DataSource Controls :: Accessing A Record In Code Behind In C#?

Feb 21, 2010

I have a page called Article.aspx that takes content from the database. I would like to use the title of the content as the title of the page for a little SEO I am doing. I setup a literal on the aspx page that must take the value of the content title from the code behind, what is the best way about doing this? I'm guessing I need to open a data base connection to read the record from the table but I am still learning asp.net and not sure how to write it

DataSource Controls :: Getting The PK ID Of The Newly Created Record After Inserting A New Record?

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[fpa_sp_albums_update_insert]
@album_id int,
@album_name nvarchar (50),
@album_descr nvarchar(250),
@album_img_cover_id_FK int,
@album_creation_date date
AS
If @album_id > 0
UPDATE [fpa_albums]
SET
album_name=@album_name,
album_descr= @album_descr,
album_img_cover_id_FK = @album_img_cover_id_FK,
album_creation_date = @album_creation_date
Where ((album_id = @album_id))
Else
INSERT INTO [fpa_albums] (
album_name,
album_descr,
album_img_cover_id_FK,
album_creation_date)
VALUES (
@album_name,
@album_descr,
@album_img_cover_id_FK,
@album_creation_date)
Return SCOPE_IDENTITY();

I execute the above stored procedure using the SQLHELPER. The VB.NET code for the page is as follows:

[Code]....

However, the createdAlbumID always shows -1 instead of the id for the newly created album.

AJAX :: Controls Inside Tab Container Accessing Through .cs Code Behind

Mar 5, 2010

I've a web project where i've an Tab Container (ajaxtoolkit), and when i run the project it works properly. But when i debug it, it gives me erros in all the controls inside the Tab Container that i'm accessing through .cs code behind (buttons, checkbox, etc).

Visual Studio gives me "The name 'controlname' does not exist in the current context". This happen to all controls inside the Tab Container that i'm accessing in code behind, but the Web project is running with no problems! As it's the first time that i use an Tab Container, i don't know if this is normal or maybe of Visual Studio 2010 RC (or not).

Forms Data Controls :: DetailsView Accessing Textbox Through Code Behind?

Jan 25, 2010

I've been playing with a certain detailsview for most of last week. This particular control is located within a panel that is hidden until a user clicks a linkbutton on a gridview. Then the panel's visible property is set to true and the detailsview is populated based on the commandargument passed through the link button. What I've discovered is that with each postback, the datakey or control parameter, still not sure which or if both, is lost. I've discovered a lot about ViewState and how controls work and am a bit surprised that something as common as using a detailsview within a gridview wouldn't be handled better than it is now. I have been able to get the proper information to build a correct select statement when the user decides to edit a record. I am now working on an update statement, but for some reason while I have the right key to update the right record, I am unable to access the user-generated data that was entered in the details view.

For instance, I select record with ID of 1 in the gridview. It pulls up the detailsview and I can view it. I then click edit. The correct record is still there. (It was previously going to default). When I enter new text in a textbox and click update, the app still knows I am working with record #1 but doesn't seem to be able to find the textbox control. I have currently hard-coded a value into the field just to see if I could actually get the record to update and it did. I am using an OnInit to cause the sub to run and think this might be the problem. However, I have been unable to find a better way around this.

Here is the sub that executes on the OnInit() of the detailsview:

Protected Sub notes_binding()
If notesDetail.CurrentMode = DetailsViewMode.Edit Then
sqlNotesUpdate.UpdateCommand = "UPDATE [Oilchange_Notes] SET [notes] = '" & CType(notesDetail.FindControl("notes"), Textbox).Text & "' WHERE [vehicle_id] = " & Session("unitNumVal")
sqlNotesUpdate.UpdateCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.Text
sqlNotesUpdate.Update()
End If
sqlNotesUpdate.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [Oilchange_Notes] WHERE ([vehicle_id] = " & Session("unitNumVal") & ")"
End Sub

And this is the error I get: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If I'm correct about why it's not pulling the actual value or even acknowledging the control exists and is actually 'notes' (it is), then at would point would be the best to place this code?

DataSource Controls :: Accessing The Data In The Objectdatasource?

Feb 14, 2010

I have a webpage that uses a formview. The formview gets the data from the objectdatasource which connects to a query in a table adapter.

