.sqlexpress, (local)sqlexpress, or .SQLExpress, MyPCNAMESQLExpress
nothing is working, getting this error:

Feb 3, 2011I have the developers edition of sql server 2008 on my local machine (I have an msdn subscription). I would like to download and use r2 client, which I understand is superior to the standard client) but not the express database. Do I want the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools " (doesnt sound like what I want) or the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio Express" (does sound like what I want, and is about 100M smaller, so I assume doesnt load the database). Of course I am assuming that the r2 client connects with no problems to a non-r2 database.

Jul 12, 2010I restored a database from another server, and everything looks good except the users.
I'm managing all this from SQL Server 2008 Management Studio as SA.
The users are present in the [u]databaseName > security > users[/u] section, and they exist in [u]databaseServer > Security > Logins[/u]. However I can't change anything in the [u]databaseName > security > users[/u] section, because when I try and make a change, and then I hit OK to apply, it says "[i]login name must be specified[b][/b][/i]". But the login name field is grayed out and I can't modify it(even though I'm logged into the machine as Administrator and SQL as SA).
Also, in the user mapping section, when I try to map one of the users to a database, it says '[i]create failed user already exists[b][/b][/i]'...but I don't want to create the user, I just want to map that user to the appropriate databases...

Jan 8, 2011After I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard edition, then I upgrade "SQL Server Express 2005" to "SQL Server Express 2008 SP2". Process upgrading SQL Server Express 2008 was going succesfully (none of the process was fail).
But when I create a New Website I could not add a new item "SQL Server Database" into my website file. Because Visual Studio always rejected any new "SQL Server Database" by giving message below (underline):
This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported.

Apr 1, 2010I have been attempting to install sql server express 2008 but have come across problems. I downloaded it via web platform installer and it ran the install process, and I thought this would be it, but then upon creating some wizard log in controls on a website they won't work because its not installed. Then i relised I can't actually run the program, only some of its features. I then found the Installation centre and thought, oh I haven't actually installed it yet, and when I select new SQL server stand-alone installation or add features, instead of going through the process like it states on tutorials for installs, it asks me to browse for installation media, which I do not have because I downloaded the express edition.

Mar 29, 2010I used that Microsoft Windows installer and installed visual web developer 2008 express and sql server 2008 so I thought. visual web developer works find.
When I look at sql server 2008 all I see is import export data link.
and the configuration tools.
In the configuration tools I see the following:
sql server configuration manager.
sql server error and usage reporting
sql server installation center.
So I figure sql server 2008 was not fully installed.d
I open the installation center and went to system configuration checker but I get a dialog
box that say browse for sql server 2008 installation media.

I uninstalled all previous sql 2005 stuff and downloaded SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe for sql server express 2008.

I got an error on install when it claims I have a previous ver of vs2008 and need to install sp1 which I have. After installing sp1 I still get same error.

using SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005. Saved it by name SQLQuery1.sql on the desktop. Now I would like to call this query from C# code when an ASP.NET button is clicked and display the results in a gridview. How do I call the query? Can I tell Visual Studio 2008 to please execute the query stored in 'sqlquery1.sql' ? Where do I store the results so that I can bind them the display controls like a gridview, or traverse the data? Feb 7, 2010When I use Login control with integerated security and user instance to connect Sql Server 2008 Express. When I browser the web page in VS2010 in Solution Explorer's right click context menu "Browser in Explorer", it works correctly, but in IIS 7 get an error as follow:

I use IIS 7, an administrator user credential, application pool's identity is Newwork Service.

Mar 22, 2010I installed MS SQL Express 2008 with Advanced Services including Management Studio 2008. When I connect to the SQL server of my provider (shared hosting - one SQL server for many customers), it takes very long (up to serveral minutes) until all DBs are displayed in the object explorer (from which I then have to choose my DB). Somebody told me, the long waiting time occurs because Management Studio first checks rights (whichever rights that may be) with every DB that runs on the server.
But in Management Studio 2005 the behaviour is different - the DB Tree in the object explorer expands immediately! No waiting time! Does anyone know a solution for this? I don't want to install two separate versions of Management Studio just because of that!

Jan 21, 2011I have SQL server management studio express install on one machine.
I am able to connect to that machine or able to ping that machine from my computer.
I have code which return me the SQL server instances on same network. Using that I am able to get that SQL server instance. I have configured SQL express to access remote connection. i.e.
Configured SQL express to accept named / TCP IP instance connection. Started Browser service.
My machine settings My machine has been configured to set dynamic IP address using DHCP protocol
When I am trying to connect to above mentioned SQL server I am getting error that "Failed to connect SERVER NAME\SQLEXPRESS".
But if I configured my machine with manual IP address and default gateway I am able to connect to same SQL server.
I got the solution to connect to that server but I don't know why I am facing such problem. And also let me know that is the solution I am using is correct or not?
