I need my Objectdatasource to get filled with one method while at button click event I want to fill it with other overloaded method.
Both the methods have same name and return same data type but they have different input parameters.
I have an objectDataSource to retrieve data and fill a listBox on edit
I created a BLL method to get the data and set the controlId to the detailsVeiw control but the id is not passed throuh to the bll class
this is my code:

I followd Brian Orrell LINQ tutorial for paging/sorting and created a gridview bound to an ObjectDataSource through a method call which gets data from adatabase. My form includes two buttons with a textbox next to each one of them. I need to be able to populatte th egridview depending on the button that was pressed, I cannot figure out how signal my method which button was pressed.

'/CaseExamples' 응용 프로그램에 서버 오류가 있습니다. ==> Server error in application program

I'm using ListView + DataPager + ObjectDataSource mix.
In the implementation of my SelectMethod of an ObjectDataSource I'd like to access a global variable set in the PageLoad() event (the method will return just the proper number of items per page). Although the variable is initialized in PageLoad() it appears to be null in SelectMethod. How can I change that?

Is it possible to access an object that is used by ObjectDataSource to retrieve records? For example,
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="MyDS" runat="server"
SelectMethod="getUsers"
TypeName="DataSources.UserDS"
SelectCountMethod = "getUserNum"/>... </asp:ObjectDataSource>
UserDS class has getUsers that returns DataTable and getUserNum that returns int, this part works as it's supposed. But I wonder if can access the instance of UserDS somehow (not underlying DataTable)?
I'm trying to use an objectdatasource and populate it with a query that has "or" in its where statement. eg: select * from customers where customer_id = "34" or "35" or "36"The problem is... I don't know ahead of time how many of these "or" conditions there will be - the user can choose as many or as few as they want. It seems that if I want to use an objectdatasource tied to a tableadpater I'm forced to know the number of parameters ahead of time so that I can build the objectdatasource's input parameters e.inputparameters.add doesn't work, because the key (in this case "id") is the same for each parameter because the where statment has "or"s....

And my GridView is bound to that objectDataSource
the only problem is that my stored procedure requires the variable @UserName and then returns the values for that username, but I do not know how to pass the variable to the objectDataSource, does anyone know the code for this?
I can get userName from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name but how do I pass that to the objectDataSource?
I am using Visual Studio 2010 for the first time. I program in MS Access for a long time at decide to move to the ASP world. My problem is that I design my first web .aspx default page with a simple data grid. I decided to connect the data via the business object data adapter. I use the Dataset designer to great the dataset. All looks well and works fine on my PC. But when moved to the server I get the Terror "The type specified in the TypeName property of ObjectDataSource not found".
From my reading for the past two days, it seems that something need to be define (a class of some sort) to let ASP know where to find the data adapter. If this is the case, then why did not Visual Studio 2010 did not automatically build the class in the appropriate BIN/ APP_CODE or Global directory and more importantly, why would it work fine on the PC , but not on the server. I am totally blind-sided by Visual Studio 2010 allowing me to design and test on PC but throws me a curl ball with moving to a server. Am I assuming to much from Visual Studio 2010???
What is the solution.. What I am looking for is to know where exactly where and how to write this class. I am so new to ASP, all of my reading just confusing me more and more by reading so many post on this error. I know it is probably a simple class to write somewhere, but why did not Visual Studio 2010 write it accordingly.
Is it possible to pass a domain object as session parameter in an ObjectDataSource. I'm doing this:
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="ParticipantsDataSource" runat="server" OnInit="SqlDataSource_Load"
SelectMethod="LoadParticipants" TypeName="SB.Web.units.Players">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:SessionParameter Name="user" SessionField="User" Type="SB.BusinessLogic.DomainEntity.User" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
But I get the error message that I can't create an object of the type System.TypeCode from the string containing SB.BusinessLogic.DomainEntity.User for the property Type.

The GetList method is as folllowing:

Now i can populate my gridview trough code by this: //gvwDiensten.DataSource = new BindingList<diensten>(dataManager.GetList<diensten>().ToList());But i would like to use an objectdatasource, so i created this:
[Code]....
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
But when running the page i get:
ObjectDataSource 'dsDiensten' could not find a non-generic method 'GetList' that has no parameters.
How I can Pass session parameters to sqlDataSource. I do like this but it is not work:
[Code]....
The session name is :session["EmailAddress"]
We're developing a business ASP.NET application. Is it better to pass an entire entity to a method or pass each property of this entity as parameters? What is the best practice?
Case 1. Pass Customer entity to a manager - InsertCustomer(Customer cust)
Case 2. Pass each property as a parameter - InsertCustomer(string name, string address...etc)
This works great for 1 parameter
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters("City").DefaultValue = Me.Page.Title
But I can't figure out how to pass in two parameters in a single statement (See the Select Parameters Below) Two paremeters (City, and Classification) If I set the page title to say "Bismark Charters" Bismark = City & Charters = Classification
[Code]...
</SelectParameters >
Ive tried a few ways of doing this without success and got together a simplified example so hopefully I can get an answer. When I try to INSERT using a stored procedure InsertTest (normal SQL works OK) I cannot. I need to know how to pass the @Model parameter to the Stored procedure
Have a Stored procedure which can be executed and after entering string for @Model through wizard a new record is created
My asp:SqlDataSource includes InsertCommand="InsertTest" InsertCommandType="StoredProcedure"
Also my <InsertParameters includes the asp:Parameter Name="Model" Type="String"/>
My drop down (and I think this is where the problem is ). Record is Inserted after choosing Model and pressing enter
Do I have to set one of the properties in the drop down to tell the Stored procedure the parameter being passed is the parameter Model ??