I wanted to add a hyperlink in the page right below the formview that will "hyperlink" to another page passing parameters. Those parameters are values from the formview.

Can I just access the parameters of objectdatasource from outside the formview as follows?(it isn't working)?:

<asp:HyperLink
ID="HyperLink215"
NavigateUrl='<%# Eval("VIN", "Contact.aspx?Subject={0}") %>'
runat="server">Contact Us Regarding This Vehicle</asp:HyperLink>

If not, can I access those parameters in codebehind and do a redirect from there? How do I access the data of objectdatasource from codebehind? If I can do that, I could just put a button. Then in the button's click even, I could do the redirect.

DataSource Controls :: Accessing Array Objects In Sql Statement?

Jun 6, 2010

I have a gridview control that displays expenses claims received from clients. I have a template field that contains a checkbox - if this is ticked, a value from the gridview is added to a variable and this is outputted to a label control.

What I then want to do is to update the database according to which row has been ticked. I have so far the following code that adds each value to an array, which I was then hoping to access in the sql query i.e. Update table set value = value where id = (id's added to array)..

Code as follows - so far I'm just displaying the count of values in the array to make sure they are actually being added:

DataSource Controls :: LINQ And C# - Accessing More Then 2 Tables In A Query

Apr 23, 2010

As the title sugests, I am missing a (basic?) concept as I teach myself asp.net, linq, and C#. It has been awhile since I've done anything object oriented, so I don't know how much that is impacting this gap in my understanding. Anyhow, here is what I am trying to do. I have three SQL Server tables: PERSON, POSITION, AREA. There is a 1 to many relationship between PERSON and POSITION, and a 1 to 1 relationship between POSITION and AREA. Given the following code I verify who the person is who has logged into the browser:

[Code]....

I want to be able to return all of the AREAs the person is able to access, based on the position they currently hold. I am able to easily do this in a SQL Server query, and I am sure I can do this with a SQL stored procedure once I pass the EMPLOYEE_ID to the procedure. However, I would rather do this in the page_load event, and load the returned results into gridview1 for the viewer. The issue I am running into is in building the LINQ query. When I try to build it, I can only get access to two of the three tables, depending on which table I select with db. Is it possible to access all three tables in the same query?

Web Forms :: Code-Behind Null Reference Exception Accessing Controls With Derived PageBase?

Feb 16, 2010

I have a class that derives from System.Web.UI.Page and have set my pages to derive from this custom page class instead of Page. At runtime, the controls are never initialized and throw a NullReferenceException. I've changed some class names and namespaces in the pasted code to protect the innocent. The only thing that I currently override in my PageBase is OnPreLoad and I do call the base.OnPreLoad. I'll eventually add more functionality to this PageBase but for now all that it has is this:

[Code]....

I've tried putting this into a class library (with System.Web referenced) and I've also tried moving the class into the web application and had the same results either way. As another strange twist, I have another class with derives from PageBase called IndexPageBase and it doesn't have this problem:

DataSource Controls :: SQL Insert A Record Using VB?

Mar 31, 2010

I'm very new to this area and am using ASP.NET 3.5 with WMD 2008 Express Edition and VB code.

How do I write records to the SQL database using VB? I want to use the connection string, etc used in the ASP.NET controls if possible.

My website is a Rugby Club site and I've an SQL database of match fixtures which include TeamId(1XV, 2XV, etc.), Season(2008, 2009, etc) and match date.

I allow some users to update the fixture details but want to insert a series of new fixture records for the neext season which contain just TeamId Season and Match Dates. I therefore want to take the season and Team Id from label fields and then create match dates by adding seven days to a start date.

DataSource Controls :: Accessing The Result Set Of A Stored Procedure - How To Fix This Error

Jul 27, 2010

I'm programming a webpage in ASP.NET which displays a list of students not listed as participants in something, and upon clicking a student name shows you a brief summary of their details, so the user can ensure they're selecting the right person. Each student is identified by a unique ID.

My code currently correctly obtains their ID, adds it as a parameter to my stored procedure and executes the procedure;

[Code]....

However, when I try to access the results, with say dv.Table.Rows[0], I get the following error:

[Code]....

Upon debugging, there don't seem to be any results returned... when running just the stored procedure in SQL Server with the same data, it does return a single row, as expected.
