GirdView and DetailsView in defautl.aspx. When i insert a new record using detailsview it works and gridview is updated. But i want jump to the right page in gridview after importing the record. How can i highlight the new row imported record in Girdview. I use ajax so gridview and detailsview are in updatepanel.

Is it possible to code DetailsView to go to the new record I've just insertted? Currently it appears to default to the first record, utlimatly I'd like it sorted Last name, first name and upon an Insert it should go to that new record on pageload.
View 3 RepliesScenario : I have two database tables with one to many relationship. eg:- City and Related news. So I have a gridview(Gridview1) which lists out all the cities and allows edit, delete of the gridview rows. Now since i wanted to display all news for the city, i have a nested gridview as a column in this Gridview1. This nested gridview displays all the news for the cities. And I have edit, delete buttons for this gridview too - So far, good - works fine.
Now what I would like to do is - To insert a new news item for a city. For this, I attached a detailsview to my nested grid(gridview2), and tried to insert. I need the primary key id of city table from the first grid (gridview1) to insert the news into the second database table and I could not access this value from the parent gridview. My gridview1 does not have datakeyname, it is programatically bound.
Also, When the gridview/detailsview is nested, it does not get listed in the event-handler list. So I cannot use say, detailsview1_iteminserting. I do not how to add this event handler
Has anybody done anything similar? When I started, it looked like a pretty straightforward thing - There must be some way to do this. But I just can't get it to work. How do you usually insert into the child table in a one-to-many relationship? Should i just be using two separate gridviews?
This would seem to be quite a trivial task, however I am having trouble retrieving the identity of the record inserted using the detailsview.insert() in the code behind. It would seem that detailsview.DataKey.Value would contain this value, but it is null after the insert is performed.

View 4 Replies I am currently binding my Detailsview and Gridview together by a "ID" field selectedvalue "1". Which works great except for the fact that I don't want the user to have to go down to the gridview and select the page and then the record to view it in the detailsview.
I have 1 sqldatasource for detailsview and another sqldatasoure for the gridview. Both have the exact same select statement.
I want the gridview and detailsview to automatically display the last record inserted not the first record in the table.
I have a GridView and DetailsView on the same page. If the GridView has data, I can Select a row and it brings up the DetailsView from which I can edit that record or click NEW to create a new record. Without a record to Edit, the New link and the DetailsView control is not visible. What is considered best practices for Inserting the 1st record using a same page Gridview / DetailsView combination?

I have a GridView1 With Paging allowed, PageSize = 10. And a Nested GridView2. The INSERT function on nested GridView2 works well until the number of record is 10.
On inserting the 11th record, the GridView1 is recorded normally in page 2 of 2. The Nested GridView2 does not fired properly. it appears empty on the 11th record (page 2 of 2), but instead add its record on the last recorded ID on page 1 of 2.
When I remove the paging, everything works well.

View 5 RepliesIn my detailsview, I have an emptydatatemplate set up to allow users to enter new records. The code works. However, once the record is inserted, the detailsview defaults to a standard insert screen. I know this will cause confusion for the users. I would prefer the detailsview to either show in edit mode or a read-only mode. I have used detailsview.changemode and detailsview.currentmode in the custom sub created for the add new button of the emptydatatemplate- neither of which do what I was hoping. It would be even better if when there was no data, it defaulted to the insert screen (which seems like that should be an easy, no-brainer way for .net to function) but it doesn't. Or, I don't know how to accomplish it.
I don't want to force the user to click cancel after inserting an item through the emptydatatemplate just to be able to use the detailsview for other records.
Is it possible to add a date time picker to my form view? I use the form view to insert new records into a gridview connected to a Access database.

I have a problem with DetailsView linked with Database, DetailsView is Insert/Edit enabled, and adding/ediditng data works, however........ when I add a new record (DetailsView in Insert mode) and press INSET instead going to record I have just created in Read-Only Mode it shows me blank form, it looks that the "linking" field is null.

View 3 RepliesI have a scenario in which the user can add a new option to appear in the list of available choices in a DDL contained in a detailsview when they select an option <Add New>. This displays an AJAX model popup which then allows the user to enter the new option text. Then they hit an Insert button which inserts that new option into the DDL's datasource and I call ddl.DataBind. Subsequently I want to close the modal popup and then display the newly created DDL option as selected.
When I step through the code, everything appears to be working as expected...i.e. the DDL's datasource now has 1 more record than before and the ddl.SelectedValue is the newly created record for its datasource. I can also query ddl.items(99) and see the new option is part of the ddl's items collection and the new record is Selected.
HOWEVER, once the screen comes back from the debugger, the DDL is now showing the newly created option, but still the prior selected option of "<Add New>". And if you pull the DDL down the newly created option is not in the list?
I cannot figure out how that happens...though I suspect it has something to do with the AJAX/Update panel. Here's some code:

Now this AddGridAddBTN Temporarily adds a data row to a grid but won't submit that data to database, however AddGridSubmitBTN Submits the data to DB through foreach loop .
Now my query is i want to provide user a functionality that when he gets focus on Abbreviation Text Box OR Description Box and he after typing some data Press ENTER KEY , This ENTER KEY would provide funcionality as a AddGridAddBTN Button , and when he presses SHIFT + ENTER , It works like AddGridSubmitBTN Button , also i want to make Abbreviation and Description Field to be filled must !Â
Moral is that :
ENTER KEY WOULD DO : Generate a temporary row with holding previous values as it is actually doing on AddGridAddBTN Button.
SHIFT + ENTER WOULD DO : Enter the whole grid data thorugh foreach loop as it is actually doing on AddGridSubmitBTN Button.
I don't want to refresh my page on enter or shift enter pressing . This grid is binded through SQL DATA SOURCE ...
i have a webform to take user inputs. i am able to insert the data into database on clicking add button and also able to view the
records in the detailsview which is in the next webform.I have a edit and delete button in detailsview.
Now when i click edit button, i want the selected record from the detailsview to be populated in the first webform where i can update the record. also deleting record using delete button.i am using c# code,datatable and oracle stored procedure here.
Im wondering if anyone knows how to display more than one record on the same page for a detailsview control? I could do with maybe displaying 10 per page but cant see no option for doing this.

I would like to do this in C# (code behind) and I store the "datakey" in a "s" string variable. After this I'm lost..
I want to update a record in a detailsview which contains a decimal value which I would like the field to formatted as currency while editing.
When I try to update the record I get an error about trying to pass a formatted value to an unformatted table column. The ApplyFormatInEditMode is set to true and you are cautioned by intellisense about unformatting befor updating the record. This is databound field.
Is this a simple as x = Val(detailsviewrow(1).tostring) ?

On occation a user will attempt to edit a record in a detailsview and they get this error:
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException ddlState has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value
This happens to be a list of states.
Is there way to allow the edit so the user can select a valid state from the list?
have two detailsview controls on the same page, one showing pictures, one showing the comment on the current picture. I separated them because they are in different parts of the page (just in case someone was wondering why). They both bind on the same objectdatasource. The issue is that since I use paging to navigate the pictures and i dont know how to also update the comment detailsview control to the same page as the picture.
