Oct 16, 2010
I installed windows 7 recently & I am new to ASP.NET. I installed visual studio 2008 for developing ASP.NET application. I created my web application on visual web developer 2008 & when I run my aplication, ASP.NET development server runs & my defualt browser opens automatically but it cannot show my web page. Connection error ocurrs. But when I open this web page with visual studio's internal browser, it works fine for me. So tell me whats the problem with my default browser(IE8, Flock2.6), Any configuration setting or what, I don't know exactly.

I get this error "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) "
The connection string that I used in my web.config file is
[Code]....
I am not sure what am I doing wrong, but I followed this article below step by step and still I am getting the same error
http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2009/05/21/sql-server-fix-error-provider-named-pipes-provider-error-40-could-not-open-a-connection-to-sql-server-microsoft-sql-server-error/
My instance name is MSSQLSERVER and the server that I am using is on my local machine and it has my computer name in it.

It is about the efficiency, which chrome being light weight, fine for general web browsingI am thinking to use it as default browser when working on Web Applications. There are some limitation though which I know like, Could not use chrome when worked over an Rss Feed generator module, as chrome was not supporting the generated output.Which browser will make it a good combination with VS 2008, C#, Asp.Net dev Server for developing Asp.Net Web Applications.

I created the simplest MVC project with Visual Studio 10, and it works fine on the VS Development Server, but won't run using IIS on the same computer under IIS (Windows Server 2008 R2 with ASP.NET 4.0.30319).
My steps were:
File / New / Project ...Visual C# / Web / ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Application... and kept the default name: MvcApplication1
Clicked Debug to build and run ... the default page appears fine at http://localhost:49175 ...
Then I closed that browser and clicked on MvcApplication1 / Properties / Web and selected "Use Local IIS Web server"Clicked "Create" to create the virtual directory at http://localhost/MvcApplication1
Clicked Debug again... and got HTTP Error 403.14 (Web Server configured to not list directory)
It seems that IIS cannot find a Default document. If I add a document to the virtual directory (C:inetpubwwwrootMvcApplication1) with one of the default doc names, that document will display OK.
Why can ASP.NET find the default document (Views/Home/Index.aspx) when running from the VS Development Server, but not when running from IIS??
I have tried running "aspnet_regiis -i", but still find that C:inetpubwwwrootaspnet_clientsystem_web4_0_30319 is an empty folder. Should there be something here?I have tried giving all sorts of permissions to the virtual directory folder (C:inetpubwwwrootMvcApplication1) but without any success.

I defined a default error page in the ASP.Net Web Site Administration tool. The page exists in root directory. I also confirmed that it pointed to my frmErrorPage.aspx by looking in my Web.config file
Code:
<system.web>
<customErrors defaultRedirect="~/frmErrorPage.aspx" />
Running my site locally from within visual studio, I tried to surf to a non existent page. This threw an error as it is suppose to, but did not pull up my custom error page. I get
Code:
Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. ...

I have VS 2010 professional. I am trying to open "ASP.Net Configuration" through Project -> ASP.Net Configuration.
It pops up the Notification about the ASP.Net Development Server localhost but doesn't open ASP.Net Configuration in the default browser.I clicked on the Root Url (by double clicking on the 'development server' at the right bottom from Notification Manager).
It throws following error
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Clicking on "How do i use this tool".It opened page with error.
Tool Has Timed Out

I've created a small website with a simple sqlite database using vwd 2010 .net 4. In dev and test envionments everything works fine, however when i promote to my hosting provider i receive the following error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:
<add
name="ApplicationServices"
connectionString="data [code].....
For info the environments are set up as follows:
- Dev environment is vwd express 2010 with sqlite mdf attached
- Test environment is windows 7 server, iis 7 with appdomain identity set to network service

This is the connection string that gets generated with the "New ASP.Net Website" template in vs 2010
<connectionStrings>
<add name="ApplicationServices"
connectionString="data source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I have a named instance of sql 2008 developer edition installed. I have changed the Server name but the query string will still not work. I want to be able to use the default db "aspnetdb.mdf". I use Windows authentication to connect. How can i change the connection string to get this to work?

I have a .Net 2 solution with some asp classic pages.I get a specified cast is not valid error when I access the page on my local. Below is the vb function where I get the Error:
Public Function Retrieve(ByVal vntSeqId As String, ByRef vntPart As String, ByRef vntPartKey As String, ByRef vntEntDate As String _
, ByRef vntStatus As String, ByRef vntOrigGblId As String, ByRef vntOrigNetId As String, ByRef vntOrigName As String, ByRef vntOrigPhone As String _ [code]...
At first, I thought the problem is with the source code and we were thinking the source code we have is different with the ones deployed on test and prod servers. But when I tried to upload it on the test server, I don't get the specified cast is not valid error.

I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.

I am trying to create a simple login page in ASP.NET C# but am getting some error.
I googled about the error, and tried all the solutions but to no avail.What am I doing wrong? The error is:
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
I think it's something to do with my connection string which is as follows:
<add name="cn"
connectionString="server=HCL;DataBase=GS;Integrated Security=True" />
"HCL" is another machine connected to my PC through the LAN and this database, "GS", resides on it. Is the problem with the value I am giving in "Server" attribute of the above code? If not what else may I be doing wrong?

I wrote a web service to send emails and some win apps supossed to call the service for sending emails. When I test the service via Visual studio development server everything is ok and it sends emails. But with IIS the smtpclient.send throw an exception whit this message : No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it [mailserver ip:port] The endpoint for VS development server is [URL] and for iis [URL] The smtp server is remote (gmail) and iis version is 6. I set the current local user as iis anonymous user. I am in LAN and my client firewall is off. There is an ISA server for the internet but I'm using a dialup connection for the internet. So why visual studio can send emails but iis can't?

I have an ASP.NET site running on the Visual Studio Development Server. I also have a silverlight project in my solution. I get the error:
Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight Application
Code: 2104
Category: InitializeError
Message: Could not download the Silverlight application. Check web server settings
After some research, it seems I need to do the equivalent of setting the MIME type in HTTP Headers in IIS for VSDS. Is this right?
If so, how do I do this? If not how do I get my silverlight to run in my ASP.NET solution using Visual Studio Development Server?

I just started getting the error message "Unable to Connect to the ASP.net Development Server" when debugging a website with VWD 2008 (everything was fine in the past). My system is Windows Vista with Windows Live OneCare firewall. I have reviewed other postings related to this problem, and they indicate firewall setting problems - settings not allowing VWD internet access. However, my settings on the "Windows Live OneCare Firewall Advanced Settings" tab specifically allow VWD.

Not sure why it works if i connect to SQL 2005 on another server, but now that i have SQL Express on the same server as the pages, im getting the following error: I have attached my connection string within my web.config and also how its being called within the code behind. Now this page was written by another programmer some time back.. so not sure if the method he used to do this is the best or only way. But i have connected to other SQL database with other applications with alot less code.
