Forms Data Controls :: Finding The Last Row Inserted Into Gridview Via ObjectDataSource Control
Feb 16, 2010
I have an object data source control. and to insert the control I add the object to the database then call databing on the gridview the DataSource control is bound to.
My question is - how would I know where the newly added row is? I can'y go by id, because the dbase creates the id.
I'm thinking maybe last data key, but based on the sort that would be accurate.

Basically as the title of this thread states, I have a FormView that has a GridView inside it and my ObjectDataSource that populates this grid cannot access the Grid.
The Control Id needs to be the name of the Grid I want to access, however through the 'wizard' the Control parameter drop down cannot 'see' the grid I need, only the FormView that is in.
I have tried numerous ways to get round this and am struggling now..
I've tried the following...
ControlID="FormView.GridView1"
ControlID="FormView.FindControl("GridView1")
ControlID="<%= GetNameOfGrid %>"
and numerous other attempts that also failed that I now cant remember...

Im using Objectivation as a DAL with GridView !
I would like to link item when i create it with the InsertMethode :
I have this 2 table :
Item ( id, name )
ItemRelation( idrelation, idParentItem, idSonItem)
I have a page with a gridview with the liste of item in relation with another item (Same table) : Select * From Item where id IN ( Select idSonItem where idParentItem = @TheItem )
When i add an item from this grid i would like to link it with the current Item : So I insert the Item with the GridView InsertMethod then I do another Query an the ItemRelation with idParentItem as the courant Item and the Inserted Item as the idSonsItem !
so the question is : How to get the id of an inserted Item after i get executed the InsertMethod ?

I have a gridview where I in codebehind add a templatefield

In my update command when i try to find the "Result" textbox I get a null object

In the gridview there is another templatefield "Name" that consist of two boundfields("Firstname" and "Lastname") This column is added in the design phase and not in the codebehind.I don't have any trouble finding these controls using the ID added in the markup
[Code]....My issue is with the result column that I add in codebehind.

I've done a lot of searching on this here but I can't seem to find anyone who has done this. I'm sure it's a common problem but I can't figure out the right keywords to search for the solution so I'm sorry if this is a duplicate.I have a dataset where I've used the Generate Insert, Update, and Delete statements as well as the Refresh the Data Table options so that I can retrieve the last inserted ID when I'm using an ObjectDatasource.however, when I'm handling the ObjectDataSource-Inserted method, I'm getting a 1 as a return value, which I assume is the affected rows. I don't want that, I want the ID so that I can use it in my code.I looked at the generated code for the insert method and it is doing a SELECT after inserting, but it returns the whole row not the ID, so how can I get at this row to retrieve the value?

I have a detailsView that I use for Insert. Once a record is Inserted, I need to get the new idenetity value.
Is there some function that grabs the inserted identity value? Or do I need to query it somehow?
By the way, the reason I'm doing this is the user is inserting a record into a 'general' list that is being applied to a 'specific' list - example, an employee can select a vendor from a list, but the vendor isn't listed so the employee adds the vendor in the vedor list and while the new vendor is inserted, the vendor info is also applied to the new order record.

I am currently binding my Detailsview and Gridview together by a "ID" field selectedvalue "1". Which works great except for the fact that I don't want the user to have to go down to the gridview and select the page and then the record to view it in the detailsview.
I have 1 sqldatasource for detailsview and another sqldatasoure for the gridview. Both have the exact same select statement.
I want the gridview and detailsview to automatically display the last record inserted not the first record in the table.

I'm facing a wierd problem with GridView and ObjectDataSource. I bind GridView to my business objects via ObjectDataSource. Everything was working fine until I decided to add a new field in my buisness object and wanted to add a column to GridView to show it. Somehow that column is NOT shown in the GridView's list of available columns. I have tried refreshing schema, rebinding, etc. I'm using GridView inside a user control which is used as a web part. Does that make a difference ?

