I have on a page a gridview that can be filtered with one text box. I set up the gridview to show select and wanted to then connect a details view so that when you selected a row the entire details would show up. When I run it I get this error. Data keys must be specified on GridView 'GridView1' before the selected data keys can be retrieved. Use the DataKeyNames property to specify data keys.

I have also tried the Onselectedindexchanged but it's still not working. However when i use the above methods on other types of gridview, they all work very well.
I have a number of user controls. The inner most one has a gridview along with a button, but the gridview sits inside a panel. When the button is clicked, the panel is suppose to show the gridview, but it doesn't. I have even put a break point on the code behind on the button event, but it doesn't event hit the break point when I click the button again.

My gridview is in update panel therefore i did this in .js script :
My goal is to load a row details from db to a webform and let the user update it's value .
The user searches an id (i have a stored procedure for that), how i show that data from the row nicely in the web page through the dal layer. After the data is shown on the page the user need to update a cell in the row and send it.(the part of updating is not the problem).
in other questions how should the dal method should look and how i integrate it's result in the presentation layer (the aspx webform).

The asp.net page source for itemtemplate of the datalist is as follows.The problem is that since the div id "Description" is applicable to multiple records, no matter I click on whichever "show details" link, the description of first record in the datalist is shwon and hidden since its the first div encountred by the javascript. In my project i have a need to select some check boxes in a GridView and show the details in another gridview. I use an arraylist to keep all the values of the checkbox using the foreach loop, but i can't able to display the records in another Grid view.
I have a panel at the top of my page which contains some cascading dropdown lists. Once the user selects from the lists, they will click a 'Search' asp.net button and a gridview will appear below showing the search results. What I want to do is use JQuery to toggle the visibility of the search panel. I tried using the Ajax collapsiblepanelextender but ran into all kinds of problems, because there are many updatepanels and ajax extension controls on this page. It sounds so simple, just hide or show, but I can't get it to work. When I click the button, the panel hides. When I click it again, the panel does not reappear. I have also tried having 2 buttons, 'hide' and 'show', and had the same results. right now here is my code:
