I am attempting to write my very first ASP.NET application, it will simply display the contents of an SQL server database table in a Gridview. This is just a first step, my eventual intention is rewrite a set of VB6 applications I wrote some years ago. But I need to walk before I can run.
I have already created an SQL Server database containing all the tables used by the VB6 applications.
How do I link this database to my ASP.NET application. Previously (on another computer) I have simply opened "My Computer" and then navigated to the .mdf file (e.g. northwnd.mdf) and then dragged and dropped it into App_Data in Visual Studio. However when I try that on my own machine, with my own data, I get an "Access Denied" message.
How can I not have access to my own data on my own computer? What am doing wrong?
I am running Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine, with SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (or which ever one installs with VS 2008).

For example if I have a Table A on server 1 and Table B on a different server. How would I join the two tables together, if they each have a column named "PonyId"

I started a new Sql Server 2008 with mixed authentication Windows and SQL SERVER AUTh... I created a new login account and use it to directly connect in SQL server managment studio BUT... when i create in VS2008 the connectionstring... everytime i try to open the DB connection i take an exception to the login... some screenshots show all the process ;)
LOGIN: admintvmaismais
PASSWORD: ex
Working to connect in SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT...
LOGIN STATUS ON SQL SERVER MANAGEMENTE
Now in VS2008 Web-Config I declare the connectionstring:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="SqlConnectionString" connectionString="Server=JP;Database=tvmaismais;User ID=admintvmaismais;Password=ex;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
and When i try to open a connection like this:
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SqlConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
try
{
conn.Open();
...
}
catch (Exception e)
{
retorno = e.Message.ToString();
}
finally
{
if (conn.State == ConnectionState.Open)
conn.Close();
conn.Dispose();
}
I get this exception: Cannot open database "tvmaismais" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'admintvmaismais'. What am I missing? What do i need to do, to get this login to work?

i granted ASP.NET account the sql server database access but ASP.NET seems not able to coonect to the database. I normally do this from code in windows XP, but its not working on my windows seven. i guess it should be something close to NT AUTHORITY in place of the MACHINE/ASPNET account which i have tried anyway but still not working.

I created and populated a database inside Visual Studio 2008 instead of using Management Studio.I need to run the script to create the schema for users and roles.The database does not show up in ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard or in Management StudioThe only databases that do show up are master, model, msdb, and tempdb
Is there anything I can do to fix this or would it be easier for me to just create a new database starting in Management Studio and then connect to it from within Visual Studio?

I'm trying to access an SQL Server Express database out of an ASP.NET HTTP request handler. The handler is run under ASPNET account and uses "integrated security" in the SQL connection string and so I get an error message saying that login for ASPNET account failed and so I can't access the database. This seems to be a very common problem and most answers say "grant access to you database to user ASPNET".
I only have Visual Studio 2008 and I can't find how to change access permisssions for a database. Specifically I use Tools->Server Explorer and I can see all the tables in the database but can't find how to change access permissions. How do I change access permissions to my database using tools shipped within Visual Studio 2008?

I have a situation where I am accessing a database multiple times and I'm wondering if it is necessary.
I have a GridView with a template column with a hyperlink to "Get Results" and on the RowDataBound event I have it check the batch number against the database and see if results exist and then if they don't, hide the link.
So when viewing the page if there is 20 rows in the gridview it is effectively doing 20 queries.
I was wondering if it is a better idea to query the database once with all "batches" and load it into a datatable, then on the RowDataBound event query the datatable. The only issue I see with this is there is currently 40,000 batches and grows daily.

I'm trying to grant permissions to the extended SP xp_prop_oledb_provider in the master DB of my SS 2008 instance but, though I'm an admin on the server, I can't see it in SSMS and it throws an error that says that either the SP doesn't exist or that I don't have permissions to acess it when I run the SQL command aqainst it. Does xp_prop_oledb_provider exist on SS 2008 and, if so, what might be my problem in not seeing it and/or not being able to run sql against it?

We need to secure how our web application access our SQL 2008 database on our hosted server. Any pointers where this is covered in detail? We have the following questions:1. right now the network service account runs the application pool containing our application in IIS. Should we define a local windows user account to run this application in IIS 6? Should we switch to Windows authentication?

I have written a website in ASP.NET with a back-end database using SQL Express 2008. My database is created and put in the App_Data folder. It is ok when it runs on my local machine. However, when I upload to the web server, I got the error: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and ettingsDesktopProject2_ISAM5337App_DataEvent.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. By the way, I notice a same probelm : When I move my project to a location which is different from specific path for my database, I got the same error message .

Migrating SSIS package from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008
View 1 Replies
Feb 25, 2010
Previous developers have developed a .SSISDeploymentManifest file (SQL Server 2005) to install SSIS packages which prompts a Package Installation wizard. I tried to install it on SQL Sever 2008 (it works on SQL Server 2005), but it failed with the error: "Storing or modifying packages in SQL Server requires the SSIS runtime and database to be the same version. Storing packages in earlier versions is not supported".
How do I install 2005 SSIS packages on SQL Server 2008? I have all the .dtsx files, not sure how to install them?