I'm coding with VB.NET and have a webform that includes gridview. The gridview captures data via a db view. Also the view includes all the parameters of the tables.
The problem is: when start program, there is only 2 rows seen on gridview. then i can insert something successfully. And when i checked from db i can see the new data. But in my form, newly inserted data doesn't seen. Even i restart the whole program, gridview always shows only 2 entries.

I have read many online articles showing how to implement custom paging with stored procedure and objectdatasource control. So I know the benefits of custom paging on large result sets and I know how to implement it.
In my application, I have a stored procedure which is using ROW_NUMBER and taking parameters such as startIndex, pageSize etc. I also have method in my DAL who call this stored procedure and on my page I have GridView and ObjectDataSource control and they are calling DAL methods and everything is working perfectly fine.
Now I want to implement GridView paging without ObjectDataSource control by calling the DAL methods manually. I dont want to use ObjectDataSource control because I need manual access to the DataTable my DAL methods return which I think I dont have if I use ObjectDataSource control.

I'm trying to write a bit of code that will format all the numeric values in lables in my gridview. here's what i am doing right now:On the RowDataBound Event, i create a row object for the row that is currently being bound.then i go use the FindControl method to grab each label by name.Problem is there's too many columns in this table and i really dont wnat to have to type it all out. Here's an example of what i am currently doing
[Code]....
Can i use myRow.Controls to grab a list of all the controls and then somehow get a list of all labels in the collection and then use a for loop to go through and format each label?

I have a grid that receives products over a GetList methods via ObjectDataSource. The Product class contains also a Object Supplier. If I change in the drop down list of the grid the supplier for a product and I click update the ID of the suppliier is still the same. I have debugged the call of the update method and checked the parameter in the product object. I wrote the following code in the SelectedIndexChanged event and the text box shows the right id but not the update method.
DropDownList supplier = (DropDownList) sender;
txtTest.Text = supplier.SelectedValue;
Here is the code of my grid view:
[Code]....
My Object Data Source calls the following Update Method:
[Code]....
The next work around idea would be to call the update method manually in the Update Event of the grid view.

I've been working a gridview that uses an ObjectDataSource to perform either select, insert, delete or update. I was able to get everything to work correctly with the GridView except when it came to performing an update. My first issue that I came across was that it was tacking on two extra columns or fields that I didn't really expect. The function being called (SavePipelineUser) only expected 4 parameters and was getting 6 in total. This was occuring even though I had placed OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}" or OldValuesParameterFormatString="{0}" within the GridView's attributes.
Ok, So I was able to resolve this issue by going into the OnUpdating event in the ObjectDataSource and doing the following below. This effectively removes the additional parameters from being added. However, I now have a new problem. There doesn't appear to be any values actually being passed into this method. So, while no errors appear, nothing gets updated. Can anyone explain to me why my values are not being carried forward? I've spent about a day and a half working on this issue and was able to get around this by just going with the GridView's RowUpdating event and grabbing values from grid to manually get it to update. While I'm very happy for anything to be working after so much time, I still feel like this is a bad hack for this to work. I have a hard time fathoming why this seemingly simple use of the GridView on my part has turned out to be very complicated. I'm extremely leary now of using the ObjectDataSource object for anything if it's going to be this much of an effort.
<!--html code-->
<asp:GridView ID="gvPipelineUsers" runat="server" AllowPaging="True"
AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="objCommon" AutoGenerateColumns="False" ShowFooter="True"

I'm using a GridView with an ObejctDataSource. The data is provided by a business object and not a DB. It returns a list of people and each person belongs to a group. Now I need to filter data. For example, I need to return list of people in specific groups. How can I specify a list of groups to be able to filter the data ? Could I use SQL like syntax ? I understand the filter expression works only when data is returned as a datatable. But in my business object I maintain data as hashtables and return as List<PeopleInfo>. Do I need to return list as datatable instead ?

I have a gridview with the ObjectDataSource and the Update does not work. When I click on Edit, I go to Edit mode but Update will not work at all. No errors. I do believe that it is in the RowUpdating method but cannot figure out how to call the method UpdateBook from the BookManager BAL.

Put in Breakpoints and it is getting to the RowUpdating but will not update.
