DataSource Controls :: How To Create A Schema.ini File From A Tab Delimited File

Sep 13, 2010

How do I create a schema.ini file from a tab delimited file?

I have this so far:

[myFile.txt]
ColNameHeader=True
Format=TabDelimited
CharacterSet=ANSI

I think I need something like this after my last line from above:

Col1=first TEXT width 150

My text file has 7 columns, the first row is the header row. The data comes from a Micosoft SQL Server Database where the fields are of the following types:

int
nvarchar(MAX)
nvarchar(50)

C# - Create An XML File Using Datasets Using Info From XML Schema

Mar 22, 2010

I have been thinking about the optimal way to create an XML file using data from a Dataset AND according to the rules of an XML schema. I've been searching around for a bit, and I failed to find a way in which I only take the data from the Dataset and put it inside a XML tags, with the tags being defined by an already-existing schema. So it might go like this:

1- Create Dataset and fill its rows with data.
2- Create an XML according to an XML schema rules.
3- Fill said XML file with data from Dataset such that data is taken from the Dataset while structure of the XML file is taken from the XML schema.

C# - How To Cause A Browser To Open A Tab Delimited Txt File In Excel

Mar 18, 2011

We have a tab delimited file that we are making available for download. The file extension is txt, but the users want it to open automatically in Excel. The previous developer had used the following code:

[code]....

The ContentType is being set to Excel, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. I am guessing the txt file extension is causing it to be picked up by notepad or the like instead. I have tried just renaming it to a xls extension, which works but Excel complains that I am trying to trick it or it might be a corrupted file.

Best Method To Attach Or Import Data From A Comma Delimited File To Access?

Nov 15, 2010

I have a project I am working that requires me to go to an FTP port and copy a file to the local machine... so far so good... the next step is to take the comma delimited file and import the records (rows) into a local Access database...

Should I be looking the Attach method in Access? To attach and dump all the data in one shot?

OR To open the file with StremRead and process each row one at a time?

I am using VS2008, C#, .NET 3.5, Access 2007... once in production there could 20 - 30 thousand records to be appended to the DB then normalised.

Adding Control Tags To An XML Schema File?

Feb 3, 2011

I have an xsd that describes XHTML documents. However the application I'm working with may have some selected asp.net controls within to the markup at the point is validated. Therefore the validation fails.

An example control could be:

<smart:Address runat="server" />

I wanted to add a new element to the xsd file but when I specify:

<xs:element name="smart:Address">

I get validation errors as an element name must not have a colon in it.

how I might be able to extend the schema file to allow selected server controls?

Jul 25, 2010

I have an asp.net application. I want to add a global.asax and global.asax.cs file to my project. In the IDE when I select to create a new global.asax file, the option to create a CS code behind file is greyed out. When the global.asax file is created, no code behind is created, instead code is placed in the global.asax file and the global.asax.cs file is never created? Why is the option for a C# code behind file greyed out?

C# - File.Create Is Appending To The File Rather Than Overwriting It?

Jul 19, 2010

I have the following code for creating a file if it does not exist and overwriting it if it already exists:

FileStream fsExe = File.Create(DestExePath, 4096);
BinaryWriter bw = new BinaryWriter(fsExe);

What ever I write to the BinaryWriter, it is getting appended to the "DestExePath" instead of overwriting the original file.

C# - System.IO.File.Create Locking A File?

Jan 13, 2011

I'm using System.IO.File.Create to create a file. I'm not writting to it with a stream writer, just creating it.

I get a server error in the front end when the app trys to open the newly created file - that the file is in use. Garbage collection then seems to come along and a few minutes later all is OK.

Now I know if I was using Streamwriter I would have to close it. Does the same apply to creating?

I've read that opening a stream writer to the file then immediately closing it will fix this.

DataSource Controls :: Schema And Data Compare

Feb 24, 2010

I already may have access to the solution i am after but cant find a way to keep the data and schema the same during deployment, ie development server SQL database to be the same thing as what i put on the sql server host during the deployment of the web application

i was using Quest Rocket compare to sync data and schema, it worked fine but they dropped that project with the intro by MS of VS08, ie the Quest plug-in works in VS05 but not in VS08 anyway, i probably have the solution I am after at my disposal due to my MSDN subscription which includes SQL server products, but my first problem there, is that i cant identify which MS tool to download and to use that will do the same thing or better than the Quest Rocket compare product,

i believe the solution i need is the full version of SQL Management Studio (which i think i have due to my MSDN subsctiption but my second problem 2) is i cant find in that full studio download in my MSDN subscriber area) also is it only the full verison of SQL Mgt studio and not the Express version that might have the "sync" capabiltiy, is that correct? or is there a way (I am a intemediate on SQL techonologies), within the Express Management Studio to painlessly sync both the schema and the data? I am using VS08 Pro, so mayber there is a way in the VSIDE to do the syncing, I think i tried the Publisher but ran into difficulties, am going to try that again and repost here what those difficulties were,

SO really just after a nice tool or utility that will keep SQL database schema and data the same during the deployment process for the web application i build, kinda urgent to as am buried and dont have time to breath.
