Apr 26, 2010I have a table that stores the URL to files in a folder that should be displayed for download by the site visitor.
In the database all the urls are correct.
I have problems with this one:
"MediaFilesA Programmer's Guide to ADO.NET in C#.pdf" (this is how it is stored in the DB)
When it is displayed it cuts of and thus the URL becomes invalid.
Requested URL: /Finska Institutet/MediaFiles/A Programmer's Guide to ADO.NET in C
All the other ones work fine, i assume this one is not working cause of the # character? How can i fix this so that the url will display correclty in all situations?

I want to retrieve all the 'actor names'from the ACTORS table and display into my .aspx page according to alphabetical wise. for example, the records starts with letter A should be displayed in a column, after that records starts with B will be displayed underneath that one,,,vice versa until Z.I don't want to display the entire actors name into one column because it makes my page looks awkward.

Jan 18, 2010I have a user control that displays a shopping cart in an ecommerce application.
The main cart display is a repeater that renders as a html table. In one of those table columns, there is another repeater to display people associated with the products int he cart (it's a repeater in case there is a line item >1 with multiple people).
I've added an ImageButton that I want to use to change the person associated with the item. At first, when I'd click on it I was getting this error:
Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using <pages enableEventValidation="true"/> in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.
So as an experiment I disabled EventValidation on the page (not the control it's self) and now I do not get an error, but I also do not ever hit the breakpoint I set in the innermost repeater's ItemCommand event.
So I wonder how I might do this without disabling EventValidation, because this control will show up on multiple pages and we don't want to edit them all. Also, I'll need to know not only the repeater containing the control's row that the event came from but also the row index of the repeater containg this one. Is this possible?

I have links at the top of the page that are the letters A-Z. What I want to do is click on one of the letters, then show only the div IDs that start with that letter. I can't figure out how to do this since I'm dynamically creating the ID names. I had it set up nicely with Javascript and CSS, but the function call was inside the repeater. The layout is changed now, and I don't understand how to make the div ID available outside the repeater.

At the moment I am getting a "cannot cast to type" error message with the below code.
I have also tried calling the ItemDataBound method in with the parent repeater tags and had no errors but when I clicked on the button it would just move back to the top of the page and would not hide or show any data. Also I have made the div style to none but the first record still shows its child but the rest don't.

PeopleId, pk and Languags pk each go to the own table People and Language
I know make a method call with my objectdatasource GetPeopleByLanguageId
This returns the languages that the selected person speaks and has a select
query also to lanaguageTable to get LanguageName.
I now print out the results in a datalist that is binding to LanguageName.
What i want to do is show the languages in a horizontal format with a comma after each one.
At the moment if there are 3 languages it shows each one on a seperate line / if I make it horizontal
layout I still dont get a comma. Perhaps I can use a repeater?

Mar 24, 2010I have a Table (in SQL Server) that is being updated roughly every minute or so with new records being inserted from various sources. The number of records inserted in this duration varies from a few records up to dozens of new records. I am using an update panel to rebind my data every minute to keep the GridView current. Now that I have the data refreshing I am looking for a better solution than reloading the data every minute. how to best keep my GridView up to date? Here is what I would like to accomplish:
1. Load the GridView and refresh the contents every minute. (60 second intervals)
2. When the GridView is refreshed every minute I would like to append only the new records to the existing grid, rather than bringing back the entire result set with each round trip to the database.
3. I would like a visual cue to identify the rows that have been inserted into the GridView. If new rows were to flash/flicker with a background color (yellow) that would be ideal.
Am I even using the correct control for displaying real time data, or are their other options? I essentially am looking to find the preferred method of displaying data that is being updated in real time in a web application. I'm hoping there is a solution involving AJAX but I haven't been able to find much on The Google. I am open to changing anything and everything about my approach -- this is largely a learning exercise. For testing purposes I am currently using LinqDataSource in conjunction with a GridView in an UpdatePanel being refreshed by a Timer control every 60 seconds. Informational: I have also started playing with the [URL] in place of the Timer control. However, for the purposes of this example I would be content to achieve the desired behavior using native controls as I have described them above.

Jul 15, 2010I am currently trying to figure out the best way to handle a data formatting issue. I have a stored procedure that pulls back basically all the data I need, but using a gridview doesn't really give me what I need.
For example...currently the gridview displays data like:
Date1 ProjectCode1 Hours ApproveChkBox
Date1 ProjectCode2 Hours ApproveChkBox
Date1 ProjectCode3 Hours ApproveChkBox
Date2 ProjectCode1 Hours ApproveChkBox
...
I would like to be able to display the information like:

Is there anyway to do this using a nested gridview? Or is there a proper way to display this type of format?
