I have been able to successfully read a row of data from an SQL table using two column parameters. Now I would like to update this row with new information. Is this possible since the reader does not specify which row was read with the 'reader.Read();' command?

CDC or Change data capture is a new feature in SQL Server 2008, which is an ability to record changes to table data into another table without writing triggers or some other mechanism, Change data capture records the changes like insert, update, and delete to a table in SQL server.I have sql 2005 and I have created triggers and tables CDC to capture the data. everything functions good and the data is being updated in the _CDC tables. all i need to do now is to generate the updated data as a report (excel/html)- what should I do ......?i need to show only the updated columns when user selects the date periods ( Range between dates ) and the person name - i need to display any updated info about that person during that period. So this updated columns about this person should be displayed in excel formatted column wise.

I'm using the 'Configure Data Source' wizard to connect to my database and show the dataset in Gridview. I want to be able to update, insert and delete entries but am unsure how to build the query. I can write simple update statments to change database entries but how can I do this for entries that have been changed within the gridview?

I am trying to use SqlDependencyCache buthave come across a problem that I wouldn't have thought was unique. We have a InformationDatabase which uses a combination of its own tables and views to other databases on the same server. One of these views points to our HRDataWarehouse database. My stored procedure obviously uses this view to get its information but because the table change is happening on the HRDataWarehouse table the notification is not being sent to my app and as a consequence the cache is not removed.
Is there a tidy way of doing this or do I need to create a trigger to update a table in my informationdatabase and then have a listener on this with a removecache callback delegate added to the cache object?

I am counting from a table for that i have written code as below
protected void get_Id_Afterpoint()
{
int counter = 0;
string strSql = "select count(*) as ID from tblEnergy where ID=?";
OdbcCommand com = new OdbcCommand(strSql, con);
com.Parameters.AddWithValue("ID", DropDownList1.SelectedValue);
OdbcDataAdapter oda = new OdbcDataAdapter(com);
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
oda.Fill(dt);
if (dt.Rows.Count == 0)
{
lblID2.Text = "1";
}
else
{
counter = dt.Rows.Count;
counter = counter + 1;
lblID2.Text = Convert.ToString(counter);
}
}
there is no record related to DropDownList1.SelectedValue. but as i am counting if(dt.rows.count) and i put break point on the bolded part it shows 1 record. how it can be possible?

Conseptually what I'm doing is simple, and technically it may even be simple, but I'm still rusty. Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have a webform that allows the user to enter a new record, and in there I have also included a couple FileUpload controls. Upon clicking the "Save" button, I'm saving the details entered into one table (ITEMS), and also inserting the FileUpload details (path, id, upload_user) into another table ATTACHMNTS). Because one ITEM can have many attachments, I needed to split the tables up. So on save, I need to save the ITEM, save the ATTACHMENT, and then also put the ITEM_ID in the ATTACHMENT table. I'm second guessing myself because I think all I'd have to do is after I do the ITEM insert, do a SELECT MAX on the ITEM table and hold the newest (MAX) id in a variable and then use it in the ATTACHMENTS update. I'm not 100% on this because there IS a chance that someone else could save a few milliseconds later and I'll link the wrong ITEM. See my delima?

I am trying to use the TableApapterManager.UpdateAll to insert values to master and child table. I had set the relation to cascade for update in the dataset and the HierarchicalUpdate to true. But stil when I run TableApapterManager.UpdateAll(dataset), I get a foriegn key violation error. Following is the code I used:
int ID;
DAL.Datasets.dsMembers.MembersRow rwMem = m_dsMembers.Members.NewMembersRow();
rwMem.u_name = mem.Name;
m_dsMembers.Members.AddMembersRow(rwMem);
DAL.Datasets.dsMembers.MemPhonesRow rwmemphn = null;
rwmemphn = m_dsMembers.MemPhones.NewMemPhonesRow();
rwmemphn.u_memberid = ID;
rwmemphn.u_phn = "test";
m_dsMembers.MemPhones.AddMemPhonesRow(rwmemphn);
m_adpMgr.UpdateAll(m_dsMembers);
return ID;
The error I get is "The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_MemPhones_Members". The conflict occurred in database "Family", table "dbo.Members", column 'i_memeberid'.
The statement has been terminated."

I find myself needing to preform the same actions on both HtmlControls and WebControls. I am a firm believer in DRY and find the fact that there is only the Control class to use if I want to consolidate the functions on both types. The problem that I have with using Control is that there certain properties that both HtmlControl and WebControl expose that Control does not. In the current case, the Attributes property is the problem. how to avoid the duplication of code in this type of instance?

I have 3 pages, one to add a category, one to edit the category, and one to delete the category. The add and edit work fine. The delete is not working for some reason. I click the link on my site to delete it, and I'm just staring at the green bar in my browser taking a long time. The add and edit don't take long at all to perform their function. I'm thinking this is a connection string issue, but I don't see how it can be the case. It relies on web.config for it just like the other pages. Following is the delete page code behind and also delete cascade from the business logic area. After the page refreshes, I'm not getting any diagnostics or error messages which I have in the code. Doesn't this have to mean a db connection issue?
