I want to add a field in a Existing table.

I have a table added to a dbml file in my website. The website is already deployed to Live server. Now I have been instructed to a add a new field to the table. The field will be defaulted as getdate().
I don't plan to modify my dbml file for this change since the filed holds a default value. Will it cause any issue(performance related or any other). I am sure that I will not have to use the newly added field in the website. I am new to LINQ.
To Add new row to a dataset table, I am using code below. Before adding this how do I check if that row has already been added to the dataset?
Example:
Dim newCustomersRow As DataRow = DataSet1.Tables("Customers").NewRow()
newCustomersRow("CustomerID") = "ALFKI"
newCustomersRow("CompanyName") = "Alfreds Futterkiste"
DataSet1.Tables("Customers").Rows.Add(newCustomersRow)
Note: The table I am dealing with does not contain a primary key!
I need to add Existing row value and new value in table
ex,
ProductID QTY
1 5
2 10
3 5
here the productid 1 is having QTY 5 now i update this Qty to 25
how do i form the query add QTY 5+20=25
i want to amend existing data in a table with new data how to do it in sql??
Ex:i want to amend name called john to peter how to do it??
I have a table with several columns i created,
How can i add a new column and specify its data type now? i using sql server and Gridview.
I tried to add one using GridView but it shows me columns called edit delete something is not like my bound fields i created early.
I'm looping through an ArrayList and creating a column in a DataTable from each field. One of my fields is a DateTime field, and I've noticed that when I create the columns, it's being changed to a String, but I need it to still be a DateTime field for sorting. I'm trying to do this, but it's not quite working.

ive a DB in access with a single table and no primary key, actually i dont need a primary key but i can consider a date field plus another to make an index. however i want to add a counter field based on every change of date field, for instance ill have many records of 20/May and all must have the same id then when the date is different, the next group of records with that new date must show 2 etc.. is it a quick way to update my database?
View 6 RepliesI have a form that submits one entry to a 'Listings' table and multiple entries to a 'ListingLocation' table depending on how many cities the user selected. When the listing is created, I need the auto generated 'id' field to input into each of the the listing rows of the 'ListingLocation' table. This seems like it should be simple but I cannot figure it out. I currently have it hardcoded to enter '22' where I need it to enter the listing id.
<script runat="server">
I guess the code is totally right and doesn't require any change in it,, however am getting an error which says "Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '11/11/2010' to data type int."check the attached file ..

I have just started using LINQ with VS2008. I have added extra columns to my table, saved the changes, but class ClassName.Designer.CS didn't get updated. What do I have to do to updated the class? Do I have to do it manually, or is there a way to automatically synchronize tables and ClassName.Designer.CS?

I then put in say Misc Credit and enter 200.00 it inserts in that into the database woot.
The look up table that has my amount types has a field called numeric opperator which is either + or - the Credit being a - and the Charge being a + then my stored procedure takes all my + numbers and adds them up and subtracts all the - numbers.
I want to change that so that it actuall be inserted into the table as a - number form the start. So I want choose Misc Credit enter 200.00 and click add then my event says o yea thats a credit insert 200.00 as -200.00

From an ASP.net page I would like that my user is capable of changing the RECIPE_STATUS from a given recipe. For that I have a DataGrid which is bind to the RECIPE table.
But then what I would like is that the STATUS shown to my user to be the name Locked,Running or free depedning on the Id

IN addition to that, If my user change the status for a given recipe, it should be properly save.
I have the following code, i add code for required validator, but when you make selection from dropdown to create the table, the page generates an error. Should the logic be somewhere else to add it to the table? i mean, dont they have to be there so when you submit the form, it fires the validation?

Here is the error that comes up, when i make a selection from my dropdown that creates the table.
Line: 938

In of my application I am using the database to store and retrive images. The table stores the documents and the datatype of the field is IMage.
Now with Sql Server 2008, i would like to upgrade this to use this new feature. WHat changes do I have to make in terms of code and also in the database.
I have a Gridview on my aspx page. On my page_load event I check for a record in the database, if the record exists for that row in the gridview I would like to add a new column in the same gridview and add a button control to it. This adding of new column in the Gridview should happen in the codebehind (c#). see the code I wrote for this, but when I run it, it does not create any column on the gridview page.

I am fairly new to ASP.Net and web programming in general and I am having issues trying to add values from a dropdown list in my gridview to another table.
Here is my scenario. I have 2 tables in my SQL Express DB. When editing the values of table2 in a gridview, I would like to show some data from table1 in a dropdown so users can select a value from table 1 and enter that value in table 2.
I have the Gridview setup to show table2 data.
I created a field template and inserted my dropdown list and linked it to my table1 data source.
When I run my web form, I can click to edit one of the fields in the gridview, and my dropdown list correctly displays the data from table 1, but when I try to update the table2 with the dropdown value, it doesn't correctly update. The row in table2 never updates.
posting the dropdown value from table 1 into the appropriate field in table2..
Again, I am new to this and have been following the tutorials etc on this site, but can't find one pertaining to this topic.