I have an insert that uses an object data source with out the direction property set and it works fine. I noticed the direction property though and wondered if I should use it.Should the direction property for the parameters of an object data source be used with a simple CRUD operations?

so here is the setup. I am building a page that has a listview, a datapager, and 3 datapagerfield (2 x NextPreviousPagerField, 1 x NumericPagerField), and a objectdatasource to tide all of this together.
It was all working fine until I put a breakpoint into the SelectMethod specified in the objectdatsource control. It seems like that for each datapagerfield control, it is calling the selectmethod and selectcount method. Hence, whenever a user paged, it calls the database 6 times instead of 2 (I don't have caching turned on atm). If I remove one datapagerfield, it will remove 2 calls.
Now this is build in asp.net 3.5 SP1 in VS2008. When I copied the same code files to a asp.net 4.0 VS2010 solution, it duplicate call seems to be gone.
Is this a bug in asp.net 3.5 SP1?
here is my query which is not working properly. I have 5 fields in my table Company, Reseller, Item, Code, Price. How can i get minimum Price when i pass parameters for Code is dublication value
Company Reseller Item Code Price
A A-1 I1 C1 20
B A-21 I2 C2 13
C A-B I1 C1 19
select Company,Reseller,Item,Code,Min(Price) from Table1 where code='C1' order by Code HOW CAN I GET THIS BELOW TYPE OF RESULT
Company Reseller Item Code Price
A A-1 I1 C1 20
C A-B I1 C1 19
I want to bind an ObjectDataSource to a property in my asp page and I want to do it in the page's aspx code, not in code-behind. I've already done it in code-behind, as follows:
[Code]....
I'd prefer to get rid of the ugly code-behind and just do this in mark-up. Something like
[Code]....
This gives me a run-time error: Cannot create an object of type 'System.Object' from its string representation 'SelectedBook' for the 'DataSource' property.Is there a way of doing this declaratively and not in code-behind? Further, what if what I want is to actually use a child property of the property in question? For example, if my Book object has a ReaderComments collection, can I databind to it decaratively in the aspx mark-up?

Is ther a way I can tie DataSource to SqlDataSource on aspx page and pass select parameters?
I have an ObjectDataSource that I want to perform updates using a business entity i.e. Type="Object"). Since the values for the entity are within a user control, I have stored a reference to the control in Session and in the updating event, set the new instance to the value of the entity from the user contol property (which also pulls values from the form viaother properties of the control):
Protected Sub MasterDataSource_Updating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ObjectDataSourceMethodEventArgs) Handles MasterDataSource.Updating
Dim entity As New Login()
Dim accountControl As AccountInfo = TryCast(Session("AccountCtrl"), AccountInfo)
entity = accountControl.Entity
e.InputParameters.Add("entity", entity)
End Sub
And here's the markup for the datasource:
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="MasterDataSource" runat="server" EnableCaching="true" CacheDuration="10"
SelectMethod="SelectAll" UpdateMethod="Update" TypeName="Data.DAL.LoginDAL">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
My question is, how can I get the update method to pass this entity to the update method in my BLL class? It seems the Update method requires an ID or reference to the original object to use in determining whether any changes have taken place, but I don't really want to do this. In other words, I just want to use the Update event on my ObjectDataSource to pass my entity to the method ("Update") I set as a property and then let this business method handle the update of the data. Shown below, is the BLL update method I want to call:
Public Overloads Function Update(ByVal entity As Login)
If entity Is Nothing Then
Throw New ArgumentNullException("entity")
End If
MyBase.Update("UpdateLogin", entity.Username, entity.Password, entity.FirstName, entity.LastName, entity.Role, entity.Region, _
entity.Email, entity.Title, entity.TierID, entity.Street, entity.City, entity.State, entity.Zip, entity.Mobile, entity.Phone, entity.Fax)
End Function
When I try to call this as it stands now, I get an error: ObjectDataSource 'MasterDataSource' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: ID, entity. Previously, I'd set up a long list of parameters of basic data types (string, int, boolean), but this is rather cumbersome and I was hoping to use an entity for this (FYI, I also got the same type of error when I tried this approach, but with the ID as the
last parameter in the list). Perhaps what I'm doing here is atypical to how the ODS is normally used?? Has anyone done something like this successfully?
I want to do pagination in repeater control.
I am using repeater.Datasource = objectDataSource.
and objectdatasource is having generic list data.
When i try to cast objectdatasource to dataview ...i am getting exception saying "casting
Collections Generic List cannot be casted to Dataview".
Can anyone tell me easy way to do Repeater Pagination in the above mentioned case
