Forms Data Controls :: Can A Page Display GridView Controls

I have been given a site mainly created with .ASP pages with the majority of the data retrieval done via Functions within tables.
I'm trying to move away from this by implementing GridViews etc however my gridview within any .asp page fails to return any data. I can test the query and it works within the query builder section however the empty template view keeps on appearing.
The code is below:

I'm new to development and have a question about launching a new page in ASP.NET using VB.NET.
I currently have a page that displays a dropdown list populated from a database.
Once the user makes a selection, a gridview is created on the same page based on that selection.
I would like the gridview to be displayed on a new page and was wondering what the best way to achieve this would be.

I have Gridview populated with few rows , sometimes in few pages set suppose 12 rows in 3 pages as page size is set to 5 per page. I want the footer to display something like this
while displayin page 1 :
displaying page 1 of 3 - items shown 0 to 5 of 12
while displayin page 2 :
displaying page 2 of 3 - items shown 6 to 10 of 12
while displayin page 3 :
displaying page 3 of 3 - items shown 11 to 12 of 12

I want to display the paging format like 1 2 3 4 5 ....... 20 in gridview pagnation
here total number of pages count is 20.
if user clicks on the 20,then the page no 20 will be display..
and the user cilcks on .....,the next five pages has to display with last page number like 6 7 8 9 10 ....... 20

I have an issue that I've spent quite a bit of time trying to solve. I have a Detailsview and a Gridview that I have linked using the ID field, It has now been decided that they want to have individual pages for each Unit. I have this working for the most part, however the detailsview is not being displayed until I hit select the row in the gridview.
How do I get this to automatically display on page load?

If the gridview binds to empty dataset, I need to still show a gridview so that users can ADD more using the textfields in the bottom of the footer template. Since the gridview is empty it won't bind not allowing rendering of the <footer template> I guess I should create a empty dataset if the gridview is empty. How do I check for this and can this be done in GridviewRowEventArgs

I have 3 grid views in my ASP.net application Viewing the data from different tables and search input with button( for all 3 grid view One input field), when i give input and click on serach button only one Grid view should be appear rest of the 2 gridviews should be hide but for me when i change the input values previous Grid view also remain stationed on the screen.Gridviews are GVOpenorder,GVShip,GvSchedule and input field name is txtSearch,button name is btnSearch.

Just a bit of advice needed really in terms of how I should handle my current scenario:
I have a web page that searches for products/category information the results of which are at present displayed in a gridview on the same page.
However, said gridview is a bit of a beast and as such, I would like to have a page that the user searches for, a button is pressed and the subsequent gridview is displayed in a new window.
Ultimately, I would like the user to be able to make multiple searches so that new windows can have multiple gridviews containing different data sets.
My current thinking is to create session variables that can be pulled through onto 'the gridview page'. Having said that, I'm not sure that would work if multiple searches are created?
I am also thinking I might be able to create said 'gridview window' using javascript but my concern here is the potential loss of functionality of the gridview i.e. paging, sorting, editing, etc.
Does anyone have any thoughts or theories on this? What would be "best practise"?

Here i have problem in Bed management in HOspital Management System, how to display the the image in Grid view, when ever a Record has been entered in to the Database.if the entered person is MALE, "M"(Image) should be displayed,if FEmale is entred in to Database "F" ,Image should be added to Grid view.. and if i right click on the "M" or "F"(image), corressponding details should be come like when he joined, Place ,city ,address should come.

I had a problem before with GridView displaying picture and it was solve as post [URL] shows. I am trying to apply the same coding to another GridView with a different configuration and I am having a hard time making the adaptation. May someone take a look at it. What I am trying to add to this GridView is code as:

I have a GridView with a select button. It get the data from a SQL database and everything is working fine. I'm new with ASP. I'm using a Data Set for the project. When the users select a row I need to show details of each row in a hidden panel with a table and labels to each field of the rows. The data of the details to show are in different tables. I already made the QUERIES with the JOIN to the different tables.
I was trying to fill the grid view with the specific query and fill the hidden panel at the same time so when the user click select the hidden panel appear with the data of the selected row. I put the hidden panel inside the grid view with a TemplateField and a ItemTemplate, but it doesn't work.

I need to be able to get the value in the "first" row of a Gridview as its getting or right after it is displayed.
I thought this would work but its coming up null.
I'm using the DataBound event to get the value of the control of a selected row...assuming the selected row is the first row which is probably the error of my ways. Any ideas how to get at this value easily?
