Forms Data Controls :: Edit Grid Data In A Modal Popup
Feb 21, 2010
I have a GridView, and I want to enhance the edit mode, so, I was thinking in modal popup to edit the data when the user clicks the edit button. I used a templated filed with an image to edit data. In the GridView_RowDataBound code, I add an attribute to the image on each row bound...
Dim EditarActividad As ImageButton = e.Row.FindControl("EditarActividad")
EditarActividad.Attributes.Add("onclick", "launchModal")
I have a button TEST the pop-up modal frame, and it works fine:
<asp:Button ID="ModalPopupButton" runat="server" Text="Modal Popup" />
<asp:ModalPopupExtender ID="ModalPopupExtender" runat="server"
TargetControlID ="ModalPopupButton"
PopupControlID ="ModalPanel"
OkControlID ="OkButton"
DropShadow="true"
BackgroundCssClass="modalBackground"
RepositionMode="RepositionOnWindowResizeAndScroll" />
Also, I added the Javascritp "launchModal", on the client side to simulate the ModalPopupButton_Click...
<script type="text/javascript">
var launch = false;
function launchModal() {
launch = true;
}
function pageLoad() {
if (launch) {
var button = $find("ModalPopupButton");
button.click();
}
}
</script>
Why when I click the image on the GridView shows the modal popup frame on its original position (below the grid), and not floating on the center of the screen? (If I click the Button, it works fine).

Which is pretty much eaxactly what I was after! . I have been trying to alter the edit functionality instead of actually having to click on an edit button the user can click anywhere on a selected row to bring up the edit popup window. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple of days and cannot find a way to get it going.

I 'm trying to use a gv with a modal formview to edit the row details
my first problem is: i can't get the Gv data keys there are actually two but i im trying to go one at a time. the data keys will be 1=rideid & 2=rideleg ... the combination of these two fields make all rows unique.
Secondly: after the row has been edited i need to change the data source so it can be saved in a second table.
these are the errors i'm getting with the code below
Error 65 The best overloaded method match for 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.ParameterCollection.Add(string, string)' has some invalid arguments
Error 66 Argument '2': cannot convert from 'object' to 'string'

I have one parent gridview where each record will link to its details page (another child gridview in modal popup). May I know how do I store the values of the child gridview temporary (maybe in session) and repopulate the data into the parent gridview? Current problem is: once I click save in the child modalpop gridview, it binds the parent gridview before the child gridview data is stored in session. I want to store the data temporary until user click save in the parent gridview.

I am new to AJAX. I am designing a feedback form for a video conferencing session in asp.net web application which will be displayed as a modal window. The questions on the modal window will be displayed from a table stored on SQL Server 2008 and the responses of those questions should again be stored back in a different table on SQL Server after user clicks on the SUBMIT button on the modal window (and also, the window should close after the action).
I am not aware of the way to retrieve data from or store data to SQL server from modal window though I know how to retrieve and store data using asp.net and c#...

I have a gridview that appears in a modal popup that is generated dynamically and is bound to a dynamically generated SqlDataSource.
I did this to hopefully take advantage of the gridview's automatic editing capabilities.
My problem is that when the edit button is clicked the modalpopup closes due to a full postback in spite of the fact that my gridview is in an update panel...
I looked at solutions here and here but neither fixed the problem. I've also tried every combination under the sun regarding the positioning of the ModalPopupExtender in relation to the update panel etc, and have tried changing UpdateMode to conditional as well.
Markup:
<span class="none"><asp:Button ID="btnDummy" runat="server" Text="Dummy" /></span>
<ajax:ModalPopupExtender ID="mpLabel" runat="server" TargetControlID="btnDummy" BackgroundCssClass="modalBackground" PopupControlID="pnlLabels"></ajax:ModalPopupExtender>
<asp:Panel ID="pnlLabels" DefaultButton="btnOk" Style="display:none;" runat="server">

I would like to know if it is possible to force the update of a gridview from a javascript function..
By now, I'm doing a XMLHttpRequest to obtain some values and processing them in javascript..
But now I need to display these values in a grid, too.. And I was thinkin in create a gridview filled in server side with an objectdatasource, and forcing the refresh of the grid from javascript.
Is there any way to do this? Or maybe would be better to edit the grid content from javascript?

I have a gridview on a web form and it is working, but the users find it too slow for data entry with them having to click on the edit and update buttons. I would like to allow them to edit all the rows and then when the form's overall save button is pressed then I save the changes. I found this: [URL] which does something similar, but I don't want to use the check box to indicate which row is being edited.
I've got close based on that code, but one of the controls in the column needs to control how the rest of the columns are displayed and I can't work out how to refer to the other columns and control on the current row from some code that is called by the OnTextChanged associated with a control.

How can I do this? I know how to prevent the sqldatasource from binding using a session such as cancel the selecting if the session is not set.
