DotNetNuke Human Friendly Urls Not Working On GoDaddy
Mar 28, 2011
I am moving a site from one godaddy account to another godaddy account. Same ASP.NET 4 IIS 7 settings.
What I notice is that all the friendly urls like home.aspx _login.aspx_ return a 404 ERROR, as if the rewrite was not working. As a desperate attempt, I switched from urlFormat="humanfriendly" to urlFormat="searchfriendly" and it started working. But humanfriendly, that allows short and clean urls won't work at all.

I've tried to implement two different solutions that use either and HttpModule or and HttpHandler to do URLRewriting for me. These work great on IIS 7 within my local development environment in Integrated and Classic modes. Currently the production server is running IIS 6.0 on a shared hosting environment. It appears that the request at least hits both the Module and Handler as the URL above redirect to the particular friendly url, but it doesn't redirect and hit hte Module or Handler again. Instead I get a 404 error for the friendly URL.

I am interested in the architecture of a CMS where i can pass a full URL instead of a query string. I would like to make a site that could handle a request to any page... Say'http://www.my-domain.com/directory/page.aspx'and have the resulting response deliver a generic page/file.I would like the request to be passed through an XML document where i could store page names and the corresponding file to render content...

have a search on my site, in which search type and search word are in URL like this: /search/t-someword.htmly route for search:
routes.MapRoute("Search", "searchj/{type}-{word}.html", new { controller = "Search", action = "Index"}, new { type = @"[t,s,p]"});
Everything works fine but when I change string to do not show spaces that word like "some words" looks like "some-words" it doesn't work. With spaces it works

As been requested, I wrote some code which basically change the document's date (the document of umbraco blog).
I have changed every place I can find the date, and makes all the date displays fine, and I have adjusted the path to make it correct.
Now, the url indicated in the umbraco.library.NiceUrl(id) is not working, but previous url is still working.... Just wondering is there any file which 'temporarily' or 'permanently' store the friendly url mapping? if so, how can i modify that?!
Btw, where is the umbraco cache file stored?
btw, umbraco version 4.0.3, restart the website still not working, change the document title will result in old url's title changed, but new url is still not working...

I hosted my project on Godaddy server and they say that the settings required for Url rewriting was already there.But I am getting a blank page when trying to use virtual url to redirect to a aspx page.
<urlrewritingnet
rewriteOnlyVirtualUrls="true"
contextItemsPrefix="QueryString"
defaultPage="default.aspx"
defaultProvider="RegEx"
xmlns="http://www.urlrewriting.net/schemas/config/2006/07" >
<rewrites>
<add name="About-the-company" virtualUrl="^~/About-the-company"
rewriteUrlParameter="ExcludeFromClientQueryString"
destinationUrl="Default.aspx"
ignoreCase="true" />
<add name="contact-my-company" virtualUrl="^~/contact-my-company"
rewriteUrlParameter="ExcludeFromClientQueryString"
destinationUrl="contactus.aspx"
ignoreCase="true" />
</rewrites>
</urlrewritingnet>
This is my code in Test.aspx page
<div>
<li><a href="test.aspx">Home</a></li>
<li><a href="About-the-company">AboutUs</a></li>
<li><a href="contact-my-company">ContactUs</a>
</li>
</div>

I recently switched from Godaddy shared hosting to Godaddy 4th generation hosting or grid hosting.
As per my other question UrlRewriter.NET with .NET 4.0 and Godaddy not working I was unable to get UrlRewriter.NET to work.
So now I have tried ManagedFusion. It works locally but does not work on the Godaddy servers BUT the errors are different and I sense that this might actually work and I have done something wrong in the configuration.
So my web.config settings are (condensed version)
<configuration>
<configSections>
<section name="managedFusion.rewriter" type="ManagedFusion.Rewriter.Configuration.ManagedFusionRewriterSectionGroup"/>
[Code]....
Now this works perfectly fine on my local machine (Visual Studio 2010) but when I upload it to Godaddy servers I get a 404 that says it can't find /Campaign/List.aspx.
And on top of this it also goes to SSL, which I don't want as the SSL cert on that account is for a different subdomain and hence throws an SSL error.
Is there something I am doing wrong? It seems this time the URL module is handling all requests and this looks like I have configured it incorrectly somehow.
Additional Information
Running IIS 7.0 - Integrated Pipeline
.NET 4.0 Godaddy
4th Generation Hosting

I got the login to work fine- go to [URL]if you want to give it a try. Here is the thing. The profile functionality doesn't work. It draws from the same set of files, it used the same connection string as the users, it work on my local machine, but blows up on GoDaddy because it cannot find the file, and when it tries to create it. The file it uses for the profile, aspnet_Profiles, is on there along with the rest of the membership files. The connection string is not defined individually. Why is it finding the user files, but not the profile file.
Here are the files
aspnet_Applications
aspnet_Memberships
aspnet_Paths
aspnet_PersonalizationAllUsers
aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser
aspnet_Profile
aspnet_Roles
aspnet_SchemaVersions
aspnet_Users
aspnet_UserInRoles
aspnet_WebEvents_Events
Here is the Wec.config

Here is the Profile User Control

I have a application which uses intelligencia urlrewriter to rewrite urls into seo friendly urls. Blog engine is integrated in this application under subfolder but shares webconfig with my application. Application runs perfectly on development server, but when i publish it to 2008/IIS7 server urls links don't work. Links similar to following work
<rewrite url="^/Abc" to="~/abc.aspx" processing="stop"/>
<rewrite url="^/Abc_123" to="~/abc-123.aspx" processing="stop"/>
But links like following fail to redirect and i get 404 errors
<rewrite url="^/Abc/(.*/)" to="~/abc.aspx?id=$1" processing="stop"/>
<rewrite url="^/XYZ" to="~/xyz.aspx?cat=school" processing="stop"/>
Anything which has query parameters in aspx url fails. I'm not sure what is causing this error on 2008/IIS 7 server and not on my VS 2008 development server.

