Forms Data Controls :: Binding To A Field In Another Data Source?
Apr 9, 2010
I have a DetailsView with some templates. I would like to bind a textbox in one of the templates to a field of a datasource which is not the datesource of the DetailsView. What is the syntax of the Bind() or Eval() code expression to do this, assuming it's possible?
Also where can I find some material on syntax of these "code expressions" and what can be in them?
I realize I'm missing something pretty basic here...
I have a GridView or DetailsView and its bound to a CslaDataSource.I noticed that the "Object_Select()" event is fired automatically with every time the page is loaded or refreshed.How I can perfrom mnaual biding between the DetailsView Control and CslaDataSource ?I want to control binding via code using the DetailsView.DataBind() method in certain cases only.
I'm attempting to load a GridView dynamically on a button is pressed.The gridview has AutoGenerateColumns="True" (set in skin definition) and has a declarative column definitions as follows:
This all works fine the first time, but as soon as I select a different ddlCampaign item, it throws the"A field or property with the name 'FieldName' was not found on the selected data source" ERRORI kinda understand that it has retained the column mappings from the previous datasource assignment/binding and because the new datasource has different column headings it is throwing the error. What I can't seem to achieve is a clear or reset of defined gridview columns before adding the new columns. I cannot clear all columns because part of the GV defn is declarative.e.g.
I am trying to bind the XML data to a datagrid from an XML file. I don't know why I am getting the message: "A field or property with the name 'User_x0020_Name' was not found on the selected data source."
The "User_x0020_Name" field does exist in the XML file. This is a portion of the XML file.
this is the error: A field or property with the name 'idcode' was not found on the selected data source.and what i am trying to do is this... i don't understand that. i never used DataSet before.
I have a DetailsViews that I have added a dropdownlist. When I am in the EditBindings area of the EditItemTemplate, click on SelectedValue the "Field Binding" radio button under "Binding for SelectedValue" is grayed out and not available. I have a tutorial that is very clear on how to add a dropdownlist to a GridView or DetailsView and I feel everything is setup correctly. The dropdown box is working with the available choices but is obviously not binding the selected data.
I have created a gridview at runtime. its working fine when i load the grid first time. after when i am selecting next value from ddl to load grid according to that option(selecting from dropdown list and coresponding values showing in grid) showing error that "A field or property with the name 'datafield name' was not found on the selected data source." might be i am getting this error becuze the privious value is not being cleared" can anybody help me with this problem.

I have a table named RECIPE which is linked to an other table name RECIPE_STATUS
In RECIPE table I have a field named Status_Id which contains the name of the Status which is fetch from the RECIPE_STATUS table based on this ID.
The RECIPE table sample information are as follow :
ID Name Status_Id ==================== 1 Test1 0 2 Test2 1 3 Test3 2
The RECIPE_STATUS entries are as follow:
ID Name ======== 0 Locked 1 Running 2 Free
From an ASP.net page I would like that my user is capable of changing the RECIPE_STATUS from a given recipe. For that I have a DataGrid which is bind to the RECIPE table.
But then what I would like is that the STATUS shown to my user to be the name Locked,Running or free depedning on the Id
How can I bound in my Datagrid the Recipe.Status to be bind to RECIPE_STATUS.Id ?
IN addition to that, If my user change the status for a given recipe, it should be properly save.
which doesn't work because of the final apostrophe in the notation i.e. %>' It truncates after the word e.g O'Neil Someone becomes O' which is incorrect.
This works like a charm: value='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Name").ToString().Replace("'", "'")%>' which isn't good practice as I don't want to hardcode '
I need to bind a List control based on the Gridview Row's datakeyName value while the Gridview control is being loaded into the page. I tried the following but it does not work.The BulletedList control is nested inside a Gridview Control and they both bound to an ObjectDataSource control. In my code, I passed teh UserID into the UserID parameter and call the Select() method but still does not work. Basically, I want to list of a user's hobbies, therefore the hobbies control are driven by the userID. tell me how can I get it to work?
protected void UserGridView_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { int UserID;
There is a field called school which is a dropdown menu, I manually edit items and made it like these: select school, name of 6 elementaries and 2 middle schools, and a high school.I have another field called grade level, which is a drop down menu too, i manually entered the grade items for it: select grade, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3......12.
