PatientID, PatientName are Foreign Keys. In DataBase on Save the the PatientID my requiredment is PatientName show in DataGrid based on PatientID.

In my code behind file, in the myDDL_OnLoad event handler, I call to the database, populate a SqlDataReader, and set the DDL's datasource to that datareader. I define what data columns should be used for the DataValueField and DataTextField of the dropdownlist. Then I call the DropDownList's DataBind() method. Everything works without error. But, when the dropdownlist is displayed, it has blank lines in it.
By that, I mean if 8 records are loaded into the dropdownlist, it will expand to a size appropriate for 8 rows but, it will be empty. there is no text in it.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? This dropdownlist is in the footer of a dynamically loaded ajax update panel so, it is difficult to see the source code to see what values are in the html element rendered to represent the dropdown.

View 9 Repliesthe problem is that , i have two dropdown in a datagrid one dropdown contain diffrent type of tax name and other contain the tax rate releated to that tax and i also have one buttton i datagrid which work to insert another row for next tax type.now problem is that as sooon as the new row inserted the both dropdown takes the values but as soon as i changed the selected index of dropdown taxname then then all the taxrate dropdown values has been changed with respect to the new one taxname values.

I would rather not magic string my DataTextField/Values on the dropdownlist after setting up the source as a List collection of objects.
I was thinking I could use the DataSource properties but it doesn't seem to like the couple of ways I tried.

View 2 RepliesI have a web application that takes information entered by the user and displays it in a few datagrids, that are located withing a multiview.
In order to enter a row to a datagrid the user enters some information and clicking on a button calls a function that adds the data to an arraylist, which is the source of the datagrid. In addition, every postback the data is binded to the datagrid.
It all works fine in the first time, but from the second row and on it enters only parts of the data and ignores the rest.
I am familiar with populating a gridview with data. I am able to bind the Data pulled from the database into the gridview
gridview.DataSource = myDataTable;
gridview.Databound.
If I write the following code, teh gridview will no longer show the data
gridview.DataSource = null;
gridview.Databound.
My question is , I want to make the same thing with a user control that contain a gridview. when I use the user control in an aspx page, I am able to populate it with data, but when I try to make this code, the Datasource does not show, instead, I see .DV. So I tried this code but then , I do not see DataSource property instead I see DV (DataView), when I put .DV = null, I get an error message that the object is not in existed. any idea how to clear the user control gridview from its data.

Does any one know why it does this?
I've tried many different ways to try to get the selectedIndexChange to work for my dropdownlist. It doesn't seem to work, when I debug, I can see that the page is doing a PostBack but the method that suppose to be taking care of the select index change doesn't seems to be fired. I have a DataGrid that has a dropdown list in an ItemTemplate. Basically, users select a value from the dropdown for each row of the datagrid. When the page is posted back, the selected index of the dropdown list is always reset to 0, and the items are re-bound.
Does anyone know why this might happend? The dropdown items are hardcoded, so there is no external data binding that happens on post back.

I know the fix when populating the dropdownlist from a datagrid was to edit your SQL query but the values I am receiving are sent via an XML string. The idea would be to display a name, price, and date in the dropdown text. Currently I am getting the following error: DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'MonetaryValueServiceType' While using UPSDropDown.DataTextField = "MonetaryValue" & "ServiceType" Is there a work around to do this? The only other option is to use radio buttons (which are also a nightmare).
View 1 RepliesI'm currently working with a control that inherits from DropDownList (it has some extra functionality that isn't really relevant to this question, but it gives me a nice place to implement the extra stuff I'm gonig to discuss).
We're using data binding, with the DataTextField and DataValueField working absolutely fine. However, I find myself in need of a similar field that will control whether or not the item is enabled. (I've already overridden the RenderContents method of the control so it properly renders non-Enabled items, since DropDownList doesn't do this by default.)
Thus I'd like to know how to override the DropDownList's data binding so it acts exactly as normal, except a further field from each DataSource item is applied to each ListItem's Enabled property.
(NB: the field I'll be binding to isn't a straight boolean, and doesn't have an explicit/implicit cast to boolean, so I'll probably be "passing" it as a string.)

Name(x) contains the state name in different languages. I get a collection of State from the method StateManager.GetAllStates() and I want to bind this collection to a DropDownList. The problem is that I can't find how to set the DataTextField property to let's say stateList.Name(1) which is the english name of my state.
