C# - Downloading A File After Storing It In SQL Server 2008 Database?
Mar 19, 2011
WEB FRAMEWORK: ASP.NET in C#
I've looked all over the web for something that would show me how to do this but can't find it. I have a page that uploads information about an individual including a resume in the form of a doc docx or pdf. I can upload the file okay but I do not know how to, on another page, To download the file that was loaded to that person's row in the database. Here is the upload code
I am newbie in SQL Server 2008 R2. I able to created table within it but how do I get the database file. Can I specify the path where the database is create?
I am trying to build a small e-commerce website that will allow user to upload and store the image of their product in the database and also the user could upload the image of the product and compare it with all the similar product images that are already stored in the database. I am using MS ASP.Net using VB.Net as the front end.
if MS SQL server is the best option to carry out such task or should I consider some other database to do this in terms of complexity involved as well as the integration with MS .Net framework.
CreateDirectoryIfDoesNotExist(); WebClient webClient = new WebClient(); [code]...
When i deploy it on the server; and run my program, i get a message saying that download has completed successfully. But the problem is that the file is downloaded on the server machine in the filefolder (LocalFileFolder). I want it to be downloaded on the local machine. What is it that I am doing wrong?
I am currently developing an ASP.net application, where I generate a word document in server and I want to save it in client machine who access that feature with out user interactions. How can I download it and save it in client machine, using javascript?
When I'm trying to download a 50 MB file from a database (it is not an issue with a smaller file size), it stops in the middle sometimes and resumes again after a long time.
I usually use WebMatrix to manage my database (sdf file). I wonder if it can be possible to manage this database with SQL Management Studio 2008? When I try to open it with SQL Management Studio 2008 I get the error:
Incompatible database version. What's wrong?
BUT When I create a new sdf database with SQL Management Studio 2008, I have no problem for open it again with SQL Management Studio 2008 but if I try to open it with WebMatrix it doesn't work...(server not found?)
I'm having a bit of an issue uploading files to a database. I'll post snippets of my code below.
The table i'm uploading to has the following structure:
[Code]....
I can upload the file using my MVC application without any errors, however in the database the file stores in CoverFileContent as "0x0000000000000000......". All the other information relating to the file, e.g. MimeType, FileName, CoverID, etc uploads correctly. I took a wild guess that this wasn't correct so I downloaded the file (created a .net MVC file downloader). It seemed to download as the correct type of file, however I when I tried to open it, it told me I could not open it. I'll post some snippets of my code so people can see what I'm doing.
CoverController
[Code]....
CreateCover.aspx
[Code]....
I have inserted breakpoints to debug the code, however coming from more of a business background I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for. It seems that the array is being populated with 00000000s so I'm thinking this is a problem regarding the intake of the file.
[URL] This is the tutorial I was originally following, which I got to work perfectly. However when I rewrote it to suit my own needs (using ado.net, etc) this problem seemed to occur.
i have been trying to solve this for hours with no luck. i seem to be missing something fundamental.
i have a remote FTP server with a file called log.txt on it, i wish to allow web users to download this file to their local drive to a designated folder.
i have a function calling this sub i found on the web with the filename to download.when trying to run this code i get this error:
" Could not find a part of the path 'C: empFtpDownloadsFolderlog.txt'. "
[Code]....
if i replace this line:
[Code]....
i get no error but the file is not in the TempPath. (it shows it to be saved to "C:WindowsTEMPlog.txt" )
i have a feeling its being save on the server instead of my local drive.
I am downloading file from remote server in page load using content disposition. After downloading the file i am trying show some other controls in the page. But that controls are showing asp.net .
i want to upload multiple files through file upload or file control at the same time i want to privew that file and also its size and description, only one click on browse file these above tasks must performed, and i can upload multiple files type like pdf, doc, zip and in last i want to store those all files in database binary or any any other data type which is reliable for storing such data. can any one tel me that how can i do this.
Have a question about the best approach for file storage in a SQL database. I have a table called Widgets, and each row in the Widgets table can have multiple files. I also have another table called Extensions, and again each record in this table can have many files.
Here is what I am considering:
Approach #1:
[Code]....
That approach is very simple and easy to use, but I feel that I could merge the two file tables into one, then use lookup tables:
Approach #2:
[Code]....
The thing is, there are no duplicate or shared files between the two types of objects. So even though I feel better about approach #2, I am concerned that I may be adding additional complexity (and using more server resources to perform the joins), than needed.
i have some problem on downloading file which file types are .doc, .docx and .pdf.
I have wrote the code for downloading when the button is click. the button can download these three types of file when click.
[Code]....
But, i have some weird condition. when i test in my local pc using the firefox, the downloading box popup with the file type detected. but when i upload the code files in live server and test the download button using firefox, the downloading popup but it cannot detect the file type.
therefore, i can proceed the download process using the firefox but i failed to open the files coz it dun have the file type.
I am working on the application that allows user to upload a file (from their local machine) and store the uploaded file in database. Then, the content of the file (such as ContentType,FileSize etc)can be view in a DetailsView control.

I have a list of points and I want to make a line from them.
I found one example for using STLineFromText but it is for concrete values. For example:
[Code]....
Now how can I iterate through all the points I have and form a line, so I don't want to write exact values like -122.360 47.656 but to take them from the list?
