Forms Data Controls :: File Thumbnails In Gridview?
Aug 16, 2010
I know we can show image thumbnails in a gridview...but what about thumbnails of word documents and pdf files?
I know we can put an icon image in the row...but is there a way to show a large thumbnail of the actual document?

I have a datagrid which pulls data from a single database table to display it. However, this database table also contains information on the thumbnail URL for each record, and I would like to display the thumbnails for each record in the 1st column of the datagrid.
At present I have added the following to my datagrid:
[Code]....
So I presume the main challenge now is to set the Thumbnail.ImageUrl property to the correct file path in the VB.NET code. But how do I do this for each record? I am using a function to retrieve data for the gridview, which is based on the following:

Right now i am using the following code but it stores whole data in a single column and a single row but i need it in four columns named NC, WC, PRC,ETAC and it's values in respected columns.
Code:
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
String ext = System.IO.Path.GetExtension(FileUpload1.FileName).ToUpper();
if (ext == ".TXT")
{
String content = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(FileUpload1.FileBytes);
String[] ar = content.Split(';');
GridView1.DataSource = ar;
GridView1.DataBind();
}
}
how to get data in four columns in Gridview as a tabular format. I am using technologies Visual Studio 2005, ASP.NET 2.0,C#.NET 2.0 and Windows Xp Operating system.

I'm using the following code to retrieve the contents of a folder and display the info in a GridView - all good.
[Code]....
This works fine, but it returns ALL available data about the files, and I'd ideally like only a few of the columns. I'd also then like to be able to order the columns.

I am quite a new to the ASP.NET field and trying to populate a gridview with data from xml file. I have already done this using code bihind(C#) when the xml file is simple, like below: Dennys 730 W. Carson St. Torrance CA 90502 5625555555 4 The best burger joint in California! And code bihind: protected void GridView1_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ds.ReadXml(Server.MapPath("RestaurantData.xml")); GridView1.DataSource = ds; GridView1.DataBind(); } But say if I have multiple child of a node in the XML file, say, Dennys 730 W. Carson St.Torrance CA 5625555555 [URL] Then how to load this data(phone & website) in a gridview column using code behind(C#)? And what else I have to do with my aspx page also?

I am trying to bind a CSV file that is stored in my application to a gridview but I keep getting an odd error Heres my code:
[Code]....
The error I am getting is as follows: 'C:UsersTRX-T800DocumentsVisual Studio 2008WebSitesTRXAllianceCSVcustomers.csv' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. However the path is exatly right, I can copy and paste that and go directly to the csv.

I need to create a thumbnail solution in order to display pictures of products.
There can be more than 1 thumbnail per product and I need a way to enlarge the image as well. The thumbnails will be displayed in atleast 3 or 4 pages across the system and I need the ability to delete them as well. For version 2 of the software (knowing PM's it may be thrown into Version 1), I think I will need to be able to enhance this feature to allow movie clips so that's something I need to keep in mind. The images will be stored in the DB so I can sort the code to retrieve them but I'm originally a windows programmer and this is my first major ASP.NET project and also my first attempt at C#.

I am trying to export my GridView info to a readable csv file. Unfortunately, attached is what is shown. Under the Date column, a few dates show up (8/9/2010) but when it switches to 8/10/2010 -8/31/2010 it only shows ######, BUT when I move the mouse over the #######'s it shows the date in the little box thing.
I have this code:
protected void btnExtractCSV_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Clear();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=GridViewExport.csv");
Response.Charset = "";
Response.ContentType = "application/text";......

I need to export a nested gridview to csv file so wanted to create the nesting in the datatable rather than the gridview by having a datatable inside another datatable. Something like the code below (this code does now work as I am unsure how to create the 'Attendees column and assign the value of the second datatable to this new column')
Here is my code so far:
