Databases :: The Webpage Didn't Show Any Results After 5 Minutes Which Normally Takes About 3 Secs?

am querying an Oracle database thru an ASP.NET web page, but the other day, the webpage didn't show any results after 5 minutes which normally takes about 3 secs. Then, 3 hours after, I got an email from the IT Dept asking me to kill my task which was taking a lot of ressources, but I couldn't since there is no way to send a user cancel request as I can do for instance with SQL Naviguator. So, they had to kill it for me. However, I do't want it to happen again because I don't want to overload the servers because of a query that didn't execute properly.
So, I thought about including connection timeout into my connection string, but there is already a default value. So, is it possible to avoid that kind of situation?My code contains a try {} finally {} to trap errors, but I didn't seem to work in this case.

We have ASP.NET Application in Test server. For first time access the Login page of that application load time is slow. Response time is around 25-30 sec. After that I refershed the page or Opened with a new browser, loading of Login Page is around 1-2 sec.
Only user name & password columns are there in login page. Is there any way I can reduce the response time for first time loading?

I have a very peculiar problem that I've been wrapping my head around and I just can't figure it out. I have an updatepanel. Inside that I have a TabContainer. And inside that I have three TabPanels, each of which has checkboxes. Sometimes (and it happens often enough that I can easily reproduce it, but strangely may not happen with the same exact steps), when I click on different tabs or click on checkboxes inside the tabpanels (basically when I do an AJAX async postback), the request takes about a few minutes, after which the request just stops. Looking at the Firefox error console, I see this popping up after a few minutes...
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 0 Now, the asyncpostbacktimeout property for the ToolkitScriptManager is set at 360000, which is 6000 minutes, so the problem has nothing to do with that setting. In IE, I never have this problem and the AJAX requests are instantaneous and smooth, no delays. So this isn't a network or database lag issue. Something to do with how AJAX is run in Firefox. Why is it that sometimes, an AJAX request in Firefox takes a few minutes and just stops processing the request? And once again, the steps to reproduce this problem may not be the same every time, it seems random - very strange. Google searches have yielded very little help on this. I've tried things like extending the timeout property (which again has nothing to do with this), setting Response.Cache.SetNoStore() everywhere. Is there a crude workaround I can do (at this point, I'm willing to settle for a workaround). I just don't know anymore.

I have a web application which has rather a lot of controls. I also have several buttons (add, edit, save, cancel). Most of my content page is in an update panel so it does not process the whole page. On form submit I have some javascript code which shows a div 50% opacity and an animated gif to prevent users clicking on the buttons more than once whilst it is processing the data to the server. Here is the javascript / call:

The problem is it the form disables like I want it and the giff animates for about 1.5 seconds but it does not enable the form for a further 4 seconds.
Is there anyway to see what it happpening at this point. If I put some watches in my code behind it runs through less than a second so what else can it be doing.
Also on some laptops the form does not fit vertically so there is a scroll bar. When the div is shown on a submit it does not do the full screen including the scroll area.

I have table for past four years. It had a records for around 10 Lacks it was taking lot of time to execute so i removed recordes from the table. Table size was reduced to 29 thousand. Still when i execute a query from my application it takes more than 2 minutes to return.

I am working on a website hosted with GoDaddy, SQL Server 2005. I have a table in my SQL Server database with a full-text index. On my website, a user can type in search terms and the terms are then passed to a stored procedure in the database which performs the search. The first search takes about 45 seconds to get results. Subsequent searches return results immediately. I found a description of this problem in a Microsoft knowledgebase article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915850/en-usGoDaddy tech support says I need to purchase a dedicated server to make the changes suggested in this article.Surely there is some other solution. Does anyone know how to avoid this delay without changing the server configuration?

In my ASP.net application i used AJAX Collapsible Panel, its working fine on my local system but after publishing and deploying on win2003 server, panel is in expand mode and dont show animation on click and also on that web form asp menu is not showing submenus. It all happens on clients machines. On server it still somehow showing some animation.

I am working on a financial portal and I am having a problem..I don;t know what to call it so i mentioned it as an 'unknown to me' problem..I have a webpage..whenever I click on any button on my webpage, the request goes through..but nothing show up on the webpage..then If I click on another link and then again come back to previous link,then only I see the results of button_click..
e.g.
I have a currency conversion and investment form..so after filling up the form in following way and if I click on "INVEST" then nothing shows up..
so now if i click on any other link and go back to 'buy currency' link I see the result as 'investment successful'

I am working on a ASP.NET 2.0 application. It is hosted on IIS 6 on Windows 2003 server.
Few pages have jpeg images (around 50 images and 50 KB each). It takes long time to load the page for the first time. But when i open the same page for the second or third time it is faster.
why does a web page take long time to load for the first time?
Is it cached somewhere when it loads for the first time? Do we have any control over it?

