I am trying to show as part of the Gridview table the amount of records found as a total in one of the Gridviews rows. I have some code which does add a row to the Gridview but it does not seem to be counting the number of rows it just shows 0 all the tim. Does anyone know why this might be? you can see the count "visitCount" and the dt.Rows.Add but it doesn't increment

When a user submits the query to SQL when clicking a button I need to get a count of the number of rows that are returned. Which event does the gridview.count code need to be place in?
Right now I have it in the btn_click event, but in order to get it to count the rows you have to hit the button twice since the query is not returned yet. Here is my code.

which i run in the rowdatabound method of the gridview. but when i run it it comes up with an error saying "null reference exception handles by code".i think the error lies in not being able to count the total number of rows in the sqldatasource in the int variable intTotalRecords. i am using sql 2005 db. i have created a table called attendance where i store employee attendance, i want to separate number of absence for a particular employee and particular month. It have to show number of absence of a particular employee and particular month. View 1 RepliesI have the following problem, i am using gridview to display some table info,, and during RowDataBound event i am binding another DataList control placed on gridview template column,,, the problem is that the DataBind() event of the gridview gives "Index 1 is either negative or above rows count." error.
I debugged alot,, when you disable the DataList binding it works,, but why the 2 not working together i dont know!!.

it shows the number of records , but not total ! it shows only the records displaying on the page .
e.g.
if i have a total of 8 records , not page index works and shows 5 rows in gridview and other 3 rows on 2nd page index , but if on first instane page shows 5 records in gridview then textbox shows 5 and when i click on second page index it shows 3 rows ( THAT"S NOT WHAT I CODED AND NOT NEEDED ) i want total rows to be shown

I have created an out-of-the-box (default everything) ASP.NET Dynamic Data Entities Web Site using VS2010, C# and the .NET Framework 4. Created an ADO.NET Entity Data Model based off a MS SQL 2008 R2 database and registered that EF data model for my dynamic data. Everything works great except for the one change I would like to make. By default, the GridViewPager.ascx file provides the values 5, 10, 15 and 20 in the dropdown for GridView's "Results per page" option. I would like to change that to 10, 20, 30 and 40 - with 40 being the default selected option.
I went to the code behind file and modified it to have the values I am wanting. Those values now show in the dropdown, and work if I select them. Problem: when the page is first rendered only 10 rows will show. How can I change this?
I'm sure it was discussed hundred of times, but maybe this time will elucidate some new points )
The question is: do I need to limit number of selected rows in data source for GridView?
When I use paging in GridView does limiting selected rows make GridView work faster?
