Thing is, if I run this locally and drop my internet connection the web service returns a 500 error (like I want it to do) and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is not called. However, on the live site if I drop my connection the web service does not return an error and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is called even if I don't have a connection to the internet (customer gets deleted from local database without being posted to the web server).
I am using ASP.NET MVC with jquery. I have the following MVC Action that returns a partial page on Success. On Application Error, I am not sure what to send it for correctly handling it at the client side.

when a user enters a bad email I am doing a check on this and throwing an exception message as follows, this works fine on the test site but for some reason the same code on the live site gives a "internal server error" (http code 500). The code below:

not certain why this is happening, I assume that it's some server or config difference between the test and live sites. has anyone seen this before? For a quick fix i'm registering javascript alert and showing the same text so it works but I would like to figure out why the code above is not working.
Now i have faced some strange problem.I have added an arralist into session.And then accept it from another page .Every thing is work fine when locally(visual web developer).But when uploaded most of time error occured "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.".why?pls help me..
I am working at a site not orginally devleoped by me. The problem is that all the pages are working fine and have no problem at my local site. but the site is not showing any content at live site from database. Niether it shows an error for it. How can I find the problem?
Created an solution containing several class libraries (domain, contracts, etc, etc) and an Asp.Net MVC3 project. Created a database in my local sql server (2008) and ran aspnet_regsql.exe to create the relevant membership and authentication tables. (Though I did not create any code yet that uses it, and plan to just implement the standard forms and membership authentication.) However, when I click on the "Asp.Net Configuration" button in VS (2010), it open the Asp.Net Web Site Administration Tool, but with an error that say "An error was encountered. return to the previous page and try again." (of course there's no "previous page). Only reason i want to use this is actually to create two roles, admin and client. Guess my problem is not knowing where this tool get it's connectionstring from. At present, I got the following in my web.config
I have set up a small SQL Server database for users to login and also create accounts. There is a problem with the connection string though. Whenever I use the connection string below in the web.config file I get a server error page and cannot view the website. However when I take out this connection string I am able to view the website albeit the database doesn't work.

If I use jQuery AJAX to call a specific ASP.NET page method how to have that method return a value back to the AJAX method that called it?

My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.

I Have a problem here with Visual Web devoloper 2010 , When I click the "Asp.net Configuration" , the browser doesn't open the Web Site Administration Tool but the icon does appear in the notification area , on right clicking the icon it opens up the Web Site Administration Tool in the browser and displays "An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
On the other hand I don't have any issues using "Asp.net Configuration" with Visual Web Devoloper 2008
I am using ASP.NET MVC for developing a web site. I am using jquery for AJAX functionality. In the action methods, I want to return some error to signal that the input is not correct or that the action could not be performed. In such error cases, I expect the jquery ajax error handler to be called and I can take appropriate action in there. I have not found a way how to do this. I will shortly be going live with a new .net web application. It will be deployed to a load balanced environment over 5 servers.Before go live there is a holding site on all the 5 servers to which the domain is currently pointing ->Prior to go live, I would like to deploy the new site to 5 servers and for the holding site to remain and for it to be what the public sees. And when the time comes, I can put the new site live with a flick of a switch. I also want the new site to be on the servers so that I can test it prior to go live.I am running in IIS7. This is common practice I presume so what is the easiest way doing that above and achieve installing the new site on the servers will not affecting the holding site. The new site be accessible to me but the holding site be viewed by the general public.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.
Somehow I deleted my App_Data folder and had to recreate it... it only had one database in it ... an Access Database. My .aspx pages that use the DB are giving permission errors when they load... I can't find anyplace in my DB or on my VWD Express where I can set the permissions (nor on my hosting service).
I have an application 'A' builded by VS2005 and Framework 2.0.50727 before.And I am fixing an application 'B' builded by VS2003 with Framework 1.0, so I installed 1.0 yesterday.Everything worked fine but today when I was running 'B', it showed "Visual Studio cannot create or open the application because the Web server on this computer is not running. Start the Web serber before proceeding."Even if I reintall 1.0, VS2003 still shows this message.Then I closed VS2003 and open VS2005 to run application 'A' to see if app 'A' works fine.
But after I run app 'A', the IE says cannot display web page.So I checked my Default Web Site in IIS, it says 'The connection to the server was lost. I have a web Method in my C# that is called via Jquery ajax method. The web method should return an object back to the Jquery which will be used to populate. I have tried returning a JsonResult object, the actual object and nothing seems to work! I'm not using MVC (Unfortunately). im working on a MVC 3 webapp where i want to post to a controller function using jQuery ajax. However, every time i post to the server i get a 400 Bad Request response and i can't figure out where this comes from as the site runs fine with the VS2010 devserver.

I have an Ajax function called from JQuery that goes to a webservice to return a value. I need a SIMPLE example on how I can do this. I've been going nuts with serializing and every other aspect of this topic. I need to return either an ArrayList with ONE string field or a DataTable of some kind. Either way, I'm populating it into a DropDownList. I'm willing to consider alternatives to this idea. (Background info - I get a value from a textbox and I need to run it through a DB to get an associated value or set of values). I'm being really general so that someone can show a simple example.
