DataSource Controls :: Changing Paramter Type Of Integer To String?
May 20, 2010
How can I change the parameter value from Interger to String.
Here below is the part of the code that creates problem; the constant "sqlStatement" is as string, but when the parameters "@ProdColor" read the value it returns an integer instead of the proper type which is a string. I have tried every ting like: CType(sqlStatement(splitItems(1)), string)
Or convert or parse, but it keeps returning the wrong type.
Const sqlStatement As String = "INSERT INTO ProductDetails (ProdID,ProdColor,ProdSize) VALUES"
If item.Contains(",") Then
splitItems = item.Split(",".ToCharArray)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProdID", SqlDBType.Int).Value = sqlStatement(splitItems(0))
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProdColor", SqlDBType.NVarchar).Value = sqlStatement(splitItems(1))
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProdSize", SqlDBType.NVarchar).Value = sqlStatement(splitItems(2))
I get the error - Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Integer' is not valid. - on the line.....
Dim newid As Integer = e.Command.Parameters("@latestRowId").Value.........in vb code behind.
I have the identical code for another page with the exception of the field names and it works fine. The only thing I did differently, as far as I know, is I copied the asp and code behind from the page that works into this page and manually changed the field and table names. I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone see any problems?
I have an odd problem. I have a page called search.aspx. When the search button is clicked, the user is supposed to be redirected to another website. The redirection code is in one of the postback events.
I have this same code deployed in two environments. Working Environment It has .NET 2.0 and 3.0, but no service packs. Here is how the source is rendered:
Notice that the rendered "action" is different. So, I have a few questions.
Why would ASP.NET change the action in one situation, but not the other? Why would ASP.NET change the action at all? Is there some sort of configuration I can make so that it always changes the action to "search.aspx"? (We haven't changed this code in years, and nobody wants to touch it.)
Sub btnAdd_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) 'converting datatypes to integer Dim insertB As Integer Dim insertA As Integer Dim cat As Integer cat = ddl.SelectedItem.Value
This is all in the Code Behind under the Page Load function.
Basically, I'm trying to convert an ASP page into ASP.NET. I've worked with ASP and PHP a lot more than I have with ASP.NET and I'm just having trouble with the syntax.
I have this error "The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type datetime of the specified target column." when I used sqlbulkcopy to do the transaction
I am trying to write a table output from SQL database to a gridview/ Data List through an Object Data Source. I am a new starter and your help will be useful.
public List<Staff> GetStaff() cmd.CommandType = SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(connectionstring);SqlCommand cmd = new [code]...
I'm trying to compare a parameter of type String with a database field of type ntext. Below is my vb code. carDescription is a field in the database table that is of type ntext. The code didn't work because you can't use the equality operator.
Dim carDescriptionLookupCmdString As String = "SELECT carMake FROM car WHERE carDescription = @description" Dim carDescriptionLookupCmd As New SqlCommand(carDescriptionLookupCmdString, dbConnection) carDescriptionLookupCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@description", description) Dim reader As SqlDataReader = carDescriptionLookupCmd.ExecuteReader()
I read a CSV file into a DataTable. The DataTable in the first image shows each column and type. The types are exactly what they are supposed to be and the data loaded all the rows it was supposed to load. From the second screen shot you can see the database table. SqlBulkCopy is supposed to map column names to database columns by default.According to that logic each column matches up exactly to the database and the column types also match. However, when I run the command it errors on the first row with:
"The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type decimal of the specified target column."
Here is the StackTrace:
"at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.ConvertValue(Object value, _SqlMetaData metadata) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServerInternal() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteRowSourceToServer(Int32 columnCount) at
[code]...
Anyone have any ideas why this will not import correctly?
Getting this error: Conversion from string "04/07/2010" to type 'Double' is not valid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
Using cmdUpdate As New SqlCommand With cmdUpdate .Connection = onyxConnection .CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure[code]....
I have a FormView that allows a user to register for a company event. I want to do a couple of things with this form.
1. I need to write this data to a MS SQL database
2. I need to send an email confirmation of their registration to their email.
I know how to do both of these things, but i am having trouble doing both at the same time.
It would be nice if I could do it in one click, but I coded it into two pages to try to help simplify it.
The first page allows the user to input their information into a formview and when they click the submit button, it places those answers into session variables:
[Code]....
[Code]....
The Second page confirms the users information by taking those session variables and placing them into labels:
[Code]....
[Code]....
However, after I place information into the formview on the first page, it throws up this error:
"Conversion from type 'TextBox' to type 'String' is not valid".
Using vb.net,asp.net 1.1,sql server Sorry about the Subject Line didn't quite know what to put in it. My problem is i'm making an RSS feed and I need to get the last question in my table. I have a SPROC already that I can get any question that I want by questionID Here is a some of the code:
[Code]....
The questionID is Primary 1,1 so what I need to know is do I have to write another SPROC or can I get the highest number row or last row throught the value. For instance, Dim myLastRow as Integer = What? Then for (ByVal questionID As Integer) I would myLastRow)
I have a gridview which I'm trying to get the display of phonenumbers listed in a certain display format; (xxx) xxx-xxxx.If I have the code such as this, it displays the unformatted phone number and (000) 000-0000 for the null items.
I'm trying to pass email addresses from an array to a stored procedure, then display the results in my gridview. I get the following error:No mapping exists from object type System.String[] to a known managed provider native type.On this line: Dim DR As SqlDataReader = MyCommand.ExecuteReader
We are using visual studio 2005 and SSMSE for this project. I had already created some pages which is capable of inserting and updating the values on the sql server. After inserting and updating it will redirect to another page to view the result. When I add a homepage, something just mess up. When I insert a new items for the table, it prompts a message, DBnulls cannot be converted to type integer. When I try to check at the sql tables, the data was inserted but I was not able to view the result on the other page.
