I want to generate serial number in gridview but the serial number should be equal to the count of records for a particular column(in my case No. of Villages).
I know how to generate serial number but i am unable to generate number of rows equal to the number of records of my datatable column(Village_Name---say for example 45 rows--- any no. of rows)
my listview having 3 columns:SI.No,HallticketNo,Name.
I bind data to listview but the "SI.No" column in listview showing Empty data.
So,how to generate serial number in listview ?

i have an application where users are allowed to fill in a form, once saved the form is given a unqiue # in this format: YYYY/MM/DD/### where ### is a 3 digit number, starts at 001, next one would be 002, etc.. the the YYYY/MM/DD is the date the form was saved, so if we had 2 saved today we would get these two:
2011/01/10/001
2011/01/10/002
I just wanted to know how to be sure that those numbers are always unqiue, if two people submit a form at the same time to make sure they are not given the same number? As we had that happen recently now that the application is being used a lot more, two people saved about the same time and once someone clicked save twice while the first save was happening and 2 of the same IDs were generated. Just want to make sure no matter what a unqiue one is always generated. I 'm able to calculate the ###, just wanted to know if there is a way to make sure it's not being used by a process saving right now.

Now the same code when I copy it in my project having masterpage . there is no compiler error but it is genereating excel file withno data in it but in fact there is data in the grid view at runtime.

the next time when i open my web page and come to that Tab, that page of the gridview be appear(the page of the last pink row), not the first page of it.

I am new to asp.net and am hoping this is an easy question. I have a gridview and then I have a couple of dataviews whose sqldatasources looks to the gridview' to be populated based on an ID number in the first column. If there are no rows returned to the dataviews, I generate an insertitemtemplate.
The problem is that I want to pass the value from the ID column in the Gridview over to the insertitemtemplate (because I don't trust the end user to get the ID right). The insertitemtemplate is now blank in all fields. ( I'm doing this in C#).

ex:
1= Goalie
2= Defence
So I did a Class_filters, in which I associate the number to the right string data.
I was wondering how can I do that in GridView? Is it possible?

When I use paging in GridView does limiting selected rows make GridView work faster?
