i am using sql express 08 & sql management studio exp 08. I tried to clone a database from another but an error occured. My steps:
[newDatabase] >> right click >> tasks >> restore >> databaseOn general section: from database = [databaseSource] >> backup sets: all checked
On options section: overwrite existing database: checked, recovery state: restore with recoveryClick [ OK ] button The error:
Restore failed for 'MyServerSQLEXPRESS'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)
Additional information:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The file 'x:.........databaseSource.mdf' cannot be overwritten. It is being used by database 'databaseSource'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
And why sql management studio tried to overwrite the dataSource (not newDatabase)? how to clone a database? I also tried backup databaseSource to file and then restore newDatabase from the file but resulting the same error.

How do you import database diagram at SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE)? Using SSMSE in checking my database through a shared server, the "Database Diagrams" folder has no import functionality.

My hosting company provider MS SQL Express as part of my hosting package, they have provided me with both the name and IP address of the server running MS SQL Express.
I have created a database on this server via management studio and when I create a connection string like this (connectionString="Data Source=ServerName/IP;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxx;Password=xxx") my application works fine.
But if I create a local database file and try to attach this with a connection string like this (connectionString="Data SourceServerName/IP; AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance = True ; Trusted_Connection=Yes) my application doesn't work.
Therefore my questions are:-
Is there something wrong with my connection string? Can you use a local database file within a production environment?

I have a "simple" method that takes a Linq entity containing the information I want to update. The method then creates a list of counties the information is to be updated for, and tries to update the information for each county.
So user goes in fills form out selects update All counties, and the information in the form should be updated for all the counties for the member. Here is the code.
[Code]....
The first pass through the foreach runs perfectly, the second time through I get an error: Cannot attach an entity that already exists.
What is best way to work around this?
I have though about putting the foreach loop in my business_logic layer, and have it pass both the newRecord and OldRecord, but figured I would ask, before making the code change.

I am writing a search results page for an airline booking system. I have Next/Previous buttons to view flights for the next or previous days. The way i have done my results grid is that i use an HtmlTable and dynamically add rows, cells and controls into the cells. This gives ultimate flexibility given that we can add any control type we want and have it function as it does everywhere else in the system. As you should be aware - i must recreate these controls each time the page is reloaded (in the page_init event) since asp does not handle this automatically.
When they go next/previous it refreshes the flight data and re-populates the grids. If they select a flight in the return grid (by checking the RadioButton), and go next on the FIRST leg grid, the selection of the return leg stays the same after the postback
- which is great. But the problem is, if the flight they selected on the return leg is no longer available it will not create the control and i get the following error;
"Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request."
Is there any way to tell asp.net that if you do not find the control anymore, simply ignore it rather than throwing the error? The nature of this design is that there potentioally WILL be a different layout after the page is posted back.

I am writing a page for creating a new user for a website. After the user fills out the form and click the "Create User" button, the information provided is supposed to be sent for storage to the database. I have been getting the same error message for a couple of days now and I've ran out of things to try. The message doesn't seem like a complicated issue, in fact it's quite common and found a great deal of information on how to resolve it. However, nothing I've tried works. I'm using VS 2010, and SQL Server Express 2005. The message I get is the following:Cannot open database "[database]" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user "[MACHINE_NAMEUSER]".I have added my current Windows account to the Users folder under the Security folder through Management Studio and granted it all the role memberships. I'm also using Windows authentication. If there's any information I'm not providing to figure out what's the issue, let me know and I'll post it.Stack Trace:

I read you can set matching keys in web.config files across a cluster.
But does it have to match across all the seperate apps on the cluster or is it in pairs?
IE... app1 on both clustered servers match or all apps on both servers have the same key?

I have just installed SQL Server 2005 on windows7. It was installed successfully. When I tried to open SSMS it became faild. It gives me SQL Server Error :18456 Login Failed. How can i find what server name I put to login? Because when It prompt me to login, in server combo box it shows me only <browse for server> option and it doesn't show me any option to select server. I put the default John-PCJOhn it gives me an error. I uninstall it two times and installed it again but every time it gives me same error. It was working fine before formating my laptop. Please give me a solution to login in to SSMS.
