Is there any way possible when my site is hosted to some how attach the process so I can debug the errors. Obviously as they are different environments what works in dev doesn't always work in.

I've got a really good idea for a service I'd like to create for the web, but since I'm new to ASP.NET I'd like to get everything up and running before I go and buy hosting etc.
What I'm curious about is the database side of things.
I don't quite understand how I can create a datebase on my computer for the sake of testing and practicing (Presumably through mssql server) and then just transfer it to a hosting account when I'm ready.
I guess the main part I don't understand is how can I connect to a database on my computer via my application and then change the connection so that it points to the web version when I'm ready.
I know that when you create the database and include it in your project it's not technically inside your project (Right?), but it just seems that the application is very rigid once you've specified the connection.

I've an ASP.NET application hosted inside a local area network. The application host machine has access to the internet while the local area network clients do not.
There is one requirement where I've to show a web page with rich content (images) in an IFrame from internet (public network) address.
However since internet access is not available on the client, this somehow has to be done from server and then needs to be served to client.
How can this be done?

<link href="../../Content/Site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
The above code shows an external css inclusion tag declared in Site.Master template.
My question: why did the Asp.net MVC team choose that way rather than using "~/Content/Site.css" ?

I am neither a server administrator nor very knowledgable about how to configure IIS, so I have the following problem:
My client hosts their public website from their own internal server running Server 2003 with IIS 6. The current website is a .NET 1.1 application configured as a website in IIS. Within this site a separate virtual directory configured as an application runs a separate .NET 1.1 app that serves as their online webstore.
I've been tasked with upgrading the website (not the webstore) to .NET 4 and getting it installed and working on their server. My initial plan was to simply change the existing websites home directory to the new home directory from the IIS admin console and be done, but then I read that this would break the application directory that hosts their online store because .NET 1.1 applications cannot be nested within .NET 4 applications. Can anyone confirm this?

This will be my first time trying to upload a ASP.NET site. I would like to upload my site by simply using ftp and transferring the contents of the project directory so that the site will be easy for me to make future updates. Where can I find directions for uploading a ASP.NET site via ftp? I am assuming that I will need to edit the connection string in the web.config file. However, my hosting company told me to just make a full backup of of the database into .BAK file format and upload it via FTP to your the "private" folder. Anyone have any experience with something like this and can tell me how this would affect the connection string? Can I back up the database to a .BAK file from within Visual Studio 2008 or do I have to use Management Studio? I am using Visual Studio 2008 with ASP.NET 3.5, C#, and SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

I have a intranet site with Windows Authentication. I have 'Administrator' pages in an 'Administrator' folder that will only show for those in the admin group (windows security group) These pages work
I have a folder with sub folders containing reports. These permissions are broken down for each type of report. They have similar role priveleges. When I test the application, I can navigate to the pages. When I deploy the site live on the intranet the links don't return a page. Error missing link 404. Do I need to set something in IIS?

I will shortly be going live with a new .net web application. It will be deployed to a load balanced environment over 5 servers.Before go live there is a holding site on all the 5 servers to which the domain is currently pointing ->Prior to go live, I would like to deploy the new site to 5 servers and for the holding site to remain and for it to be what the public sees. And when the time comes, I can put the new site live with a flick of a switch. I also want the new site to be on the servers so that I can test it prior to go live.I am running in IIS7. This is common practice I presume so what is the easiest way doing that above and achieve installing the new site on the servers will not affecting the holding site. The new site be accessible to me but the holding site be viewed by the general public.

I am using the following code to post data from a asp.net 2.0 site to an asp.net 2.0 web service that post the data to a server:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "SynchroniseCustomers.asmx/synchroniseCustomers",
data: JSON.stringify(customerObj),
[Code]....
Thing is, if I run this locally and drop my internet connection the web service returns a 500 error (like I want it to do) and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is not called. However, on the live site if I drop my connection the web service does not return an error and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is called even if I don't have a connection to the internet (customer gets deleted from local database without being posted to the web server).

