Forms Data Controls :: DropDownList Keeps Appending To Contents?
Nov 9, 2010
I've got 2 DropDownList controls. The 2nd one is dependant upon the choice of the first.
This bit is working... sort of
When I make a selection in DDL1 I get the right list of items in DDL 2, but if I were to change DDL1, I get a further list of items appended to DDL2
It just keeps stacking up the list items.
I've got AppendDataboundItems to True, because I need a blank as the first item in order to use the SelectedItemChange event.

I'm attempting to change my select statement when a selection of "Other" is detected. The problem is that the select that executes on the page is always the original selection from the datasource definition. I've found an example where the "SelectCommand" value is changed in the code behind, but it is for a case where the dropdownlist is not in a template. I'm thinking that I have to bind to the template, but I'm not getting it to work. (see the last couple of lines in the Page_Load code)
asp code:
<div>
<asp:DetailsView AutoGenerateRows="False" DataKeyNames="EmployeeTimeId" DataSourceID="sdsEmpTimeDetailsView"
DefaultMode="Insert" HeaderText="Add EmployeeTime"
runat="server"
AutoGenerateInsertButton="True"
[Code]....

I'm new to asp.net. I have an exercise about datagridview.
Basically it's like this, I created a sql database in visual studio, added some tables and records. I added a gridview to my page and change the datasource to 1 of my tables. It displays every thing fine.
Now my exercise is, I need to add a new record to that table from a textbox control and button submit, and display in gridview after page reload.
DataTable dt = new DataTable();

I am working on an asp webform that pulls from an ODBC datasource then puts the data in an sql server. Once the data is in the sql server several queries pull data from it to provide information for a report.
This is an example of what I am talking about
private
void ODBCpdEmployeeAb()
{
DataTable dt =
new
DataTable();
[Code]....
The first part gets the data from the ODBC connection and the next part stores it in an sql server table. The problem is I have these methods in the page load event of the webform so everytime it loads it just puts the exact same data in the sql server table which would then provide incorrect information on the report.
Is there a way to append the most recent data from the ODBC table to the sql server ?

what is the best way to append data onto a file download? I figure that i can make my own class that implements InputStream and just consolidates two input streams (the file first, my additional data to append second.) but is there an existing view class that i can use to just return an InputStream or will i have to roll my own view class as well?

I've a custom gridview that inhertits the standard asp:gridview control,
The grid has predefined columns. now when the data is getting huge, the content is not wrapped properly ...
Hence gridview size appears to be very long.
i tried doing this:but it is not working.
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="AND/OR" HeaderText="AND/OR">
<ItemStyle wrap="True"></ItemStyle>
</asp:BoundField>
</Columns>

I have a GridView control which contains a custom <pagertemplate> with a <asp:PlaceHolder runat="server" ID="plcPages"> control. The .aspx.cs file contains the following code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
... {Other Code} ...
GridViewRow pagerRow = GridView1.BottomPagerRow;
PlaceHolder PagePlc = (PlaceHolder)pagerRow.Cells[0].FindControl("plcPages");
Button btnPage;
int iPageNum;
for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.PageCount; i++) { iPageNum = i + 1;
btnPage = new Button(); btnPage.ID = "btnPage" + iPageNum.ToString();
btnPage.CommandName = "Page"; btnPage.CommandArgument = iPageNum.ToString();
btnPage.Text = " " + iPageNum.ToString() + " ";
PagePlc.Controls.Add(btnPage); } }
Everything works fine the first time the page is displayed. But, when I click any pager button, including the Next and Prev command buttons that are not part of the PlaceHolder, the contents of the PlaceHolder are never re-displayed. I know from searching other posts that the PlaceHolder contents are lost during the trip to the server, but I am already recreating them every time the page is loaded. They are just never being shown again. I've spent the last two days playing with ViewState And every other combination.

