I followd Brian Orrell LINQ tutorial for paging/sorting and created a gridview bound to an ObjectDataSource through a method call which gets data from adatabase. My form includes two buttons with a textbox next to each one of them. I need to be able to populatte th egridview depending on the button that was pressed, I cannot figure out how signal my method which button was pressed. [Code].... [URL]
I'm trying to use an objectdatasource and populate it with a query that has "or" in its where statement. eg: select * from customers where customer_id = "34" or "35" or "36"The problem is... I don't know ahead of time how many of these "or" conditions there will be - the user can choose as many or as few as they want. It seems that if I want to use an objectdatasource tied to a tableadpater I'm forced to know the number of parameters ahead of time so that I can build the objectdatasource's input parameters e.inputparameters.add doesn't work, because the key (in this case "id") is the same for each parameter because the where statment has "or"s....
I've a form view with various field in edit and an object datasource where I've defined my update parameters that my update method takes. I've set some of the fields in the edit template to read only because I want them to display.
Unfortunately they are getting passed in as update parameters somehow to my objectdatasource. So, it is generating update parameters that causes my method to not match.
How can I exclude these parameters from getting sent to update?
I'm attempting to develop an n-tier web application that makes use of the ObjectDataSource on a page. The page shows the classic 'user details' page to allow create, read, update and delete actions for an object within the users collection. Let me explain that again as I think it might be the root of my issue. I have a class named 'user', I also have a class named 'users' which exposes a list of 'user' objects. It's this 'users' class that is the source of my ObjectDataSource control.
What i'm hoping to have happen is that the page will display a 'user' object from the 'users' class (which it does) and that the end user can then amend the values in a formview before updating them (it kind of does this). The problem I'm running into is that all the 'user' objects are getting updated with th ealtered values and not just the currently displayed object. I suspect that this has something to do with the web being stateless, but i'm going 'round in circles trying to figure out where i'm going wrong.
I can post code if required, but what i'm looking for is a decent (read as: easy to follow/understand) site where I can get a better understanding of what i'm supposed to be doing.
My environment is VS2010, C#, .NET 2.0, but I don't think the environment is the issue, merly the chair-keyboard interface.

I try to update the detailview control. got this error messsage.
ObjectDataSource 'odsDetail' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: hospitalID, hospitalName, taxID, address1, address2, city, state, zip.
I bind this to a GridView but I'm not looking to edit row by row. Instead my GridView has a bunch of TemplateFields with textboxes. I also have a Button that when pressed, invokes the Update method of the ODS. So then the "UpdateTestData" function in my TestBLL is called. This looks like this:

At run-time in debug, it seems like the object for the signature above is not populated with the data from my GridView.
I have a FormView which is bound to an SQLDataSource. When a user clicks on a save button the form, I need to write any changes made to the FormView back to the table.
I have a Stored Procedure on my MSSQL 2005 database that should be executed when the user clicks on the save button.
It appears the Update is firing, but when I trap the DbCommand object in the SQLDataSource's 'Updating' event, all of the parameters that should be passed to the Stored Procedure are coming through as NULLs. Consequently, the Stored Procedure isn't updating anything.
In the click event of the save button I'm explicitly firing the SQLDataSource's Update method:

The parameters in the SQLDataSource <UpdateParameters></UpdateParameters> section appear to be correct.
Can anyone give me an idea on what to investigate to figure out why it appears the Update is only picking up NULLs?
I have been in the process of updating my code with security methods, and I've been learning this from [URL] (or "Security Guidelines: ASP.NET 2.0"). In the middle of the page under "When Constructing SQL Queries, Use Type Safe SQL Parameters" it says "Use type safe parameters when constructing SQL queries to avoid possible SQL injection attacks that can occur with unfiltered input". Now, what they suggested was to use code like:
"DataSet userDataset = new DataSet(); SqlDataAdapter myCommand = new SqlDataAdapter(LoginStoredProcedure", connection); myCommand.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; myCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add("@au_id", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11);........"
So, that would be how I would modify my current code base to use type safe parameters in sql updating/inserting.
Getting to my actual question, as it was said "Use type safe parameters when constructing SQL queries to avoid possible SQL injection attacks that can occur with unfiltered input". First off, this suggests that this should apply to unfiltered input. Also, in their example they only did this for an ID.
So, what I'd like to know, when it comes to "unfiltered input", does this mean as long as the input is unfiltered I must use type safe parameters, or even filtered input shall have this (just to be sure), like, input that has been ran through a regularexpression check? Shall I do this for all values I insert/update into the database, or just IDs and important things?
The way I see it right now is that it would be a good precaution to just do type safe checks on everything (literally) that updates/inserts into the database just to be extra safe. But, I really am unsure if this is really the best idea, because if I did, would this possibly cause overprocessing of information? Can this cause too much strain on server resources? If my fears serve true, what would be a good suggestion of how I could implement this properly without having to worry about what I said?
I have a SQL datasource, hooked to a gridview. When i submit my updated row, the update parameters fills with the original values, instead of the new values. Am i doing something wrong? I have tried to handle everything in the html, and not code any parameter settings. All my update parameters are called the same as the field in my gridview, and i use a prefix infront of the parameter names in my updatecommand, in my case : (instead of @) since i use oracle.
I have an ObjectDataSource that I want to perform updates using a business entity i.e. Type="Object"). Since the values for the entity are within a user control, I have stored a reference to the control in Session and in the updating event, set the new instance to the value of the entity from the user contol property (which also pulls values from the form viaother properties of the control):

My question is, how can I get the update method to pass this entity to the update method in my BLL class? It seems the Update method requires an ID or reference to the original object to use in determining whether any changes have taken place, but I don't really want to do this. In other words, I just want to use the Update event on my ObjectDataSource to pass my entity to the method ("Update") I set as a property and then let this business method handle the update of the data. Shown below, is the BLL update method I want to call:

When I try to call this as it stands now, I get an error: ObjectDataSource 'MasterDataSource' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: ID, entity. Previously, I'd set up a long list of parameters of basic data types (string, int, boolean), but this is rather cumbersome and I was hoping to use an entity for this (FYI, I also got the same type of error when I tried this approach, but with the ID as the last parameter in the list). Perhaps what I'm doing here is atypical to how the ODS is normally used?? Has anyone done something like this successfully?

I searched a lot of threads but still couldn't get my problem fixed. I have to update the "regform" table with two fields: session_ and session2. These two fields are inside the detailview edititem template which bounded to dropdown list drpsession1, drpsession2 separately. I wanted to pass the update parameters to the update sql UPDATE dbo.regform SET session_=@session_, session2=@session2 where id=@id
the @session_ is bounded to a drpsession1 and @session2 is bounded to drpsession2. I used ControlID="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$DetailsView1$drpsession1" to access the dropdown list within the detailview, but still couldn't do the updates. What's wrong with my code? Do I have to use the code behind to specify the update parameters? and How to do it? TIA.
Can you post of an example of Gridview with EditItemTemplate using ObjectDataSource as data connectionand Update the the specific row. Ihave lots of sleepness night with this problem.

I am using a gridview to select a record and control that record using a details view. I am using a class based objectdatasource to link the data for select, update and delete. Sofar the select works but the update fails. Here is my error message:

The first group of parameters have lower case letters and they come from my objectdatasources update method parameters. The second group of parameters are all capitalized and they are the fields in my SQL database table (and I don't know how they wound up in the error). This might be a clue.When executing the code my class method never gets the chance to execute because the error pops up before the code gets there.
I am very new to updating the datasource using ObjectDatasource. I have a checkbox on click of update the update method triggers but though teh check box is checked, the value is updated as false.
