I'd like to use a modalpopupextender in my asp.net page to show a sub form. But it only has to show on specific conditions. Those conditions are determined in a piece of javascript code.So, most importantly, the modal popup doesn't have to show on a button click. However, if I leave the property TargetControlID empty I get the following exception: The TargetControlID of 'ModalPopupExtender1' is not valid. The value cannot be null or empty. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

I wantto show up manually a ModalPopupextender without its TargetControlID assigned to anything.
Thus I dont need a button or linkbutton that triggers to show it up.
I put a hiddenfield and attached it to TargetControlID and I can call ModalPopup manually by its show() method.
so why should I have to assign TargetControlID ? I dont wantto use a useless hiddenfield to attach as its Target.is there any other Ajax Control Modal Window that no need a Target ?

i want to use a ComponentArt:ToolBarItem ID as TargetControlID in AjaxControlToolkit ModalPopupExtender.
my ComponentArt:ToolBarItem ID is "save" but when i write this (TargetControlID="save") this error apears:

In my asp.net4.0 page, I have 3 Images each embedded in LinkButton :

On each image, I want to open a popup with "Download" & "Print" buttons.
I was thinking to create a panel and open a popup on linkbutton click by using ajaxToolkit:ModalPopupExtender . But, I realized that for I will need 3 such panels & ModalPopup's for each image as got to set TargetControlId for each link button.
In my other page, I will have more than 10 images.
What can be the best way to achieve this goal in such way that thru out my app I can call this popup and download or print the image ?

I have girdview1 inside a modalpopupextender1 ,inside the gridview1 i have a checkbox1. here my question is whenever i click paging . (i.e) i click page no 3 or 2 in gridview1 the modalpopup is showed off and checkbox also not checked. first i want to paging gridview inside the modalpopup and whenever i click paging. old value of checkbox wont change.

In a gridview there is 4 columns i.e. application no,name,couse,more.. (linkbutton). When we will click more.. button of any application no, then in a popup window all information of that particular application number will show.

I have created ObjectDataSource control which is bind with the GridView control (In few cases with DetailsView control) as well as I have created new column "Edit" in gridviw with Linkbutton.
Now whenever user clicks on linkbutton it shows ModalPopupExtender with edit fields for that particular selected gridview row.
My problem is that I want to show only few columns in gridview (eg- EmpID, EmpName) and want to edit all columns in modalpopupextender (eg- EmpName, City, State, Pincode etc).
So how can I show all the fields in modalpopupextender to edit becouse when I am reading fields from GridViewRow not able to get the hidden fields which is not included as columns in gridview?
Somehow can I read fields values from ObjectDataSource?

Which I found useful to create gridview with dropdown filter. What my gridview differs from your one is based on ID, a modal is loaded. E.g. there is a column called "review" and in that column there is image that when clicked it loads a modal with details. My question is, how do i do this using the code provided by you. So ID is passed back to code. (So backend knows which row is clicked).

It is working for me but the major problem is that in modelpopup extender in which i have given targetcontrolid of PanelCountry so when i click on next page of Gridview in it opens a PopUp,while i want to open popup when Edit button of Gridview is clicked not for next page of Gridview.
I mean how i will set the TargetcontrolId of Edit button of Gridview in PanelCountry for modelpopup.

I would really appreciate if someone can find out what's wrong with this code.
Here is my question. I have textboxes in a modal popup extender (City, state, zip) and there is an image button search for searching the address from the database. All this functionality is within a control (.ascx file). This control is added to the page where it needs to be displayed and is being displayed when a user click the Address button (the code for it is not shown here). The method ShowAddressSearch() in the control is being called from the page and it displays the popup.
When the user enters any of the 3 values and hits search a server event is fired up and the result should be displayed in a grid. What is happening is, when the user hits the search button the server call is made and the data fetched from the db but the modal popup closes itself here is the code for this. I would really appreciate if someone can find out where and how popup is getting closed.

I have a Gridview which has x amount of rows. I have an selectIndexChanged method which when a user clicks on the row capture the id of the row and execute a query and populate a table with the data returned from the query. I want this table open in a modalpopupextender once the user click the row in the gridview , I want the selectindexchange method to run n show the modalpopup.

I am connecting to an access db using Visual Studio Express 2010.
I have a dropdownlistbox that pulls names from a database. When I select a name Gridview1 gets populated. Now I want to populate Gridview2 with more data when I click 'Select' link in Gridview1 but it's not working.
I am passing name (string) and number (number) fields to the gridview2 based on the gridview1.selectedvalue property and am seeing:
Input string was not in a correct format.

In my scenerio, i've a dropdownlistbox by which i want to filter, a textbox for the text to filter and two textbox for specifying from and to date.
A gridview control for displaying the filtered data and a sqldatasource control and a commandbutton called search.
The following code is used to filter the data in database and it works properly. But when i click on edit in gridview, the gridview displays no records and again when i click on search button the data is displayed on the gridview displayed with the selected row in editmode.

hope somebody can help with this issue as I've been struggling for days to work out what I've done wrong. Basically, I have a gridview that I've attached a small pop-up form to edit just the fields that I want editing (rather than all of the fields from the GridView). The update works OK in that the data is written back to the database OK and the pop-up form closes. However, the view of the gridview isn't returned and everything is as though the pop-up form was still there. The only way around it seems to refresh the page. The front-end is like this:

I have a GridView that when you click a button it opens up a Panel inside a ModelPopupExtender - this uses a detailsView to show the details of the selected item from the GridView. I have added a button that I was using to update these details.
Problem is I get the error:

I added the update parameters to the SQL Data Source of the DetailsView, but this hasn't done the trick...
I suspect I am doing or missing something here, but I am not 100% sure
Would someone be kind enough to point me in the right directions or suggest weblinks that details this kind of requirement,
