DataSource Controls :: Storing And Comparing Images In SQL Server 2008
Apr 10, 2010
I am trying to build a small e-commerce website that will allow user to upload and store the image of their product in the database and also the user could upload the image of the product and compare it with all the similar product images that are already stored in the database. I am using MS ASP.Net using VB.Net as the front end.
if MS SQL server is the best option to carry out such task or should I consider some other database to do this in terms of complexity involved as well as the integration with MS .Net framework.
Since these table are on two different boxes and 2 different versions, I am getting error message that tables cant be compared because they have different schema's.Schema's are the same but they are on different machines and different servers. What is a work around it?
i am trying to compare four columns in two tables(both are in the same schema), table a has two columns for firstname and last name , table b has similar columns firstname and last name, i wish to compare both and if there are similarities, do nothing but if there are differencies, export or write them to a exception or error table.. not quite sure what if statement i should write or how to go about this.
I am designing an prototyping an app the needs to store images, similar to facebook. This will be a public facing site and I am not sure how many users I will end up with but what I am looking for is a way to efficiently retrieve them.
So far I am thinking of storing them in SQL Server varbinary columns. I have the upload code and the storage code for that. My concern is retrieving them. I can retireve and build the image tag on the fly but I am worried about having to hit the database for each one.
I have been thinking about getting all images for a user and caching them in the asp.net cache for 10 to 30 seconds. I have never had to do something like this so I would be interested in hearing a few different approaches. Obviously the images can vary in size and I was thinking about defining a size limit, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
how to upload images to server(application/images folder) and retrive(display) from and on client PC for asp.net. its just for uplaoding logo directly to server folder and retriving from server to client. i am not getting server path on client pc for image.
I am storing image (jpeg) files into SQL server 2005 using MS Access Forms. When I try to read and render it on a webpage using ASP.net and C# code behind, it could not read it.
But if I write the image to SQL server using ASP.NET C# and then read it back using ASP.NET C#, it render the image just fine in the browser.
Does anyone know if Access write the blob is difference than ASP.NET write the blob into SQL server? I am using the same varbinary as my column in the database.
I am a new-bie in Asp.Net.I am working in a project where I need to store an attachment which will be uploaded by the user in radGrid into Sql server 2005 database.After storing this attachment, I have to retrieve this attcahment and show the same to the other users in radGrid so that they will be able to download the attachment and see that.How should I do that?what kind of datatype would it be?
is there any difference between sql express and sql client. Actually I have been told to install a sql client using which i will connect to the sql server installed remotely. Also I have sql express edition 2008 installed on my machine. So is it the same. Will I be able to connect to the sql server using the sql server express edition.?
I've looked all over the web for something that would show me how to do this but can't find it. I have a page that uploads information about an individual including a resume in the form of a doc docx or pdf. I can upload the file okay but I do not know how to, on another page, To download the file that was loaded to that person's row in the database. Here is the upload code
When i tried to attach 2008 database in sql server 2008 it is throwing the error-
"The database 'actitle' cannot be opened because it is version 655. This server supports version 611 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.Could not open new database 'actitle'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 948)"
When i execute 'select @@version' it gives 'Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Workgroup Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) 'How the version still be 2005 when im in 2008 ..How can i attach my 2008 database back up.
I am facing a problem with retrieving an image and showing it on asp.net grid. I migrated MS Access database to sql server. Image are visible in Crystal report when fetched from the same database (migrated sql server database). But same images are not visible in ASP.Net grid view or simple asp.net image control. Following is my code
SqlConnection oConn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["csr"].ToString()); oConn.Open(); SqlCommand oraCmd = oConn.CreateCommand(); oraCmd.CommandText = "select top 1 photo from [test] where photo is not null"; SqlDataReader dr = null; dr = oraCmd .ExecuteReader (); if(dr.Read ()) if (dr["photo"] != null) { Response.ContentType = "image/gif"; Response.BinaryWrite((byte[])dr["photo"]); }
This function is getting called from another page . "hlopen" is hyper link in the grid. hlopen.NavigateUrl = "GetPhoto.aspx?id=1";
Previous developers have developed a .SSISDeploymentManifest file (SQL Server 2005) to install SSIS packages which prompts a Package Installation wizard. I tried to install it on SQL Sever 2008 (it works on SQL Server 2005), but it failed with the error: "Storing or modifying packages in SQL Server requires the SSIS runtime and database to be the same version. Storing packages in earlier versions is not supported".
How do I install 2005 SSIS packages on SQL Server 2008? I have all the .dtsx files, not sure how to install them?
I have 5 GB data, when I move from SQL server 2000 to 2008 with Import and Export wizard, my LDF size is increased to 30 GB, Can I reduce my LDF file or move. In my one of the table contain around 20 Lakh data which i have normalized in 2008 and create 4 tables, so my data is entering in normalized form in 2008. But due to size by hard disk is full. I have used shrnik command but it reduce to only 1 GB.
I have SQL Server Standard 2008 installed on my machine, alongside Visual Studio 2008.
My current hosting provider (not a huge fan) requires me to access my db's remotely via SQL Server Management Utility. To date, I've been doing it by connecting remotely in VS2008. Their troubleshooting documentation/steps, though, are for the SQL Server Management Express 2008, and i'm having a lot of connectivity issues with them.
I followed the steps here: [URL] to "add additional features to an existing installation" - but when I did so, the setup wizard indicated that the Management Tools-Basic were already installed.
The sites that I've got are still in classic ASP. I know this is a good reason to move to .net but I don't want to have to redo all the sites yet.
So here is the problem:
[Code]....
When I have "On Error Resume Next" no erros get posted and everything runs just fine, the pulls from the database work perfectly. But as soon as we take On error resume next we start getting the following erros: err#424err desc:Object requiredsql:SELECT Name,URL,Title FROM tblMenu WHERE Parent_ID=1 AND Deleted=0 ORDER BY SortOrderScript Name: /index2.asp
How can I compare the data using ADO.NET. I have wrote the following code but don't know what to do next Code: Sub LoginCheck() Dim Conn As OleDbConnection Dim DbCmd As OleDbCommand Dim SqlCmd As String Dim DbRead As OleDbDataReader Dim MyDbPath As String MyDbPath = "C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008WebSitesHwManApp_Data/hwMan.mdb" Conn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;data source=" & MyDbPath) Conn.Open() SqlCmd = "Select * from UserInfo where UserId='" & txtUserName.Text & "' and UserPass='" & txtPassword.Text & "'" DbCmd = New OleDbCommand(SqlCmd, Conn) End Sub
I have a form that contains a text box called "MyDate" in which the user enters a date. I have a table that contains records of which one of the fields in the record is a date field named "DateAvailable" (type is "datetime"). I want to compare the data in the text box to the "DateAvailable" field in record. How do I define my text box as a "datetime" field.
I am looking at installing SQL Server 2008 R2 and am curios as to how much of a difference I should expect with it installed on a 32 bit machine vs a 64 bit machine. I have a number of high performance 32 bit machines that aren't being used for anything, and so I assume that I could simply install Windows XP Pro 32 bit on one and sqlServer2008 R2 32 bit and have an inexpensive solution. What kind of degradation in performance should I expect.
