Is it better to store images directly in a database or to just store the name of the file in the db and display that file? I would think that just storing the filename of the image would keep the db size low...

DataSource Controls :: Store Data From XML File To Table In Database?

May 14, 2010

I am trying to store data from an XML file to a table in my database, but I keep getting the same error.

This is my code from the cs file:

[Code]....

And this is my error:

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Areas'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Areas'.

The statement has been terminated.

In my XML file I have both existing rows and new rows for the database table. I'm guessing I have to do something to sort out the the rows that are not already in the database, but so far I have been unsuccessful to figure this out.

DataSource Controls :: Select Multiple Products With Images?

Jun 1, 2010

the best way to achieve the following:A products table linked to an images table where 1 product can have many images.Simple scenario is to select a product and its images using

select * from products where id=5
select * from images where pid =5

So far so good, its easily mapped to an object once the query has executed with ado.net.

what if i want to select all products and their related images and map them to a Product object, the result is as follows

SELECT * FROM PRODUCTS JOIN IMAGES ON ID=PID

Now the table I get is:

ID PRODUCTNAME IMAGEURL

1 COMPUTER IMAGE1.JPG
2 COMPUTER IMAGE2.JPG
3 COMPUTER IMAGE3.JPG

I would need to do some work in c# to keep track of id and get images until the id changes, if you get what I mean.

I want a way that I can execute a single query like the one above, or modifed version and make it easier to map the result to my objects.

Something like, loop products, map products to product object, loop images map images to products.images

DataSource Controls :: How To Create The Pivot Table To Search The Table

Feb 26, 2010

I'm assuming I need to use a pivot table from what I've found so far. However, every one that I've seen has not had the date setup like I have.

I have a Gridview on my page which I need to be populated like so

Date NCMR

1/1/10-1/31/10 #

2/1/10-2/28/10 #

I want to do this for 10 months... bottom record being the current month (or last month). I would also like the Date to format to January 2010 I used the above date format because that is how it is in the table. Basically, I need to know how to create the pivot table to search the table for 1/*/10, 2/*/10, etc

DataSource Controls :: Multiple Values Into The Same Table?

Feb 6, 2010

I am creating an online employment application, and instead of creating a table with 20 columns for job duties that may or may not receive values, I simply want to create 3 columns

ApplicantID
EmployerName (Name of Work history Employer)
JobDuty

I want to create a form on a page with 10 textboxes so the applicant can type in some job duties they had at that job.

Is there a way in C# or SQL to then cycle through and insert the textbox values as separate rows?

DataSource Controls :: SQL Create New Table?

Jun 27, 2010

I have ASP.NET enviroment (C#) with SQL 2008 backend. I am using the ASP.NET membership provider. I need to create a table that contains member name, member role and third coumn (called "Registered for Conference"). I am using a button to initiate the action to call a stored procedure to write the selected value in the "Registered for Conference" column for the respective member.I know how to write the stored procedure, how to determine which user has processed their selection and how to write it to the "Registered for Conference" column of the table.I know that I can pull member name and member role with the following statement.

SELECT dbo.aspnet_Users.UserName, dbo.aspnet_Roles.RoleName
FROM dbo.aspnet_Roles INNER JOIN
dbo.aspnet_UsersInRoles ON dbo.aspnet_Roles.RoleId = dbo.aspnet_UsersInRoles.RoleId INNER JOIN
dbo.aspnet_Users ON dbo.aspnet_UsersInRoles.UserId = dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId

I need to understand how to create the table that will contain the member name, member role and third coumn (called "Registered for Conference"). This table cannot be a static table. In other words, this table needs to refect any updates to roles or members

DataSource Controls :: Searching Table With Multiple Criteria?

Apr 15, 2010

I want to select data from a table where the user can search by 3 options; date, keyword, and type. The date will always be either today or a user chosen date. The keyword can be null or something the user inputs. The type will be chosen from a drop down and can be all or a specific category. I know how to search the date, but the other two create complications. I have created a stored procedure trying to figure this out:

[Code]....

Is there a way to say if the keyword is null then don't use it as a search criteria. If that is possible then type can use that same logic I suppose.

DataSource Controls :: Update Multiple Rows In Directory Table?

I'm trying to figure out how to update multiple rows in my Directory table, when a user changes their Street Number or Street Name in their profile. They can add multiple users to a directory and each user they add to the directory has this primary users UserId in it. So if the primary user changes their address, I want it to update the address for all the users they listed in the directory as well. I'm adding this to the On_Click in the Code Behind, so when they click to update their profile, it fires this function as well. This code may be way off, but here's what I have right now:
