I have a dropdownlist embedded into an asp.net gridview. I have successfully populated the dropdown list in the footer but have not been able to populate the dropdownlist in the EditItemTemplate. Here is my code that works. I need to do the exact same thing for a dropdownlist embedded in the update functionality of the gridview.

I have a "simple" gridview that has some columns, and the ability for editing/deleting. I recently found that I can change the editing textbox to a dropdownlist and have follow that, using:
[Code]....
It's quite simple and instead of using an sqldatasource, I have successfully implemented using the sqlclient in the codebehind to bind data only when I want (since this GridView is for "reports" and is queried by many parameters from user inputs).From what I've found online, the only way people have populated the dropdownlist is by using an sqldatasource - is there any way to populate it using the codebehind sqlclient like I have for binding the gridview and other dropdowns on the page that are exactly the same actually. I'd obviously have to set the SelectedValue to be what the value is coming from the database, which I can't see being that difficult.
The tough part seems to be knowing when to access this "MoneyTypeEdit" dropdownlist. I thought it would be in the RowEditing event, so I tried something like:
[Code]....
And I know everything outside of the "inserted code" works, because it was fine before I added that, but the dropdown obviously didn't have any values. And I know the code inside the "inserted code" works because I use it somewhere else on my page to populate a similar dropdown. But I get the error that MoneyTypeEdit is null, and I'm guessing it's because it can't find the "MoneyTypeEdit" dropdownlist.

I have a textbox inside edit template and it is binded with the data. Somehow, textbox data starts from the middle instead at the beginning of the box. I can use textarea where it starts from the starting point but I cant bind the data inside the gridview.
View 1 RepliesIf there's a better way to accomplish what I'm attempting I haven't found it yet. That being said, I have create a gridview like the one here,[URL]And with some minor tweaking it working great for all my fields, checkboxes, etc. The issue is my last column is another gridview, and I'd like it to function the same. that is, a dynamic gridview inside of a dynamic gridview. I get that I have to create it initially with null values or it won't show up. I guess what I'm having trouble figuring out is instead of go will null data in the parent gridviews column, do I place my blank child gridview. Do I create and bind the child gridview first, or second. Generally just not sure. Also, as far as storing the data from the child gridview goes, will each one need it's own datatable?

I have requirement to bind ASP.Net DropDownList control in EditItemTemplate of GridView.
I preferred the tutorial:
[URL]...
i have followed same steps just but difference is i have a edit imagebutton with commandname="Edit".Also dropdown needs to be binded from different table(directory) and not the table through whicch grid is binded(details).
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow && (e.Row.RowState & DataControlRowState.Edit) == DataControlRowState.Edit && GridView1.EditIndex == e.Row.RowIndex)
{
DropDownList DStatusEdit = (DropDownList)e.Row.FindControl("DStatusEdit");
string query = "select distinct status from directory";
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query);
DStatusEdit.DataSource = GetData(cmd);
[CODE]..
the page is running but when i click edit image button the dropdwn shows but no data in dropdown binded it is empty.
My gridview is inside update panel.
How can i achieve this?
Should dropdownlist in my case be binded inside rowcommand and how?
I am having problem with rowdatabound, want to add if conditions intact, i am using teh following two if conditions and they don't look right. i found them on google.
If e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Normal Or e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Alternate Then end if
If e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Edit Or e.Row.RowState = 5 Then end if
With datagrids i use these and they work excellent:
If e.Item.ItemType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemType.Item OrElse e.Item.ItemType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemType.AlternatingItem Then
end if.....
i saw this post on[URL] so the problem is .... if there is a datasource in some editeitem template in grid view .... it won't be accessible from out of the edit-item field.....
here's my code...

that i have here is ID-column which contains a linqdatasource taking a where parameter from a dropdownlist and they are both in the same edit-template field.
and i have in another column (CourseTypeID-column ... edit-item template) a dropdownlist ..... now this dropdownlist i want to bind it to the linqdatasource exists in the ID-column (edit-item template)..... is that possible in the designer (or from) not code behind ..... and how ????
there are few columns in the grid view which are fixed and in i used template field for this purpose. I have assigned the bind property to each column in edit item template but it didnt show values on these fixed value columns.here is grid view code

View 13 RepliesI have a formview which binds to a table where one of the fields is an integer zip-code field. I want to pad the zip with a leading zero in the edit template when the zip is something like "02134". How do I edit the bound data without "breaking" the two-way binding?
I wrote simple function to add the zero and return a string:
Public
Function padZIP(ByVal zip
As
Integer)
As
String
Dim tmpStr
As
String =
CType(zip,
String)
If tmpStr.Length = 4
Then tmpStr =
"0" & tmpStr
Return tmpStr
End
Function
and I can call it in the itemtemplate fine:
<asp:Label
ID="ZipLabel"
runat="server"
Text='<%# padZIP(container.dataitem("Zip")) %>'
Width="30"
/>
but, trying to do that in the edititemtemplate breaks the binding?
I'm using an EditItemTemplate within a datalist, and I'd like to populate all comboboxes with the data that has already been entered whenever it goes into edit mode. I'm simply using this code:

I have a gridview and it has two ItemTemplates for editing, which replace a label with a dropdownlist. The dropdownlists are databound in the RowDataBound function as shown below. It works just fine except for rows which are in the Alternate rows (as defined by the auto format selection.) In essence, the ItemTemplate is replaced by the EditItemTemplate properly bound; but the AlternatingItemTemplate is replaced by empty dropdownlists. Is this a known feature? Is there a workaround?
[Code]....
I am handling the row databound event. I need to bind a dropdownlist which is present only in the EditItemTemplate.
So it is throwing:
DropDownList ddlAccountingPeriod = e.Row.FindControl("ddlAccountingPeriod") as DropDownList;
UIControlHelper.BindApprovalPeriod(ddlAccountingPeriod);
this throws a null exception as the dropdown is not present in the ItemTemplate.
Is there a way to check whether it is itemtemplate or edititemtemplate.
