Custom Server Controls :: Adding Inline Code Model User Control To Visual Studio ToolBox?
Mar 2, 2010
I have developed a User Control in inline code model and convert this into dll and try to add it into Visual Studio ToolBox. It shows error "There is no component found in the object.". It is showing actually because i have not added ToolBoxData attribute just before the class declaration, because there is no class declaration in the inline code model. I don't know where i have to add ToolBoxData attribute.

I have project A, which is a class library project. I compile it and it creates a dll. In my project B which is a web application project, I add a reference to the A.dll, and I click on toolbox and select choose item, navigate to dll, and click on it. The control does not show up on my toolbox. When I right click my toolbox and select "show all", the control is there, but it's grayed out. I have been searching for an answer to this for a couple of days now, nothing changes.

I have a simple HttpHandler that generates a dynamic image based on query string parameters and a custom web control that renders an image tag pointing to the handler as its 'src' attribute. All works fine when run in the web server, but at design timethe control displays as the "missing image" icon (red x in a box). The handler is registered in the web.config with a ".ashx" extension. The RenderContents method in the control looks like this:
output.AddAttribute("src", ResolveUrl(string.Format("~/Sparklines.SparkHandler.ashx?stype=pm&w={0}&h={1}&sv={2}&ev={3}&cv={4}&sc={5}&ec={6}&mc={7}&gs={8}",
Width.IsEmpty ? 100 : Width.Value,
Height.IsEmpty ? 15 : Height.Value,
caleStart, ScaleEnd, CurrentValue,
ColorUtils.ColorString(StartColor, true),

The built in Asp.Net Controls (label, Textbox, etc.) all have a CssClass property that can be set, what do I need to do to implement that for a Web User Control?
I know how to add a property and pass thru the get & set to the corresponding Asp.Net control (example if I have a label I know how to create a LabelCssClass property that provides a get & set, but the control itself how do I set a CssClass or ClassName property.

I want to create a map control which will be a server side control.I want to have it as a tool in the toolbox. The above control will contain providers that will fetch maps from the following sources:
1) WMS
2) Oracle Spatial DB
3) Google
4) MS Virtual earth.
How to create the providers for the different map sources? Then I hav to create different screens which will take the parameters and send them to the map preoviders. The map providers will send the generated map to a map control (could be a active X control) or something else. The map control should also be capable of performing standard functions like pan,zoom etc. Pls give some idea as well as source code on how to start with it.

When writing inline code in an .aspx file and some lines down closing a statement with <% } %>, Visual Studio tries to be nice but messes it up by rewriting it all. Is there any way of turning this rewriting off, but only for inline code?

If the answer to this question exists somewhere, I'm no good at searching for it. This is sort of a simple question, the response being two parts: (1) is it possible? (2) if so, how?
I've created a web user control for my site's footer. In my web.config I have it registered like this:
[Code]....
Then, within the pages on my site, I simply insert it like this:
[Code]....
But obviously, that didn't work. I get this error: The type or namespace name 'FooterControl' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
So I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I can put all of my code in the ASPX file and make my life easier, but I would kind of prefer not to.

I have a simple user control (myControl.ascx) , in the myControl.ascx.cs file, I defined:
public string sUserName
{
get
{
return _sUserName;
}
set
{
_sUserName = value;
populateData();
}
}
In one of my aspx page, I use this control:
[Code]....
myNameSapce.Config.sType is a public value from a class, I just can't get that value for above inline code, is it possible to do that? Otherwise, I need go to the .cs file to do this: myControl1.sUserType = myNameSapce.Config.sType; But still hope I can do the inline code.

My toolbox has begun filling up with duplicates of the controls. A set of controls under a standard tab may be repeated as many as two dozen times. This is driving me crazy. I tried reseting the toolbox (which required me to reinstall the two cusom tabs I had), but that only reduced the number of duplicates--it didn't entirely eliminate them. Also, I keep getting a strange, orphan tab created with the label "#13119" . It has no controls, and I can't delete it, and it didn't go away when I reset the toolbox. It almost seems like it's adding another set of controls every time I open Visual Studio, or perhaps every time I reopen my project.

<form id="form1" runat="server" method="post" action="Default.aspx?id=<%= ID %>" >
Ok, it is very ugly and I wouldn't have ever tried it myself. It came up in some code that was written years ago but had been working up until this weekend after a bunch of updates were installed on a client's web server where the code is hosted.
The actual result of this is the following html:
<form name="form1" method="post" action="Default.aspx?id=<%= ID %>" id="form1">
The url ends up like this:
http://localhost:6735/Default.aspx?id=<%= ID %>
Which as you can see, demonstrates that the "<" symbol is being encoded before ASP.NET actually processes the page. It seems strange to me as I thought that even though it is not pretty by any means, it should work. I'm confused.
To make matters worse, the client insists that it is a bug in IE since it appears to work in Firefox. In fact, it is broken in Firefox as well, except for some reason Firefox treats it as a 0.
Any ideas on why this happens and how to fix it easily? Everything I try to render within the server control ends up getting escaped.
Edit
Ok, I found a "fix"
<form id="form1" runat="server" method="post" action='<%# String.Format("Default.aspx?id={0}", 5) %>' >
But that requires me to call DataBind which is adding more of a hack to the original hack. Guess if nobody thinks of anything else I'll have to go with that.

Recently i am working in VS2008 installed in windows xp SP2. In the toolbox i added a new tab and added some third party controls in the toolbox, by using "Choose Item" dialog.. I also added Ajax ToolKit to the tool box. It worked fine and i could drag n drop controls.
But then if i restart VS2008, all the tabs i created and controls in it goes off and disappears ncluding Ajax Toolkit. Each time i restart it, I have to have add those controls newly?
Is this a Bug?? or Is there any solution for this?

I have a custom control which inherit from the Table class and in the constructor, it takes a an integer as an argument. There is no empty constructor.
Is there a way for the user to set that variable in the properties window after they drag the control onto a form.
I know some .NET controls, you can set the source for the parameter to different things like another control's property, QueryString using just the properties window.
Right now, I have to create the control dynamically. I read the query string and then created the object.

I'm working on the following aspx file, and for some reason VS2010 is messing with my code. I have no idea why, and was hoping one of you could have a look at it.
What happens is that most of the times when I hit ctrl+s, it add some code to the end of the file.
