Forms Data Controls :: Activating A Search Button From A Form View Control?

I am new to working with the Form View control so I am not quite sure how to do this.
I want my users to be able to enter search criteria into text boxes at the bottom of my FV just beneath a table and then click a button to initiate a DB search and rebind of the form.
Where do I create/ access the button's event handler to make this happen ?
I would like to have buttons in the Item template and possibly the edit template sections of the FV.
So I have created my buttons and now I want to access their button click events.

Once again something for a new bee... I have 3 questions -
1. I wanted to add a drop down list instead of a text box to my grid control (which should come up on clicking editing)
2. Similar control for form view
3. On click "select" in a grid view, I want to open a new web page which will show a form view attached with the same "select" index.

I have a page where I have a tab container and four tabs. the problem is on the first tab "manage quote request" I have a Gridview with the quote request general informatin listed and have a template field created with a link button to databind to the formview quote details. the porblem comes in when after I click on the select linkbutton. the Formview loads right. Then Whe I try to click on the edit linkbuttin in the form view I have to click it twice to change the mode to edit.

I have a requirement to build a "Search" form for a travel company. This search form will be used for searching different travel components such as Flights, Hotels, Cars etc.Most of the fields in the form are common (such as travel dates, origin and destination cities etc) for all components but will also contain some component specific fields (such as Business/First/Economy Class & Nonstop Flight Indicators for Flight Search).Even though most of the fields are common, they need to be displayed with component-specific labels.for example:"travel dates" would say "check-in & check-out dates" on Hotel search form where as they would say "departure & return dates" on Flight search form.What is the best approach to design a search form which would display field with component-specific labels and also provides a way to map/associate fields to components (common fields to all component types and component-specific fields to corresponding component)? Is there something similar to Data Annotations for achieving this behavior?

i have a web form in which i ve a button which will open a sliding pop up box(jquery) on click of it. In the same page i ve also a linkbutton for downloading files. Now the problem is first time wen i click that button it does nothing. (will not open popup box). Once i click on download button and then if i click that button it will open popup box along with download dialog box. Why is it happening so... is it because am using same event click for both these.
but download option is implemented in gridview_rowcommand()..

I'm working on a asp.net forms web application where I've got advanced search form with grid listing results below. Grid is sortable and pageable. Grid is listing products.
I've got two requirements :
1) make the url remember the advanced search form state so search results page can be bookmarked etc.
2) on the product details page there is a back button that should take the user to the advanced search page with the same settings in the form and same grid state.
I have implemented a workaround to above two problems but I don't think my solution is very clean and I'd like to hear better ideas. My workaround is as follows :
1) I iterate through form fields and I put values into the querystring after the hash. So when the page is loaded it gets the values from url if available.
2) when user clicks a link to product details page from the grid I use javascript to create a cookie with url to advanced search page so when rendering the product details page I know the url for the back button.

I have a textbox1, button1 and a GridView1.
I have configured a datasource for gridview1 to execute a Stored Procedure on a SQL Server Database passing a parameter with the value from textbox1.
My question is, how do I code the button1 Click Event to populate the GridView1?
GridView1 already has the datasource configured, I just need to trigger it via the button1 Click Event.

Here is the issue.
I have a table:

What I would like to do is retrieve the Grade score based on a number that is between the Max and Min for that Job Title.
I presume the sql would be like:
"SELECT [Grade] FROM [NUGGET_Tech_Score] WHERE ([Job_Title] = @Job_Title AND @total BETWEEN [MinScore] and [MaxScore])"
However since I am new at this, I am not sure how to get the grade and show it as a label on my form.
Should I be using a Form View control instead of the SQL statement?

currently I am doing a web application such that after user search for all the contracts,the contract id is a hyperlink in which user can click on it to view the results tied to it. There is 2 pages. One is for the search page and after searching results is populated below. The contract id in the grid view is a hyperlink so that when user clicks on it, they will go to another page and view the specific records tied to it. How shld I do this as I am creating this web application in 3-tier formatting.

I have a gridview that holds a bunch of companies (600 of them). I have a textbox under the gridview so people could type in a partial name of the company and basically do a search on the gridview. My problem is that when I run the page the only thing that shows is my search textbox, I'm assuming this is because I have setup the SQLDataSource to filter based on this textbox. I'd like the grid to be filled when the user opens the page and only filtered when the user type something in the textbox and hits go. Does anyone have an example of that in VB that I could look at?

im having difficulty with a project I'm working on. The project has many data tables however it's three that im concerned with. The tables are applicants, position applied for and positions. In one part of the project I have created a formview which inserts users to our applicants table. This is working fine however now I want the option within the formview for users to be able to select from a checkbox list the positions that they are applying for. I want to pull data from the positions table and the current formview and insert that information to the position applied for table. The primary key for "Applicants" is CSVC, PK for "Positions" Table is PositionID, Key for "Position applied for" is CSVC and PositionID.