I'm asking these questions for a client of mine...
Can you use asp.net and a ms sql db with GoDaddy?
Do they make it hard to leave them?
10 years ago I took over admin control of my own website that I have with networksolutions. When I change from one isp to another I simply make my own changes to the url with networksolutions and direct it at any old server I want.

i have a function that pulls URLs from various web resources. needless to say some are full valid URLS and some are relative as per the HTML of the page. below is my asp.net/ c# logic i derived for examining the URL and then generate a full usable URL from whats pulled from the site...
NOTE:
origianlurl is the full url of the first searched page, and relativeUrl is a url found within the searched page (it can be a full www.site.com or a /contactus.html)
private string ResolveRelativePaths(string relativeUrl, string originatingUrl)
{
if (relativeUrl.StartsWith("http") || relativeUrl.StartsWith("www"))
return relativeUrl;
if (relativeUrl.StartsWith("/"))
{
//get main url something.com

Is there a way to delete a SQL row automatically, without human intervention? I plan to use this concept on advertisements. A user or guest can post his/her advertisement in my site. That advertisement should only last for a specific amount of time, let's say 30-days. After 30-days, the application automatically deletes the said advertisement without me, or any other person, doing anything. I've been searching for a solution these past few days, but it seems I can't find the right words to use in Google.

This is kind of cross-post; however, can a custom http handler be automated to run either using a timer or a filesystemwatcher to post an xml document to another server (with no human interaction)?

I'm using DotNetNuke 4.8.x and want to utilize jQuery. Could anyone possibly suggest me on what is the best way to integrate jQuery into DNN? I won't be able to upgrade DNN version to 5 which has built-in support for jQuery.

Can anyone shed some light on why DotNetNuke comes configured with request validation and event validation disabled? They're both off at the web.config level for a default install which seems to be a regressive approach. Are there any sound reasons for this and what is the functional impact on DotNetNuke if they're turned back on?
Obviously appropriate input validation should be happening in code anyway but the native .NET framework behaviour is always a nice fallback.

We are in the process of implementing a CMS for our project which currently extensively uses asp.net master pages and css. Also the application is data-driven and controls like gridview and listview are used. After a little search we zeroed on two CMS dotnetnuke and umbraco. Now my question is:
Which one of the two CMS is best suited and easy to use?
Do they support integration of existing code and UI's
provide links for further reference.

I want to create a new module in DNN (VB) ... that;
1. does not use DAL or DAL+
2. has only one view.ascx control
3. It has to be a compiled module
I do not need DB connectivity and any bells and whistles just one view control. I thought it would be simple but googling for a day now and it seems very complicated.
I have the development environment already set up with;
1. DNN Starter kit
2. VS 2008
3. SQL server
4. DNN up and running in IIS
5. the project builds successfully
If anyone knows a way I can build a module using the DNN Dynamic Module Template in VS 2008 and then strip off the DAL and all the unnecessary layers and extra controls until I have only a working view.ascx that just prints out "Hello World!" to the screen ...

I am getting started with DotNetNuke and when I try to use jQuery the same way I use it in any standard ASP.NET page it does not work. For example I am trying to use uploadify which uses jQuery and flash. I can't even get the cancel button to show in the control.
By now I understand there must be a workaround and it is different than simple asp.net
Here is the ascx code:

I've Googled, Binged, and here at StackOverflow, looked through the related questions and searched, but I'm not finding what I'm looking for. I've also searched documentation on DNN.
What I'm looking for is any guidance (tutorials, blogs, step-by-step instructions for setting up a repository) etc from people who are experienced in using DotNetNuke with SVN.
We use SVN for all our source control, and have no problem with standard applications, because we pretty much built the repository and directory structure to work with our processes. This means when we do web sites, in Visual Studio, we do file based web sites, rather than setting them up in the local IIS. It just makes things easier for us.
However, with DNN, it appears that even if you get the source code, it is expecting to be set up in the local IIS, which means additional headaches for us.
For example, we are moving all of our source code off our local C drives, and onto a shared drive on a server. This is to enable backups in addition to our normal source control. (This was a management decision). So that means that we need to change the virtual web app when we make the move.
Has anyone come up with a good way to work around this? Can DNN be set up so that the developer web server in Visual Studio can be used, so that we can treat it just like any normal web app? Am I missing something obvious?

I'm creating a new DotNetNuke module and in the past I inherited from PortalModuleBase. I'm aware that there's a replacement for this now. Can someone tell me what it is? I've had a brief search for it but I haven't found what it is.

I've been tasked with looking into performance tuning my company's intranet server. It runs DotNetNuke which suffers from poor performance. It also runs a number of other web apps (mix of asp and asp.net).
Could anybody give me a brief list of common performance tweaks that can be made to IIS6?

In dotnetnuke, I have two sites located on different location. Now I want to point these two sites to the same database. Is it possible to point to same database.
I even tried pointing it from web.config, but thats not working. I don't want to work with child portals, because i have already created site on other location and all the source codes are under that, but when I create child Portal, it creates new portalnumber folder under portals, and it just has two folders in it, Users and Cache, I dont understand how to place codes, as DNN creates lots of folders while creating new site, which are missing here.