I want to include Microsoft AntiXss V1.5 library on my live site running in a medium trust setting.However, I got an error something like:Required permissions cannot be acquired.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Required permissions cannot be acquired.I tried this in full trust setting on my development machine and everything works good.Looks like this will run only in full trust configuration.

using vb.net/asp.net 2005
when a user enters a bad email I am doing a check on this and throwing an exception message as follows, this works fine on the test site but for some reason the same code on the live site gives a "internal server error" (http code 500). The code below:
[Code]....
not certain why this is happening, I assume that it's some server or config difference between the test and live sites. has anyone seen this before? For a quick fix i'm registering javascript alert and showing the same text so it works but I would like to figure out why the code above is not working.

This is my third site that I use role management, but the first time this happens. I have two roles: Member and Admin. If Admin user login, Admin node on sitemap shows. It works very well on my local machine in Visual Studio Express 2008 and in Visual Studio Team 2008. But once I deploy files to live site, even admin login, the Admin node doesn't show. I have a Member management page from which I may see member's role, and I can see that user name is in the role Admin. What could be wrong?
I used ASP.Net Configuration manager to create roles, users, and access roles. Here is the code:
in general site.config
<siteMap enabled="true " defaultProvider="XmlSiteMapProvider">
<providers>
<add name="XmlSiteMapProvider" description="Default SiteMap provider." type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider"
siteMapFile="Web.sitemap" securityTrimmingEnabled="true"/>
[Code]....

I have a requirement where I have to transfer a user from Web Site 1 on Server A to web Site 2 on Server B.
On Web Site 1, I have to provide controls to enter user id and password and which have to be validated on Web Site 2 on server B, after validating them I have to redirect the user to Web site 2.
what is best way fo doing it. code examples are greatly appreciated.
Note: On Web Site 2, user login functionality is already existing and it is provided by ASP.Net login control, am not sure how to handle the user login process from two different places.
or is it the best way to move Web Site 2 from Server B to Server A so that, the same login controls will be shown using Iframe on Web Site A.

OK Here is the situation:
I have a web app with a table of statistics on our salesmen's customers, and each row has a sparkline graph showing the general trend of the sales data for the last 12 months. Each page shows a particular salesman's customer list, and some of them can have an enormous number of customers = an enormous number of rows = an enormous number of sparklines (e.g. one in particular has 125 and takes 15 seconds to load).
For this reason, jQuery sparklines could not be used - they completely pinned the CPU of a user accessing a page with a lot of sparklines with IE.
So I moved on to using the Google Chart API, which worked much better, except for two issues: 1) it's on a secure site, and the Google Chart API URL is only served over HTTP (solved by using a small wrapper script to download the graph dynamically and re-serve it from our secure server); and 2) on a page with 125 sparklines, it was still very slow due to the number of requests (even when the 0-9 server prefixes are used to maximize the # of available connections).
So my next step beyond this was to try to make each of the "download/grab/re-serve image" method calls asynchronous - and it worked!
...but only on my dev box running in debug mode.
When I pushed it up to the live site, it was faster, but it left some of the images unloaded, which is of course unacceptable.
So here is what I was hoping some SO hotshot would know:
1) Why are my asynchronous method calls working while debugging, but not working on the live site?
2) Is there any easier way to get a large number of sparklines of some sort to load quickly on a secure server without making me want to tear my hair out?
2a.) Does anyone have any experience using the ASP.NET Chart Library? Is this something I should investigate?
2b.) A co-worker suggested I make my own sparkline routine using a 1x1 CSS background image and varying the height. The problems are a) it is completely un-extensible in case we want to make changes; b) it seems hacky as hell (leaves about a bajillion DIVs per sparkline in the markup); and c) I have no idea if it will be fast enough when there are 100-200 of them on one page - what are your thoughts on the feasibility of the 1x1 sprite approach?

I'm using ASPMaker to create a content site editor. It analises the database and creates automatically the pages(list, edit and add) for all DB tables. But ASPMaker is limited to customize the resources and design.
I need any easy and fast way to create this content editor in ASP.Net C#. Can someone indicate a software or any easy way to use Visual Studio 2008?
