I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008 C#.
I'm creating a website and currently making tests for registration. I've manage to create a registration form in the web site and save what the user inputs in the textboxes into a sql server 2008 database.
One of the fields is Password. What I want know is how do you save the password into the database but the database stores it encrypted. That way I'm just able to see the password encrypted. Then when I make a log-in form how to validate the password input by the user with the encrypted one and give a succesful login.

Migrating SSIS package from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008
View 1 Replies
Feb 25, 2010
Previous developers have developed a .SSISDeploymentManifest file (SQL Server 2005) to install SSIS packages which prompts a Package Installation wizard. I tried to install it on SQL Sever 2008 (it works on SQL Server 2005), but it failed with the error: "Storing or modifying packages in SQL Server requires the SSIS runtime and database to be the same version. Storing packages in earlier versions is not supported".
How do I install 2005 SSIS packages on SQL Server 2008? I have all the .dtsx files, not sure how to install them?

The sites that I've got are still in classic ASP. I know this is a good reason to move to .net but I don't want to have to redo all the sites yet.
So here is the problem:
[Code]....
When I have "On Error Resume Next" no erros get posted and everything runs just fine, the pulls from the database work perfectly. But as soon as we take On error resume next we start getting the following erros:
err#424err desc:Object requiredsql:SELECT Name,URL,Title FROM tblMenu WHERE Parent_ID=1 AND Deleted=0 ORDER BY SortOrderScript Name: /index2.asp

let say i have 2 table (PARENT and STUDENT table)
the structure for both table are
STUDENT
PARENT
student_id (PK) parent_id (PK)
student_parent (FK) parent_status (the value is either ACTIVE OR INACTIVE)
- parent_id is refer by STUDENT table as a foreign key
- now i want to inactive the status for parent
- i want my system pop out a message something like "The parent you want to inactive is refer by a student, inactive is not allow"
- is it any constraint in SQL Server 2005 to help me check whether parent it is refer by student table? The concept i want to use is something like delete constraint in SQL Server 2005 mean it is not allow to delete a person who is refer by a student in STUDENT table.

The users of my webapplication are validated using database connection. This requires each user is a sql server database user. While logging their validity is checking by trying to create a connection using userid and password entered by the user. If connection opens successfully, it is a valid user. I also have a page in application to change the password, where sp_password is used to updated database password.
string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["DBServerName"];
//try to create a new connection dynamically using user id and password
connectionString = connectionString + User ID=" + userId + ";Password=" + password;
using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
{
connection.Open();
}
The problem is after i change password, and logout and try to login, i am able to login using old passwd also. The line of code which creates and open connection succeeds with both old and new password. If i stop and run the application again this works.

I'm using an ODBC connection to connect a SQL 2005 database to my ASP.NET app in Visual Web Developer Express. I'm finding that the expected functionality that tutorials review does not work for ODBC connected databases the same way as it does for SQL databases created in the Web Developer. For example, I can't use stored procedures because the option to create one is disabled in the Web Developer, and if I create the stored procedure in SQL Server Management Studio Express, it doesn't show up in Web Developer because Web Developer only finds the system stored procedures, not the user-defined ones. I've seen other cases as well where database management options in Web Developer don't work with ODBC databases.
Am I missing something in my setup, or is there an inherent limitation with ODBC connected databases? Or, is this a limitation with using the Express versions of these development tools?
