Forms Data Controls :: Datasource Update / Delete Queries For Gridview - Can't Edit

Dec 7, 2010

I have a gridview that pulls data from two tables, CLIENT and PAYMENT. I want to add the edit, delete functions to the gridview for the payment portion of the table, that is to edit or delete the payments but not the client. I've manually enabled the edit, delete functions and input the queries. I've also deleted the textboxes from the templates which draw from the CLIENT table so they cannot be edited. Everything looks good on the surface until I actually go to edit or delete anything, and it has no effect. Here's the structure of the two tables:

CLIENT PAYMENT
ClientID Pk PaymentNumber Pk
FName CLIENT$ClientID Fk
LName PaymentDate
ContactNo NULL PaymentAmount
ArrivalDate PaymentDetails NULL
DepartureDate NULL
CurrentResident

Here's the update query:

UPDATE [PAYMENT] SET [PaymentDate] = @PaymentDate, [PaymentAmount] = @PaymentAmount, [PaymentDetails] = @PaymentDetails WHERE [PaymentNumber] = @original_PaymentNumber AND [CLIENT$ClientID] = @original_CLIENT$ClientID AND [PaymentDate] = @original_PaymentDate
AND [PaymentAmount] = @original_PaymentAmount AND (([PaymentDetails] = @original_PaymentDetails) OR ([PaymentDetails] IS NULL AND @original_PaymentDetails IS NULL))

Finally, here's the delete query:

DELETE FROM [PAYMENT] WHERE [PaymentNumber] = @original_PaymentNumber AND [CLIENT$ClientID] = @original_CLIENT$ClientID AND [PaymentDate] = @original_PaymentDate AND [PaymentAmount] = @original_PaymentAmount AND (([PaymentDetails] = @original_PaymentDetails)
OR ([PaymentDetails] IS NULL AND @original_PaymentDetails IS NULL))

Forms Data Controls :: GridView, calculate Value Based On Other Columns& Save To Datasource?

Nov 8, 2010

I had just started with Visual Studio 2008 + VB.net. I've now designed my tables, and basic gridview functions properly. Now I'm faced with the problem of having to calculate a value based on 2 - 3 columns/data in the gridview, display the result in an existing column in the same gridview, and saving the calculated value in the datasource.I had initially created the "Total" column as a textbox displaying a manually calculated amount that is saved in the datasource. Now, I want to change the field to auto-calculate based on 2 other columns.

AJAX :: How To Modal Popup Extender Inside A Gridview With Edit Delete And Save Buttons

Jul 8, 2010

I have a gridview (gridview-a) with a link button when the user click on this link button it opens a separate modal pop up extender with another grid view (gridview-b) (working fine) I added a close button inside the panel. When the user click on it the modal pop up is getting closed. Excellent.

Now my problem is When I add Edit,Save and Update buttons to the gridview-b ( i.e. Present inside Popup) when ever I click on the edit , or save or update buttons it is going to the gridview-a. How can I avoid that? Do I have to keep the gridview inside a update Panel and make the update mode conditional? If thats true how can I edit , save and delete the rows ( I need to call stored prcedures and all row-databound functions to do that)

Forms Data Controls :: Master Detailed GridView Edit Selects The Wrong Row To Edit?

Mar 16, 2011

I have a page with 2 GridViews on it. The top GridView shows all the Bike Riders the bottom GridView shows all the Bike Lockers. I have set up both GridViews to be able to Edit the data. And the top GridView to Select.

When I click the Select buton on the top GridView I programically reset the DataSource for the bottom GridView to show the Locker for the Biker of the top GridView Selected.

So far everything works great. I select a Biker on the Top GridView and the Bottom GridView resets just showing one record for the bike locker.

The problem is that if I then click on the Edit button on the bottom GridView (The Bike Locker GridView) the GridView goes into the Edit Mode but it now shows all the Bike Locker records and the edit record is always the top record of the GrdView.

Here is my code Behind:

VS 2010 - GridView DataSource Edit

Jul 31, 2011

I have a DataView that is bound to a DataSource, which gets its data from a SQL database.I'm converting a desktop app to a web app and I've been able to duplicate the data query side, but I'm having a hard time inserting a new record via the data source. In the desktop app, I don't use a data source. I have a class I created that inserts a new record, but the upkeep is extremely time consuming, so I'm switching to the datasource. When I assign the datasource, I selected the SQL statement/stored procedure option and created my INSERT command via the Query Builder.

The problem I'm running into is that I don't want a SELECT statement. I just want a plain GridView so I can select Edit, fill in the data and then call InsertParameters. If I don't add a SELECT statement, it won't let me finish the wizard and an invalid one throws an exception. The only other thing I could think of, was to call SELECT and set a WHERE based on a column whose value is null. The app runs, but the GridView doesn't appear. How I can only do an INSERT?

Web Forms :: GridView To Update (edit) Columns And View Table Without Edit Link?

Jan 25, 2011

I have a user requirement to hav the ability to directly edit the gridview without having to click the edit link. I was thinking of showing dropdown lists for each column-to-row so that the user can select the values for each record. Then the table will be updated accordingly (no update link).