I want to redirect the user after 2 mins if there is inactivity for 2 mins. I am not using ASP.NEt membership. And I dont want to use Sessiontimeout for this. Session timeout will logout the user even if he is working on the system. My objective is like screensaver process.
If there is no action for the specified time, the screensaver runs. Similarly, I want to redirect the user to login page.
note that i have already handled it with the following javascript:

the user is working on the site...ok.. he want to see someother site.he browse someother site and works on....or even he can do some other work in his system...but he is active in his system... What this script does is, it automatically logout the user and redirect him to login page. But it should not do while he is active...IT SHOULD REDIRECT IF HE IS NOT ACTIVE REALLY (Similar to Screensaver process)
Is it possible ?

If i browse the virtual directory then the webapplication is working absolutely fine. everything is being configured properly and i also checked the services which are also running.

I am trying to develop a page where I am trying to search a database (MyQSL) and display the data in a table format. Some of the database entries, like category, is stored as integer values, but I want to display the category name in the search result (not the corresponding integer value). I have also another issue, every time I change the dropdown list values (which are having "auto postback" enabled) the <EmptyDataTemplate> is returned. At this moment I am using GridView. But I am ready to change this to any other method, like repeater or whatever...

Strange problem, not sure why it's happening. Basically I have inside an UpdatePanel a dropdownlist, a textbox, and a regex validator. page loads, ddl is bound and then based on the value in the ddl, a different regex is applied to the textbox. DDL could have search by "date" (with date regex), "last name" (with az regex), or "zip code" (with a zip regex). This way one search box can be used with 3 different regexes. Select zip code in the ddl, the OnSelectedIndexChanged is fired and the new regex is applied to the textbox. Simple.
The problem is, though, is that the page loads, I select Zip Code in the DDL, type in a zip code and then tab out NOT clicking the search button, and as soon as I do the regex validator fires with the red *. I wait about 2-3 seconds and it appears there's a postback that's fired somewhere because the textbox gets cleared out. Here's the update panel.

There is nothing in the code-behind that causes any postback except the dropdown list that applies the appropriate regex to the textbox.I see no reason why after 2-3 seconds the textbox gets emptied out. Is there a way to stop this?

I have a gridview on a page with search boxes at the top.
The wildcard for these is % so in every serach box I set the default to be % so that when the page loads all records are shown and then they can be narrowed down by what you search for but when the page opens the gridview does not show all results.
Here is my code:

I have a Gridview that shows my data, I allowed it to have Editing and Sorting. I have achieved refreshing my GV with <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="15">. however, when I Edit and it hits the time to refresh, I loose the Edit mode and starts at the beginning of the grid (I need to find the data again.) Is it possible to still have the refresh (15secs) then when Iam in EditMode, the Refresh stops, then after I have clicked UPDATE. the refresh time starts to count again. (i use VB)

I have the following line on my aspx page..

My issue is, that i only need this to display when my datalist is displayed and has records.. every time else, it needs to be hidden ( Visible = false ) on page_load i have it set to
btnAddVideo.Visible = false;
btnAddVidCart.Visible = false;
Should i only be check then within my dropdown event? By default the page is displaying my datalist, so it should be hidden.. then you have a dropdown to make a selection, if you change it, then it should show ONLY if there are records to be displayed.

I have access to two seperate databases (mySQL) located on two servers. I need to get the data, link the tables on a key field and display the results in a datagrid. My challenge is that if the search criteria changes for the display it affects rows returned from on table and should thus automatically affect the linked table and resulting data returned.
what the best approach would be to achieving this? So far I have set up a dataset with a dataadapter and table for each connection and then linked the tables in the dataset. The problem that I'm having is getting the linked resultsets to work.
On my form I have the datagrid with two Objectdatasources one for each dataadapter and i believe that's where I'm going wrong...

I have been trying to make this work for a while, but I have not been yet able to figure this put. I am using VS 2008 and mysql database. I wrote a query and checked to see if it works in database. It does.
I have a gridview, whose select command is that query. But for some reason, I just get all the rows from one table only. I rechecked my datasource and it is ok. I read on some discussions that it is NOT possible to have data from two tables in a gridview. Is that true? If that is not true, how can I have data from multiple tables in a gridview? Or any other web control for that matter.
