Forms Data Controls :: How To Control Using ListView When To Show The Update / Delete / Insert Buttons
Oct 3, 2010
It should be simple, but I didn't found yet how to do it. There is only one user (Admin with user name and passowrd, he has a cookie so I know when he is watching the page) I would like to show him the Update/Delete/Insert button options in my ListView, but to the other users I don't want them to be able doing this kind of things, So it should be hidden from them. How I am doing it in C# code? Showing/Hiding these buttons?
I need a Listview that will show info from several database tables. My delete button, will not delete the record from the database. I cannot get DeleteOnSubmit() to work at all. I am in the very beginner stage. This is my first project. I thought this would be a good project for learning purposes.
DetailsView has 2 properties: AutoGenerateEditButton, AutoGenerateInsertButton for hadling Update and Insert. Is there any way I can use asp:Button or some other buttons to hadle the same tasks?
How would I go about showing the insert row in a ListView? Intially, when I went to configure the ListView, the Enable Update, Delete and Insert checkboxes were all greyed out. I changed a bit of the template code and couldn't access this screen anymore but that's not really a big issue.The Edit and Insert templates are present in my source. To get editing working, I simply adding an asp:Button to each row with the CommandName 'Edit'. However I'm a bit confused as to how I can get the insert row to show. Do I have to create a new button there with the 'Insert' CommandName? If so, where should I put it? Is there another way of doing this?
I just drag a listview to my web page. When I config the data source, click the advanced button.I found that the item "Generate INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements blah blah" is grayed out. Therefore I can'tmodify the records at runtime.I am using VWD 2008 Express,
I have two databases. When I am using MS Visual Web Developer, I can drag the table onto the webpage and it gives me check boxes to Insert, Update, Delete,...When I do the exact thing using the other database, it only has check boxes forpaging, sorting and selection. What is the difference? I seem to have all teh same permissions in both databases.
I have a page that is using the value from a textbox on a previous page to populate a formview. When I generate the Insert, Update and Delete Statements in Web Developer the edit brings up a blank page and the insert and delete don't work. It works if I just create the formview on a page and hardcode the value in the select statement then the Edit/Delete and Insert works.
How do I reference the delete button to add the delete confirmation box when I have both the Edit and Delete buttons as the last two columns in the Gridview control. The following code works fine without any issues when I have the delete button only:
protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { if (e.Row.RowType != DataControlRowType.DataRow) return; int lastCellIndex = e.Row.Cells.Count - 1; Button db = (Button)e.Row.Cells[lastCellIndex].Controls[0]; db.OnClientClick = "if (!window.confirm('Are you sure you want to delete this record?')) return false;"; }
But, when I have both the Edit and the Delete buttons, I get the following error when I click the edit button while the delete button works fine.
Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: index
How do I reference the delete button so the edit button is not affected in this case?
I have made a DetailsView which in DetailsView there is action to add the data, change data and delete the data ..how to save, change, delete data, which is in the DetailsView without saving it in the database?so far I use viewstate, but I do not know how to apply it in DetailsView ..
how to create insert , update , delete . in detailsview without saving in database ..
private void Bindemptydt() { //Declare a datatable for the gridview DataTable dt = new DataTable(); //Add Columns to the datatable dt.Columns.Add("report_id"); dt.Columns.Add("param_field"); dt.Columns.Add("param_label");
I'm new to Asp.net, and I looked at an example of using a listbox's selected index to delete from a sortedlist. I'd like to write somethingthat would get the selected index from a different control, like a listview, and then delete from the sortedlist. I've read up on a few examples on how to bind data from a sortedlist to a listview, but I've not seen an example of how to get the index once the data is displayed! Can this be done?
I want to apply INSERT < UPDATE < DELETE < SEARCH (you can apply searching outside gridview if u wish) in gridview by using XML File Provided above as a data source ...
For your ease here's a link : INSERT UPDATE DELETE IN GRIDVIEW USING XML
how to insert,update,delete row in gridview without saving in database ?suppose 1 textbox,1 button and 1 gridview .textbox and button outside of gridview.
Not sure where I went wrong with this one, but I can't figure it out now... I've got a DetailsView in an UpdatePanel. A dropdownlist controls which person's details are displayed in the DetailsView. I have the DataSource set to an ObjectDataSource, which has select, insert and update methods defined. I also have a method for the ItemCommand, ItemInserting, ItemUpdating and DataBound events of the DetailsView specified.
When I click "New" or "Edit" on the DetailsView I get the open form with either the details for the current person, or a blank form, exactly as I would expect. But when I click the "Update" or "Insert" buttons it does absolutely nothing. I have it running in debug, and have put breakpoints in the ItemCommand, ItemInserting and ItemUpdating methods, right at the top, and it never goes there. The form remains open, and nothing happens. If I click "Cancel", it posts back and goes back to ReadOnly mode.
A couple more minor details that may be important: This page is using a Master page, which is where the ScriptManager is. I'm actually using the ScriptManager from the AjaxControlToolkit. I also have a GridView in this same UpdatePanel, and that has a FileUpload control in it. Because the FileUpload control doesn't work properly without some tweaking, I have to call a RegsiterPostbackTrigger method on page load to link it back to the Master page's scriptmanager. Not sure if that's causing any issues...?
I had this working fine, but then as the page got more complex and I had to change some of the code, at some point it just stopped working and now I can't figure out how to get this working again... I'm happy to post code if necessary, just thought I'd try this first to see if anyone has a quick idea for what to check.
I created a ListView and attempted to delete a record using the delete button and native procedures. It failed and threw an error.Pass in a valid dictionary for delete or change your mode to OverwriteChangesIn researching this issue, it appeared there is a problem with the list view when deleteing and ConflictDetection is set to
I have a listview and in each there is a dropdownlist and a textbox. The textbox is invisible. When I change a value on the ddl it fires the SelectedIndexChangedMethod. In here, if the ddl is certain value I want to show the textbox thats on the same row. How do I grab the textbox from inside this method?
