When I generate the Insert, Update and Delete Statements in Web Developer the edit brings up a blank page and the insert and delete don't work. It works if I just create the formview on a page and hardcode the value in the select statement then the Edit/Delete and Insert works.

Jan 29, 2010Lot of times I did edit, delete, insert in my webproject in different pages but I am very surprised that why I am not remembering the technique to do these task. Actualy I never take any course on asp.net/vb.net, what I did in my project just to take help from forum or asp.net website etc. I get a task again to make a web interface having functionality to view data and provide Edit functionality also. The other task is to click a link in the same page to open a new page with the fields of the same table to insert new record.
Q1: Is it necessary to take a dataset or I simply do it using sqlDatasource?
Q2: Could anyone give me a very basic and simple vb.net/asp.net project with all above tasks so that I will do a practice project and never miss it?

There is only one user (Admin with user name and passowrd, he has a cookie so I know when he is watching the page) I would like to show him the Update/Delete/Insert button options in my ListView, but to the other users I don't want them to be able doing this kind of things, So it should be hidden from them. Jun 4, 2013I have a web app I'm creating and a form that has a formview control on it. The form's default is set to insert and when the user enters data and clicks save, the data gets saved to the database; only problem is that the form then clears all the data out of the controls.
Upon saving after updating or inserting, I'd like to set the form mode to edit and also have it retain the values they input into the form. I've tried a few things and have not had any luck.

Oct 18, 2010How do I clear my formview after a record has been inserted or deleted? At the moment it just sits in the previous state with the same details in the fields, still with the Insert button. Either it would be good to drop the formview altogether (I have a grid view on the same page) or move into the edit mode for the just inserted record.
Also the same with the delete - the formview stays on screen with the deleted record details and the delete button still available - I know it has fired though as my gridview is updated.

Apr 24, 2010I'm using an edittemplate to handle both editing and inserting for a Formview. In Insert mode, the Identity parameter is not needed (and cannot be used in the parameter list). In Edit mode, I need the bound value to know which record to update. So, what I tried to do is set the Text property in the OnDataBinding method.

The result is that the field is bound for Insert anyway, shows up as a parameter, and my insert statement fails (since this extra field messes up the field order of the parameters). Plus, it is always null in Insert mode by definition.
Is the OnDataBinding method too late to clear the property? If so, where can I do this, since PageLoad is too early (the template has not loaded yet and I cannot Findcontrol the field. Or is there a better way to handle all this?

Feb 13, 2011I am using a formview on main web page and the Item template displays my data correctly but I get and error when I try and link to the edit or insert templates.This happens on our remote tesing server only.On my local machine running the page on the local server in VS 2010 everything works fine.But then doesn't it always work on your local machine.I might also mention that I am compiling for asp.net 4.0.

Nov 5, 2010Edit and Delete functionality works flawlessly in Gridview if all data is pulled ONLY FROM ONE TABLE. But pulling data from one table give you ID's instead of actual values that are stored in other tables.
After creating a usable Select statement that would pull all the correct values, my Edit and Delete functionality no longer work.
