I build a webpage to edit the data entry, all the textbox wroks fine. However when I update the value originally took in using dropdown list , I get error and couldn't get correct update.

Within the formview, i have added drop down lists that are binded to the hobbies and Colors tables so they can edit their previous selection.On clicking Uodate update formview calls an Update Method that adds new selections to the User databaseNow I have two questionsIs it possible to show in the dropdown list the selected value that the User has already made?If the user only changes hobbies and not colors when they click update will a null value be passed into the data table for colors that replaces their previous selection?

I have a repeater which contains dropdown list in it.
The items in the dropdown list are all the same at fist.
But if i select a item in one dropdown, then the selected item will be deleted in the other dropdown list.
For example A, B, C, D,E are the five items in dropdown list, and repeater has three lines.
If A is selected in the dropdown list in the first line of repeater, then the dropdown list in the other lines will only have four items to select, they are B, C, D, E.
If then D is selected in the dropdown list in the third line of repeater, then the dropdown list in the second line will only have B, C, E to choose.
I can do this in csharp code, how can i do it in .aspx page?
Using C# and sql server. I have a gridview which is populated using a sql query. I have 5 columns in the gridview ( projectid,project name,description,date,status). I'm using the Edit/update option that is available in the gridview to edit/update a user selected row. When I use this Text boxes appear. I want to have a drop down list for status instead of a text box with values Started,Inprocess,Complete, Inhold.

I am very new to coding in asp.net, I've never done anything before, but heres my problem, I have a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database, and basically I need to be able to search that database by 3 different things, basically there is tons of data, and I need to be able to search by a member ID, a location, and a group name So basically I wanted a drop down list, with these 3 column names, and than a search box where you can actually type in what you are looking for, than have the results display, I have been trying to do this with gridview, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly
View 14 RepliesI am using an SQL Express server hosted on a different machine and it is listed in my server explorer just fine. It is listed as my connection string in my web.config just fine as well and lastly it seems to sync just fine with my asp.net membership tables. My question is does it need to be listed in my app data folder of my site? Currently I have the ASPNETDB.mdf connection listed, which is apparently just a local sql express connection. The database I am using in my webconfig and other files is not listed so do I need to add it there?
Second question is about DAL, Data Access Layers. I have mostly been using presentation level SQL commands with my data presentation controls. Manually entering separate select, insert and update statements. I just went through a tutorial that stated the best way to interact with your database in asp.net is with DAL using table adapters. It mentioned that it gives you the ability to use strongly-typed references to each row. My question is can I use the same method multiple times on a single page. For instance a method inside an adapter named GetProductsByID(@ID) ? What if I want this bound to three different gridviews on a single page? Anyone have any other general things to point out about using DAL over presentation level commands?
I have created an asp.net customizable gridview where user will be able to add and delete data. Now I face some proplem with this gridview. now I want to add a dropdown list (which is dynamically bind with database) inside the grid. I created code and it bind well. when the page is post back previous selected dropdown list value lose and set to selectedIndex=0; For this reason I used if(!page.Ispostback) and put the dropdown binding code inside this. Basically the main page has a couple of DataSourceObjects sucking information from a local database and displaying them on the page. The page is a form, which then generates an HTML email and fires it off using the SMTPClient. The problem is that I cannot seem to get the data from the database to be accessable from the code-behind. Attempting to get data from either of the ListViews results in a number of Null Exception errors, mainly when using the ExtractItemValues method. The OrderedDictionary that comes back always seems to be empty. So I figured I'd use one of the 3 Object Data Sources I already have set up, that queries the actual database, but cannot find any way of calling the Select statement present in either of them, let alone managing to store and access what comes back.
