Running Stored Procedure Using Linq Into SQL Members Table?
Sep 8, 2010Using asp.net MVC in c#, I am making a call to a stored procedure using Linq into my SQL Members table. I have no internal caching on the application, already checked to make sure it is turned off.
Test case:I have my username set to test1. From the website I change my username to test2. The website still shows test1. I go to Management Studio and run my stored procedure called MemberByEmail, it shows test2 correctly.I start simple, refresh my page to see if it's browser cache, still test1. I go to debugging and walk through the code and find that it goes correctly all the way to here to call the database:

Again I ran the stored procedure through Management Studio, and it came up with test2 as the username. I waited for 15 minutes, refreshing the web page every 5 or so, and it never cleared and served the correct test2 from the db. The last strange piece, I ran IISReset and refreshed the page, test2 was returned.
UPDATE: I created a console application to take out the web piece of it. The problem is the same when accessing directly from a console app also, no change.
DataSource Controls :: Store Members And Newsletter Subscribers In Database?
May 18, 2010On a website I'm building user's can subscribe to newsletters by entering their email address into a form and submitting. This will then add them to a 'Newsletter_Subscribers' table in the database.
Users can also sign-up to the website by entering their username/password/email details. They also have the option of subscribing to the newsletter. If they choose to do this then their email address is added to the 'Newsletter_Subscribers' table.
However, I wish to make the data more consistent rather than storing the email address into two different unrelated tables in the database.
Has anyone tackled this issue before, and what is the best way to go about storing this information?
One idea I had was to have a 'Users' table, a 'Users.Members' table and a 'Users.Subscribers' table. All three would have a relating UserID column, with the email address stored in the 'Users' table but I'm not sure this is the best method as I would also wish to store the Username/Password in the 'Users' table in case we had a 'Users.Advertisers' table for example.

Apr 28, 2010Our site has a page for maintenance of existing members (e.g. adding / changing roles, etc.)This page currently uses a gridview to show a complete list of all members, based on GetMembers() method to populate it.However, as the number of users has grown to several hundred, it has become difficult to locate a particular user by paging through several pages.Is there a way to narrow down this list, maybe with a filtering textbox, so that as you start typing into that textbox, only members whose name contains the typed characters will show up in the gridview?

Aug 7, 2010I have an aggregate stored procedure (named sp2) that returns a count of records meeting a certain criteria ASrecCount. I am using a DAL per the ASP.NET tutorial and have created a Table Adapter (named
sp2TableAdapter) with GetData and Fill methods. I have a button on an ASP.NET page that launches an event handler. In the button's event handler, I have this line: sp2TableAdapter sp2 = new sp2TableAdapter();
What works so far:
This code will bind the value of sp2 to a data control:
sp2TableAdapter sp2 = new sp2TableAdapter();
DropDownList1.DataSource = sp2.GetData();
DropDownList1.DataValueField = "recCount ";
DropDownList.DataTextField = "recCount";
DropDownList1.DataBind();
When running this page and clicking the button, the numeric value of recCount returned from sp2 is bound to the DropDownList control and 1 row is poplated with the recCount value (in my case 1451).
Problem:
In the event handler, I do not want to bind the value of recCount to a control, but want to to use it in some logic as an integer. What is the C# code that will do this? (In place of the DropDownList control lines above)

May 27, 2010I am viewing items returned from a dataset in an Infragistics chart control. My problem is that due to a weak point in the control, I am left looking for a way to manipulate the height of the chart based on the count/number of items returned by the ObjectDataSource(DataSet).
Does anyone one have an existing C# sample they could let me view of accessing the count of records returned within the code-behind of a page that I could then use within a case statement to set the hight of the control?

I want to select the number of goals, assist and cards a player has in a specific tournament. I tried with this query but then the goal and card column shows the sum of the number of rows matching the playerid in the Goal table and the Card table...For example if there is two matching rows in the goal table and three matching rows in the card table, I get 5 in both these columns in the resultset.
