Create Route That Will Move The Query String To Part Of The URL

Jan 29, 2011

I'd like to change my routes so that instead of having:

/Users/Edit?UserID=1

I can do

/Users/Edit/1

How can I create a custom route to do that?

Also, can someone direct me to a good tutorial on routes? I don't wanna create a post every time I have a simple problem with routes.

Display Query String Value On Page - Misses Some Part?

Jun 3, 2010

I am trying to retrive the query string value and display it on the aspx page. The query string is passed from a gridview. Everything works fine except i noticed that when there is an '&' in the query string then the label on the page will display only uptil the '&' (i.e. excluding the '&'). Just so to let you know. I retrive the value of the querystring into a string variable and then assign it to the variable. I have noticed this only for '&' character but maybe there are more characters with sinmilar bahaviour that I am not aware of.if anyone has a workaround on displaying all the content from the querystring then do share.

C# - How To Route "pretty" Dynamic URL (without Query String)

Dec 20, 2010

Well, i know the title isn't very specific, but i couldn't find a better succint description of what i'm looking for.i want to have a default.aspx so that when a user types:

http://www.mydomain.com/randomstring

i can use the randomstring to query a table on page load. More specific:

. I will be importing batches of users to my database through a csv file.

. in that process, a random string will be generated

. i will send that url to each user by email

. when the user clicks through that link, i want my aspx(c#) to interpret that string, query a table that gives me a second url, this one with querystring, and Redirects the user to that second address

ADO.NET :: Use DataSet As Part Of Regular Query?

Feb 25, 2011

I am thinking about using a DataSet to perform some operations but I wonder if it can be used as a regular table in a query. For example, I have the following code which updates a table named "listas_pre_titulos". Is it possible to use a DataSet instead? What I need is to build a "temporary" table on the fly and use it in a regular query and I do not know if a DataSet is an option or maybe I would need to CREATE such a temporary table.

Rewriting This Linq Query To Move It From Code-behind To DAL As Reusable Object?

Apr 4, 2011

I'm working to move my simple asp.net website to a three layer architecture. Currently I have Linq queries like the one below in my code-behind files. Basically this code snippet retrieves a collection of customer data from the database and then binds it to a grid control.

I'm wondering if someone can guide me on how to rewrite this in order to move it to my newly-created data access layer. I'm thinking I will turn it into a class (e.g. GetUserBoxesByStatus()) that can be reused throughout the site.

var boxes = from p in sbm.Packages
where p.UserID == CurrentUserId && p.StatusID > 1 && p.StatusID < 3
select new { p.PackageTag, p.PackageName, p.DateReceived, p.DateShipped }; [code]....

Some of the options that I've investigated but have not had success implementing are the following:

DataTable --- returning a DataTable seems like the best solution but it also appears to require a lot of potentially unecessarry code to define a table (isn't the data source already mapped in my Linq 2 Entities dbml?)

IEneuerable --- I think I could pass an IEnumerable list between the layers but after reading many tutorials about Linq I'm still a little lost DTO --- Conceptually I think I understand what a DTO is but I am not clear on how to begin implementing this approach POCO --- Again, the concept seems logical enough but I don't know how to put this into practice

how they would tackle this using one of the above or some other solution.

Call Oracle Function As Part Of Parametrized Query?

Nov 19, 2010

I have a number of automatically generated data access classes to handle things like inserts & updates. These look like:

cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text
cmd.CommandText = "UPDATE myTable set f1 = :f1, f2 = :f2, f3 = :f3 where id = :id"
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":f1", _f1)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":f2", _f2)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":f3", _f3)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

If I were to re-write the sql to do what I want, it would look something like

cmd.CommandText = "UPDATE myTable set f1 = pkg.getMyValue, f2 = :f2, f3 = :f3 where id = :id"

Is there any way to do this by setting _f1 to a "special" value, without changing the update SQL or the way the parameters are set? Only in certain cases will I need to set the value of f1 - most of the time, it will be null.

Using .net 2.0, and system.data.oracleclient against oracle 11.

C# - Replace Part Of Text In A Dynamic String

Oct 27, 2010

Let's take this string has an example:

D:/firstdir/Another One/and 2/bla bla bla/media/reports/Darth_Vader_Report.pdf

I want to cut the first part of the path:

D:/firstdir/Another One/and 2/bla bla bla

And replace it with **../**, and keep the second part of the path (media/reports/Darth_Vader_Report.pdf)

If I knew the length or size of it, I could use the Replace or Substring. But since the first part of the string is dynamic, how can I do this?

Update

After StriplingWarrior question, I realized that I could have explained better.

The objective is to replace everything behind /media. The "media" directory is static, and will always be the decisive part of the path.

MVC :: Dynamically Create The Route Based On The Users Selection?

Aug 18, 2010

I need to create a web page where the user can select from a variety of categories via a dropdown list, then enter a search term into a textbox to provide a search term. The category is going to dictate which controller to use, and the search term will be a query parameter for the List action of each controller.

What I can't figure out is how to dynamically create the route based on the users selection. How do I get the values selected from the dropdownlist and textbox into Url.RouteUrl?