I've got a DataList showing images from a directory folder and this works well. However, I'd like to be able to page through the results rather than have one long page of images. I was wondering about putting the results in a GridView template somehow and use the paging on that.
Here's my code:
asp:DataList ID="DataList1" runat="server" RepeatColumns="3" CellPadding="0"
style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small"
Height="307px" Width="465px" BorderStyle="None" CellSpacing="3"
Font-Bold="False" Font-Italic="False" Font-Overline="False"
Font-Strikeout="False" Font-Underline="False" HorizontalAlign="Center"
RepeatDirection="Horizontal" ShowFooter="False" ShowHeader="False">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Image Width="108" Height="72px" ID="Image1" ImageUrl='<%# Eval("Name", "~/GalleryImages/{0}") %>' runat="server" /> <br /><br />
<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" Text='<%# Bind("Name") %>' NavigateUrl='<%# Bind("Name", "~/GalleryImages/{0}") %>' runat="server"/>
</ItemTemplate> <AlternatingItemStyle BorderStyle="None" />
<ItemStyle BorderColor="Silver" BorderStyle="None" BorderWidth="0px" HorizontalAlign="Center" VerticalAlign="Bottom" />
<SeparatorStyle Font-Bold="False" Font-Italic="False" Font-Overline="False"
Font-Strikeout="False" Font-Underline="False" VerticalAlign="Bottom" />
</asp:DataList>
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim dir As New DirectoryInfo(MapPath("~/GalleryImages/"))
Dim file As FileInfo() = dir.GetFiles()
Dim list As New ArrayList() For Each file2 As FileInfo In file
If file2.Extension = ".png" OrElse file2.Extension = ".jpeg" OrElse file2.Extension = ".jpg" Then list.Add(file2) End If Next

i have a listview which contains a text box and a drop down control (which makes it kind of a layout ...a text box along side a drop down control in each row). there can be any number of rows in the listview depending upon a user entry (an integer).
after i have filled all the text boxes and changed the drop down controls to their associated values (for each text box), i want to save everything that i have filled. i have a SAVE button OUTSIDE the listview, and i want to (probably) iterate through all the rows of the listview and save all the contents in the textboxes to a collection object, where each collection item will be a row with textbox's text and dropdown's selected index value.

I have a gridview that is populated from a selection made from a dropdown list box.
I would like to add a button that will select the returned results being displayed in the gridview so that the data can be copied to the clipboard for use in another app like excel.
The size of the gridview will vary depending on the selections made in the drop down.

Repeater data rendering problem
im using Visual Web Developer Express2005 and language: VB
Example Image of my forum thread that im working:
i encircled in color red the part where i assign the 'content' as you can see above.here EXAMPLE of code in my repeater that populate a <td>(inserting data FROM my database) from my TableField('content')
[Code]....
the part that i encircled in the image above was the data on my tableField named--> 'content'.
The idea was to show not the whole content but to show Only some part of it. example is to show only the 1st 300chars or 100 words.
i tried this code which shows the fist 1-100 chars. [Code]....
Problem is the data i stored in the TableField('content') has other html tagsExample my Tablefield('content') has the following data.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA"><span style="font-size: x-small">All hands worked in the preparation..............
When i use the code .tostring.tosubstring(1, 100) it shows: <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA"><span style="font-size: x-small">All hands worked in the preparation..................
instead of starting at: All hands worked in the preparation.......Is there a way that i could extract first the html tags then use the
.string.tosubstring(1, 100) to make it work.I use the code below temporarily to generate the 'content' as showed in the image above. i limit the height of the lable to 100px which does the trick. but i know its not a good method thats why im trying to look for other methods.
<asp:Label runat="server" Height="100PX" Width="615px"><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Content")%></asp:Label>

I have a 2008 c# application that displays data in a gridview. Two of the columns can contain text up to 500 characters. I have been able to handle these in the gridview by displaying the long text in a scrolling div tag. That works fine in the gridview, but when I export the gridview to excel, the row-height autofits to the large text fields, giving extremely tall rows. Any idea on how I can control the formatting to limit the row-height for the output excel spreadsheet? The approach I use for the export is described in
http://mattberseth.com/downloads/GridViewExportUtil.cs.

I have an email contact form that I have successfully populated the account users Username and email address into text boxes
I also use a text box and session variables to send parameters to a stored procedure and return a single row result in a form view.
The thing I am having an incredibly hard time figuring out is how to populate a single textbox with the data from any of those fields. or the whole control as a single summary.
Just for starters I am actually an IT Manager and NOT a coder so this is entirely a hack job if there ever was one...
here is my aspx code
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" MasterPageFile="~/RMSWeb.master" CodeFile="Service2.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default" %>