Is this possible or do I still need the edit template and specify the item template with the dropdown list?

VS 2010 - Editable Grid That Does Not Save On Every Edit

Aug 7, 2011

I am in need of a very simple grid which the user should be able to edit very quickly. The grid will display a list of food items (name and price) that make up a menu.

My usual approach here is just a GridView bound to a collection of the food items with an Edit button to the left of every row. When the Edit button is clicked I navigate to an Edit page where the user can edit that item and click OK to save it to the database and then go back to the grid page, where the grid is reloaded and shows the edited item.

This approach however is much to slow, the user should be able to edit the grid much more quickly, ideally without posting back (either fully, partially or via ajax).

What I'm thinking is really simple, but I don't have the necessary javascript skill to create this...:

A UserControl that simply creates a new row of TextBoxes for every food item (along with maybe a Delete button). The 'grid' is thus always in 'edit mode' (it always shows the textboxes in every row) and the user can type in any textbox to change the name or price. When this change is made, nothing happens server side, yet. When the user presses Save, I finally run a save method that just checks all rows and saves the new values to the database.

Since the grid is so simple (just Name and Price and the underlying data has a unique Id as well obviously) I think this should be possible, but I wouldn't know how to create this...

I did try, I had a UserControl 'MenuGrid' that was nothing but a PlaceHolder (and two labels for the 'Name' and 'Price' menu headers). It has a DataSource property that I set to a collection of food items in the menu, and then for each of those food items I add a MenuGridRow (another UserControl) to the Placeholder. This MenuGridRow contains two TextBoxes and the Delete button. It also contains a HiddenField control that gets the Id of the food item.

Loading works fine, I can get all the data in this 'grid', but I don't see any way to save it back. Once I changed the items and want to Save on the server, I don't see any way to access the MenuGridRows from the MenuGrid (let alone accessing the TextBoxes on that in turn). I think the problem is that it's all just rendered to html and during runtime there is no such thing as a MenuGrid or MenuGridRow anymore. So all I have is a couple of TextBoxes with seemingly random names and there's no way for me to determine which Textbox belongs to which HiddenField (which contains the Id).

Also, I don't see any way to handle the deleting of a row; I was thinking to just run some javascript that deletes the MenuGridRow from the MenuGrid, but again same problem, there's no such thing as a MenuGridRow at that point and I'd have to figure out which TextBoxes and HiddenField belong to that row and then delete them via javascript.

I tried looking for an editable ajax enabled grid as well, so I don't have to do it all by myself, but I didn't really find anything useful. Most of the grids I found don't even work properly, some work but are still very slow (there's still a postback, they just put the grid in an UpdatePanel but that doesn't make it any faster).

DataSource Controls :: Remove Duplicate Row - Edit Remaining Row?

Feb 25, 2010

removing duplicate rows from datatable or (dataset) by columnd ID (unique). Below function is working but I would like to edit/adjust the remaing (former) duplicate row's value, not the ID value btw.

Example:

ID name sport
-------------------------------
356 John Football
357 Johny Hockey
357 Johny Hockey
358 mike Soccer

should be:

ID name sport
--------------------------------------------------------------
356 John Football
357 Johny newFoo Hockey
358 mike Soccer

Public Function RemoveDuplicateRows(ByVal dTable As DataTable, ByVal colName As String) As DataTable

Dim hTable As New Hashtable()
Dim duplicateList As New ArrayList()
For Each drow__1 As DataRow In dTable.Rows
If hTable.Contains(drow__1(colName)) Then
duplicateList.Add(drow__1)
Else
hTable.Add(drow__1(colName), String.Empty)
End If
Next
For Each dRow__2 As DataRow In duplicateList
dTable.Rows.Remove(dRow__2)
Next
Return dTable
End Function

DataSource Controls :: How To Save And Retrieve The Time Of Day

Jun 21, 2010

When I attempt to store the current time of 'DateTime. Now' in a column defined as time in a table within an SQL database, I get an error message that says: Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.DateTime' to 'System.Timespan'.

I have no trouble storing the current date of 'DateTime.Today' in a column defined as date, but this column will not also store time along with the date. The date column has properties that indicate it has a data and system type of date with a Length of 3 and a Numeric Precision of 10. The time column has properties that indicate it has a data and system type of time with a Length of 5, a Numeric Precision of 16 and a scale of 7. Did I define the time column incorrectly for storing the time of day?

DataSource Controls :: Where To Save Stored Procedure

May 25, 2010

So I'm working with SQL Server 2005 and I'm having trouble saving a stored procedure. (I've only used an Apache server before, and for nothing as complex as the project I'm working on)

Nonetheless, the problem is that I don't know where to actually save the stored procedure I create. In my Object Explorer, I go to the database I want to create it in, expand Programmability, right click on Stored Procedures and choose to create a new one. That's all nice, but when I'm ready to save and test it from my webpage, it asks where to save it. This is probably dumb of me, but I don't know where to. I try to save it on the desktop and click/drag to the Stored Procedures folder in my database, but all that does is open it, not actually store it in the database. Maybe I'm getting the point of stored procedures wrong? Let me know what I should do to save it in the right place so I can access it.