I would like after user selects a school in the drop down menu, the field called grade level dropdown box' data source will be updated according to school. For example, if it is a middle school selected, the data source of grade level will be updated to 6, 7 8 grade, if it is elementary the grade will be updated to 1, 2, 3, 4 5 etc. In this way later, when user goes to select grade it will show appropriate grade level lists according to schools.
I am using two gridviews with one datasourse. I am getting one error
A field or property with the name 'Empid' was not found on the selected data source. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: A field or property with the name 'Empid' was not found on the selected data source. Source Error:
My code is
<asp:GridViewid="gridview" runat="server" DataSourceID = "SqlDataSource1" PageSize="30" EmptyDataText = "No Records Found" EmptyDataRowStyle-HorizontalAlign ="Center" AllowPaging="true"
I used bind all GridViews, DetailViews etc. on my page using an ObjectDataSource (unless it wasn't possible to do so). Recently, I've started binding all my contols programatically. I find this a lot cleaner and easier, though some may disagree. Binding with a ObjectDataSource obviously has it advantages and disadvantages, as does doing it programatically.Say I bind a GridView programatically (e.g. GridView1.DataSource = SomeList), when I change page on the GridView, I have to also code this. Each time the page changes I have to call GridView1.DataSource = SomeList again. Obviously with a ObjectDataSource I don't need to do this. I normally stick my SomeList object into the ViewState so when I change page I don't need to hit the database each and every time.
My question is: Is this how the ObjectDataSource works? Does it store it's data in the ViewState and not hit the database again unless you call the .Select method? I like to try and get the best performance out of my applications and hit the database as few times as possible but I don't really like the idea of storing a huge list in the ViewState. Is there a better way of doing this? Is caching per user a good idea (or possible)? Shall I just hit the database everytime instead of storing my huge list in the ViewState? Is it sometimes better to hit the database than to use ViewState?
How do you use the http POST method with a Grid View on another page. I am trying to use the POST method to send the ID from the selected row of a Grid View, I am using a link button set to fire the select command and it has the Post Back URL set, from one page and then retrieve the ID value on another page using an Object Data Source. Also, under the Defining Parameters, I am setting the ID parameter to Form Parameter Source and have entered the Grid Views name in the Form Field.
I am displaying a table into a gridview for which I've a SQL query written which uses IF-ELSE condition. In one of the conditions, if the condition stands TRUE then one of the coloms should be eliminated from the table. But I constantly get an error:"A field or property with the name 'IXC_Vendor_Circuit_ID' was not found on the selected data source."
This is my code and i am only able to edit the one data under the category school.But what i nd is to edit the other categories like the name,email...etc..how do i modify my code in the update command.Another thing is to delete the data how do i do that?
I'm new to ASP.net 3.5 and trying to create a test site so I can figure out how to use it in the real world. I have created a FormView (Formview1) based on a Client table using Linq Data Sources. The page includes a DropDownList to lookup Clients. I have added a list option (<asp:ListOption value="" Text="(Select Client)" and set AppendDataBoundItems=true so my added option is displayed. I decided to try to use Formview with only the Edit and Insert Modes, and I have set the Default Mode = Insert. When you open the page, a blank Client record is displayed.
The Client record contains serveral lookup fields and they have drop down lists for each. When I select a client from the Client DropDownList, is get the following message 'ddlClientType' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items I had this problem before and decided the best way to handle this (in the interim) was to turn off foreign key constraints for each of the lookup fields (e.g. ClientType) in SQL Server. That worked for 2-3 days. Now the problem has started again.
When I develop in other applications, I would simply create a lookup data source based on a Union Query with the actual data and a blank record. How can you do this using Linq DataSources. Can you get access and modify the queries?
I've been using the Item Inserted event for my data controls, such as details view. I'm wondering if there are advantages to doing this with the data sources instead of the data control. There is a lot of overlap in the events provided by these two types of controls. Are there advantages to using the events raised by the data source instead of the ones raised by the data control itself. Should I be using the events raised by the data source instead of the control used to enter the data?
.I have a search page where I would search for an item and it would dispaly the results in a gridview...
I have allowed paging and set page size to 10..now I can see the 10 results in the first page and also see the page numbers at the bottom of gridview. But now when i click on the page 2, the method gridview_pageindexchanging is triggered but the result set is not dispalyed. My code is as below..
[code]....
i understand that the data is not binding in the GridView1_PageIndexChanging method..I do not know how can I make data bind..
