Controller" listing, it takes the user to the Index page. (eg. [URL] ) Which is perfectly fine, but I was thinking that it would be nice to also have this Index page for each controller dynamically constructed based on the user's roles / permissions. For example, if the Index page from XYZ-Controller might look like:

XYZ-Controller Index
SomeMethod1 -- This method tweaks your widgets
SomeMethod2 -- This method unwinds your widgets, re-orders thems, and then re-winds them, but only on Tuesdays.
SomeMethod3 -- This method will delete some or all of your widgets and then you'll be sad.

I currently use Reflection to iterate thru all my Controllers and all the ActionMethods in each controller. I've been pondering the best way to store the Description of each ActionMethod. (Like, "This method tweaks your widgets.") Do I make my own Attribute called, say, Description which I would use to decorate ActionMethods with. For example it might look like this: [Description("This method tweaks your widgets")]

Configuration :: LocalHost Or 127.bla.blah.blah Works, But Not Machine Name Or IP?

I'm trying to deploy a new application and I've got it configured in IIS. When I open a browser to localhost or to 127.0.0.1 the entire site behaves normally. But if I point the browser to the machine name or ip address, I get 'An application error occurred on the server'. This happens even when I point at the root which should be serving iisstart.htm.

C# - Get The Domain Name Not The Localhost?

Dec 1, 2010

I'm trying to write a method which will send an email to client which has a download link that the user can click on to download directly.

Actually I'm emulating it as a continuously running process in Global which keep sending a file to a ftp server, if there is an error with the sending, a link will be sent to admin so that he can download the file directly.

My question is how can I get the external link, for example I would like to have http://www.abc.com/temp/file.txt. I want a generic solution so that whatever the domain I change my server too, the code still work?
