Forms Data Controls :: Access Nested FormView Events
Sep 9, 2010
I have a main formview which contains another formview. In the second formview I have a section that needs to insert/update. I want to access this formviews events for example I can access the main formviews item inserted event in the code behind:
FVInvoiceHCPAgreement_ItemInserted
I can't choose the nested formview events in the code behind
ie. FVInvoicePaymentInfo_ItemInserted
I have tried adding the ItemInserted event in the .aspx page
i.e. onItemInserted = "FVInvoicePaymentInfo_ItemInserted"
but for the handles clause it can't see FVInvoicePaymentInfo.

I would like to ask if it is possible to access data on a master FormView from a nested detail FormView.
I have a main form (master) with several tabs (detail) and would like to display a label with text from main form that is hidden by the tab at the moment of editting. My asp page looks like this.
[Code]....
Is it possible to get the value of the label CompanyTextLabel from CompanyTextBox using just ASP.NET expressions or something similar without writing c# code in .cs file?

I have a very simple form that contains a FormView Control Bound with a SqlDataSource, The DefaultMode of the FormView control is "Insert". I noticed that when I run the page for the first time, the databinsing and databound events of the FormView Control occurs after the PreRender Event of the page ! I know very well the life cycle of a page, but I dont know when the data binding occurs in the life cycle of a page and if it can differ from a control to another.
Is there an article or a tutorial explaining all those things.

I have a text box inside a update panel. With the onTextChanged events, I have a post back set in "True" to show the customer Name and email when I type in the customer ID in the text box. I want to have it show when we leave or Tab out of the text box. Now is working , but only afte I click the submit button. Does anyone know how to code the following in order to make it work right away when we Tab out of the text box.
protected void txtBDID_TextChanged(object sender,
EventArgs e)
{
}

i have the following scenario: one formview. when in editmode there is a child formview linked to the other by a column value. i need to take the value of one of the values of parent formview controls and set it to a textbox of child formview in insert mode. I wish to know which event should I use in codebehind to bind both controls? (that escenario will have paging and must keep the binding as if it was master detail)

I'm currently working with a repeater which has some number of drop down lists in it determined by how many items are databound to it. I wanted to add an event to each of these drop down lists in the scenario that a user changes the selected index.
Here is what I have for the repeater (Note that I am doing all of the databinding in the codebhind.):
[Code]....
I am setting the OnTextChanged event here, however I did some experimenting with using the different events. I found that my method will not run when I am using the OnTextChanged or OnSelectedIndexChanged events. However, if I use some other events like OnLoad or OnPreRender, the method I have it set to actually runs. So in short, why is it that when I put this drop down list in the repeater only SOME of the events seem to work?

I am building a custom master page type control i.e. sort of like a datagrid but should be easier to add custom functionality into it. It's going great but part of the desired functionality is to have a paging control that switches on and off and part of that control would be a textbox that displays the current page number and on TextChanged redirects to the new page of the dataset. The problem I'm having is that technically the textbox which has its event fired is embedded in a control that is embedded in the control you actually put on the page sort of like
Page
|
Display Control
|
Paging Control
|
Textbox
Buried all the way down there the event is not firing. Worse the postback javascript isn't even being written onto the page (Nothing on the page posts back so far this is the only bit that really needs to). I've been trawling around Google for quite a while now and picked up that I need to implement INamingContainer (done) and I need to add the control into the page's control tree (is Pre_Init too late for that?
When's a good time to Add the Control to the page?) then the event should fire, apparently. But I've been unable to find an example of best practice on this there are quite a few near misses where people are having button angst but this isn't a button. So can anyone point me in the direction of getting a control embedded in a control embedded in a control added to a page to behave properly?

I have parent gridview5 and nested child gridview6 within it. The page is working as expected and formatted as i need it now.. I added a select button to the child gridview6 and when i click on it i get an error: {"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."}
I found examples of using the find control, but within the parent gridview.. and i use that fine with other controls.. but cant figure out the right combination of finding the selected row for the nested gridview so that i can display a modalpopup.

Really new to C# & Web developing - but have used the DAL & BLL model from a number of the turorials. Have a situation that I not sure the best way to accomplish. I have an application dealing with courses, books, etc. utilizing an Access Database. All was going well in creating an on-line catalog using Formview and tables to display the db values stored in the Course Table (Course ID the key). User is able to use dropdown list to locate the course - dropdown list showed the Course Nbr & Name, but used the Course ID to get the detail. This issue appeared when they introduced a Prerequisite field in the Course Table. This contains the Course ID of the prerequisite course, but they want to display the Course Nbr and Name in the table field. So today it show 18 (Course ID) and they want B101 Intro to Biology. Hope I have provided enough information of what the code looks like below
Here is the FORMVIEW & TABLEROW
<asp:FormView ID="FVGeeralidades" runat="server" DataKeyNames="ClaveAsignaturas"
DataSourceID="ObjectDataSource1">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:TableRow ID="TableRow5" runat="server">
<asp:TableCell ID="TableCell11" runat="server" HorizontalAlign="Left" Text="<STRONG>1.6</STRONG> Prerrequisito"
Width="150px"></asp:TableCell>
<asp:TableCell ID="TableCell12" runat="server"></asp:TableCell>
<asp:TableCell ID="PrerrequisitoValue" runat="server" HorizontalAlign="Left">
<%# Eval("AsignaturaPrerrequisito")%>
</asp:TableCell>
Here is also the OBJECT DATA SOURCE
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="ObjectDataSource1" runat="server" OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}"
SelectMethod="GetCourseByCourseID" TypeName="CoursesBLL">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="DDLCourse" Name="CourseID" PropertyName="SelectedValue"
Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:ObjectDataSource>

I have a Customer database table with a text field named customerPicture with the name of the JPG file.
I have made a Customer Entity class with the LinQ to SQL Designer.
I also have a FormView displaying Customer instance binding with a LinqDataSource.
My problem is:
I want to make some modifications when some control want to bind the customerPicture field.
For example, when my FromView want to show the field customerPicture I want to return not only the JPG file name, I want to modify this string to add the complete file path and perhaps resample the image to a determinate width and height.
I know that is posible to defeine a partial class named Customer to implement certains partial methods, like OnCustomerPictureChanged(), but I dont know how to do this.
If I make, in this Customer partial class, a new method, for example getResamplePicturePath(), how could I invoke it from a FormView?

Basically as the title of this thread states, I have a FormView that has a GridView inside it and my ObjectDataSource that populates this grid cannot access the Grid.
The Control Id needs to be the name of the Grid I want to access, however through the 'wizard' the Control parameter drop down cannot 'see' the grid I need, only the FormView that is in.
I have tried numerous ways to get round this and am struggling now..
I've tried the following...
ControlID="FormView.GridView1"
ControlID="FormView.FindControl("GridView1")
ControlID="<%= GetNameOfGrid %>"
and numerous other attempts that also failed that I now cant remember...

I've googled a bit for the exact order of all gridview events relative to and where inbetween page events. The only Microsoft article: [URL] is not very clear. I'm especially interested in the gridview row_command event relative to page events.
