I have a DetailsView on my page, bounded throught ObjectDS (but I think it's not important). Some field is readonly for some users - based on role membership and other paramaters. I've tried to use the PreRender event to manage these field's readonly state. Everything is working - except one template field: when I click first time on Edit button the dropdown list stay readonly independently the role membership. When I click on Cancel than Edit again the control state is good. Code of PreRender event handler:

I have a GridView, here I am adding the LinkButtons at runtime to the GridView cells. I am also attacing an click event on these LinkButtons.
The issue is that when I populate the GridView from the Page_load the LinkButton click works, but if I move GridView polulation code in the Page_PreRender event the click event doesn't executes.

I have a detailsview that is listing a users membership data. userid, username etc... I have the info in template fields. Basically I have also created a button named "Delete User" at the bottom of the page outside of the detailsview. (detailsview is only displaying one user's data). When the button_click event is called I would like to delete the user using the command

Where username is a string I pass through from the detailsview. I am using VB and can't seem to find a way to bring the username value over from the detailsview into the button_click event.

I use ObjectDataSource and DetailsView for Updating records . my Bll input parameter method is an Object instead of regular parameter . So i though i could make my own ObjectParameter in ItemUpdating event of DetailsView and i need some modifiation on the data that user input on boudfield in detailsView . I don't know how to access BoundFiled data from ItemUpdating Method of DetailsView.

I am running some custom code in a user control using the <%=Code%> tag. The problem is that the code seems to run before the PreRender event. Is there any way for met to get this code to run after the PreRender event?

A DetailsView in Insert mode has all fields cleared after events such as the following:
1. Clicking New.
2. Clicking Cancel.
3. Clicking Insert (if the default mode is Insert).
I have some fields linked to ViewState and they are populatd at PreRender event handler. I am wondring if there is a single place where all relevant ViewState elements can be cleared instead of doing this in all possible relevant handlers such as ItemCreated, ItemCanceled, ItemInserted, etc.

I have GridView control and assosiated DetailView control.
When the record form GridView is seleted, I am showing the details on DetailView.
I have set the Auto generated delete button to true. And now I want to delete the record when someone clicks the Delete button from DetailView control.
Following is the HTML markup for my details view

I have a detailsview control, which I use to enter data and save to the database. I am using object datasource to connect to the db. The detailsview control has autogenerateinsert = "true". When the insert is successfull, I want to set some variables and and to redirect the page to a different one. I don't know how to access the insert button click event of the detailsview to do it. If there is different solution like using <insertItemTemplate> and using custom linkbuttons.

At the first loading of my page, duration of PreRender takes upto 13 seconds. That page has basically a gridview control which bind to SqlServer query by SqlDataSource. When I execute query seperately, it takes only 0.02 second.
On the other hand, for the next loadings of same page by postback, duration of PreRender varies from 0.5 second to 3-4 seconds.
In addition to gridview, there are several dropdownlist, update panel, ImageButton in gridview. I use paging for Gridview.
Which strategy should i follow to increase performance of this page?

I have a detailsview that is a mix of textboxes and dropdown lists. Upon clicking update - i want to examine all of the fields that have changed and do a custom update. I am trying to capture the data using the ItemUpdating method, capturing 'e' as detailsViewUpdateEventArgs. If i specify DataKeyNames in the ASP:DetailsView and only use one key (the primarykey) then i can step through the e.oldvalues and e.newvalues examining the data - but i don't have access to the field names (except for the single key i entered).
If i use all fields from the DetailsView in the DataKeyNames parameter - then i have access to all the fieldnames via e.keys(n) - but at that point i don't have access to the e.oldvalues (count=0) I am greedy - i want the keynames, the oldvalues and the newvalues.

Whenever I try to export a ListView with formatting or dynamic content in the PreRender event to an Excel file, I lose all of the changes from the PreRender event. Here's the ListView code:

I've done some reading and found that RenderControl possibly ignores anything in PreRender for a control, but I'm thinking there has to be a way to get those PreRender changes in there before extracting the ListView to Excel.
The only workaround I've found so far is to copy and paste all of my preRender code into the Page_Load, and then everything looks fine in Excel. However, then I have to duplicate my code, as I still need it in the preRender event to display it on the screen properly. I don't want to maintain the code twice.

I am trying to arrange the information from a SQL record into a 3 column by 3 row table to fit the form presentation that I want. I have placed on the page 3X3 table and then tried to place a detailsview in the first cell for the first picture called P1dv.
I have place a detailsview in the last cell that would control the paging of information called Controldv. I need to fiqure out how to link P1dv paging to Controldv page action. I am using visual web dev. 2005. I am not updating or editing these are read only views.

I´m trying to link the gridview to detailsview and I used this page as my inspiration:

But I´m trying to do that programmatically, not with the sqldatasource. So I wrote the method that binds data to Detailsview and I call it in the page_load. The problem is that I have to click two times on the select button to view the detailsview. The first time I click on the select button nothing happens.

i have one method which save datatable in viewstate.i am calling this method in. page_load2. Prerenderthe page was every heavy,i did tracing of page i found due to calling of method from preprnder it doubled the viewstate sizewhat was the reseon behind this.

I am creating Dynamic UserControls with Dynamic AjaxControls. Then I store each of the UserControls in a Collection. On Postback I recall the UserControls in the collection to Re-Create the interface. It works if i only use Standard HTML controls but does NOT work with AJAX controls. I get this error on PostBack Extender controls may not be registered after PreRender. So far I have tried the following:
MyBase.OnPreRender(e) in Page and Usercontrol EnsureChildControls() in the OnInit Added ScriptManager to the MasterPage None of this stuff is working... If I re-create all the controls including the ones inside the usercontrol then i get no error however it takes forever to do a postback as opposed to just recalling the collection of UserControls.

When creating dynamic ajax controls you may experience a pre-render issue on postbacks. You are supposed to re-create the controls on postback, however if there are very many of them performance gets very slow between each postback. i.e. clicking on a combobox, it may take several seconds. So what I did was group the controls in panels, store the panels in a collection, then re-call the panels on Postback. This actually works great if the controls inside the panel are standard html controls (textbox, dropdowlist, etc.). But...doesn't work well with ajax controls...yet.
I have included a sample below. Uncomment/Comment the code to test it.

I have been led to believe that the best point to bind your controls is the PreRender. As all the controls are ready and this is the last stage before rendering etc. Is this correct or should controls be bound at a different point?

I get this error on postback from using a dynamic created controls, specifically the
Ajax ComboBox. If I use DropDownList instead, then I don't get the error. How to over come this issue? I do need to use theAjax ComboBox because it allow extra properties not available in DropDownListHere is the complete error:Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Script controls may not be registered after PreRender.My ToolKitScriptManager resides in the MasterPage.

I would like to find controls in the detailsview control placed in the EmptyData Template of the gridview. I am trying to create Insert new record for the gridview control.
1. If there are existing records in the table - works fine and sets my two values: I placed Detailsview and Insert Button in the footer of the gridview. I needed to set the values of two fields. When I click on the Insert button it saves new record and sets the field with the value (code attached - works fine). I also have a popup extender that opens detailsview - this works just fine.
2, If ther are not records in the table - saves record but cannot find and set controls on the detailsview Same thing setup in the EmptyData Template. The record is saved but I cannot Find and set the field value on the control.
