I have a DetailsView control bound to an ObjectDataSource within a User Control (.ascx). It appears that the DetailsView.OnDataBound event is being fired on every page load or postback.
I do not see this behavior with a similiar DetailsView directly placed on an aspx page.

I create a webcontrol (DefectsList as a gridview) with an icon that call an httphandler to open an other webcontrol (DefectEditor as an editor) but the CreateChildControls of the editor is not called!!
see the details below of DefectsList:
[Code]....
and the javascript:

see the details below of DefectEditor:

Why the CreateChildControls is not called, I think is due to the HttpHandler? so how to do?

I'm making a custom modal popup using a bunch divs where the programmer can set how many buttons thay want to apprear on said popup programatically using a function. It works. The only problem is that when the programmer specifies the number of buttons he/she wants it wipes out the skin information for the whole control. If I comment out the call to CreateChildControls the skin works fine, but the new buttons are not created.
In my CreateChildControls function the first thing it does is call Controls.Clear(). I assume this is what's wiping out the skin information, but it's kind of necessary to prevent controls with duplicate IDs.

I have a confusion regarding ajax call.when an ajax call is done why is it so that a page load event is fired when its not a ful page request.
My understanding is that a page load event should not be called on an asynchronous postback.
Can any1 explain me why this is happening?
here is the code:
aspx page:
[Code]....
aspx.cs page:

I want to unit test my rendering engine for an ASP.NET app. I have some custom controls created in that app. Most of those control rely on having CreateChildControls() method called by the ASP.Net engine wheather during initial call or a postback.When running a test CreateChildControls() does not get called and the control is in an "invalid" state.
As a workaround to get the tests going I explicitly call some other public method that calls EnsureChildControls() in it. This in effect causes CreateChildControls() to be executed and the control being initialized properly (just as it would normally when hosted on web server). I would like to get rid of that extra method call and the control to still be in a proper state for testing.

A breakpoint is set on FillForm() and this method is called two times but I can't explain myself why this happens. I have client side javascript code, when the form is being send, the onsubmit method is also called twice... Where do I have to search?! Is it a (known) bug? Think I could get it to work with this Thread: [URL] But why is the event fired within the onblur-event when it's fired anyway??

So I have a GridView control with autogenerated column set to true, it also has autogenerated Edit and Delete buttons, sorting and paging, and also I am binding this same gridview to multiple data sources at runtime. All is working well.
Now I am adding a dynamically generated footer row at runtime. This footer row will allow users to add new record regardless which data source it binds to. So it is working as well except there's a small bug I couldn't figure out why. It's when I navigate to the last page of the gridview, if the rows on the last page is less than the page size, for example, I have page size 10 and the rows in last page is 9, then when I click the 'Add' linkbutton, the Add event does not fire, instead, it fill the last page with additional blank rows, that means if the last page has 5 rows, it will fill 5 blank rows below, if it has 9 rows, it will fill 1 blank row below. Then if you click the add again, it will work. If the last page already has 10 rows then, it works just fine.
Below is the code I used to dynamically add footer row:

Let me explain, describing the scenario:In a custom server control (in my case, derived from CompositeControl), in the overidden CreateChildControls method I create a complex tree of subcontrols, using information from a db.The db provides both information on which controls I need to create (the user interface's structure) and the data used to fill these controls.Than the user can interact with the control and change the data (that becomes different to what stored on db).
My custom control lives in the same page where there are other controls, obviously.And these controls can cause a postback at any time.What I need is that my custom control keeps the data entered by the user across these postback, without reverting to the original data and loose the user data entry.
Here is the first doubt:
1)I create the subcontrols dinamically in the CreateChildControls at any page refresh (both on first call than on postback).I know that the framework solves the reference between the posted data and the controls I create in the CreateChildControls in order to set properties and raise control events, but can you tell me when and how it actually does this? In which phase of page life cycle? What happens after the CreateChildControls?
A second doubt:2)If the user interface structure must change as a consequence of the data entered, I had to execute CreateChildControls twice (the first time to recreate the original interface to get the events and the second time to create the new interface)
In which phase of page/control lifecycle do I have to make the second call to CreateChildControls? I do it on Prerender now, but is it right or wrong, and why?

I'm having the same issue as posted here:
http://forums.asp.net/p/1157529/1904541.aspx#1904541
I have a web user control that implements iWebEditable, and a custom editor part the implements EditorPart. In my custom editor part class, i define a text box, create the textbox in createchildcontrols() then render the textbox in RenderContents() using the following line:
_txtTitle.RenderControl(writer);
As soon as I add the line above (which displays the text box in the editor part) the functions createchildcontrols and applychanges are called in the wrong order. i click save button in the editor part to save changes to textbox, createchildcontrols() is called first, then applychanges() is called after the editorpart and the webpart (custom control) are rendered requiring me to refresh the page (which is not the desired functionality ;-] ). As soon as I comment out the line above in RenderContents() the functions are called in the correct order: appychanges() first, then createchildcontrols().

I have a page on which everything is loaded dynamically.
There is a Gridview (AutoGenerateColumns=true) and in the RowDataBound I check every column for a boolean datatype. If found I add a checkbox (autopostback=true) to the cell and register the CheckedChanged event.
The problem is, that I only get the CheckedChanged event, if I reload the grid in Page_Load:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
LoadGrid();
}
But this is very expensive and causes that the db request will be executed twice. If I changed the code to what I want:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
if (!this.IsPostBack)
loadGrid();
}
I get no CheckedChanged event.
Is there a possibility to get:
- Adding a Checkbox in RowDataBound
- Only "LoadGrid()" if it is no PostBack
- Getting the CheckedChanged event of the relevant row

I built a webcontrol showing a complex user interface with a lot of javascript. Basically my webcontrol is similar to : [URL]
Now that most the user interface is working properly, I'm stuck with the following issue: I want to add a button (html button tag) which has to trigger an event. I have been able to declare the event, the event args, the delegate,etc. The page using my control may assign a handler and that handler is called correctly when I explicitely call OnServerControlClick (The name I gave to the event). I cannot make the link between the button in the user interface and the event in the webcontrol source code. When the button is clicked, I get an error message saying a dangerous Request.Form value has been detected.

I have a base server control class for all my user controls. Inside this class I have the following declaration:
[Code]....
Concrete user controls used in the application are used always inside a ModalPopupExtender object and the popup it is always handled with server-side code. This means that there are no controls binded to the OkControlID and CancelControlID properties of the ModalPopupExtender.
The responsibility to show the Modal Popup is then given to the aspx that has code like this in the ASPX file...
[Code]....
To hide the modal Popup the aspx just implement the event handler
[Code]....
Last, the event firing is responsibility of the concrete UserControl class that can use any way to do it's work and then fire teh event. This is done through this code:
[Code]....
The problem I am facing to is that in the OnItemSaved of the super class the ItemSaved EventHandler is always null and so the event it's never fired on the aspx page. Where am I doing wrong?

I come from the Windows forms side and started using ASP.NET. I have not found how to use event handlers properly.Basically I want to create a shopping cart web control. When a purchase has been made I want to raise an event with products in the purchase. I would like to have the shared/static event and delegate on the web control and then, maybe in Global.asax (if not possible elsewhere) handle that event.
How can I do this? It seems I cannot access objects from other pages/controls.

I have created some dynamic controls, at the runtime from server-side and I want to write the event-handler for those controls. All I did is :
// Defined the control as
[Code]....
// And I wrote the even handler as :
Private Sub addobjective(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
End Sub
My problem is the event-handler function addobjective() is never being called and not getting fired, So the program is not doing what it is supposed to do at the click event of the server side commandbutton add.
