I have a text field that users enter information into a database (SQL Server). They are entering as little as a few sentances to multiple paragraphs. I can successfully display the data on my webpage, but the text field is not formatted very nicely. The output is all smashed together like one big paragraph. Ironically, when I also display the text as a tool tip it outputs as multiple paragraphs like it was entered. How can I format the output in the datalist to create a more readable text field? My datalist field is as follows:
<asp:Label id="WebDescriptionLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("WebDescription") %>' ForeColor="Brown" />

I am creating a report and I have several paragraphs of text making up my document inside those paragraphs I have data from my database so its made up of static and data driven fields. I need to bold and under line some of my fields inside my expression. I tried creating several columns and putting in my fields in other columns and that does work however it doesn't look that great sometimes there are large gaps in my text between the static and the dynamic.
here is an example of one of about 14 paragrahs in my report.
="The Borrower hereby notifies MACED that it will use "& FormatCurrency(Fields!TotalAmount.Value) & " to fund the costs reflected in this Requisition No. " & Fields!pk_ReqID.Value & ". The above described loan proceeds will be used for the following purposes and in the following amounts:"
As you can see thats one large field I have it works great other than I need to bold and underline my Value and my date can this be done inside my expression in some way like FormatCurrency(Fields!TotalAmount.Value,"BOLD")

The whole reason for passing the reference is to save round trip to database and not to use SESSION

I am using a GridView and I require the user to be able to filter using 2 controls. One simply filters the type of row - there is a column called action, and the user selects one of the distinct values from the database in a dropdown box, and the gridview only displays the rows with that value in the action column. On it's own this works perfect.
But I am also adding a textbox where the user can type in an ID of either the 'itemID', or the 'parentID'. This works fine even with the previous control.
Problem is, the dropdown box does not work when the textbox is empty (i.e. all ID's are being shown). If I choose a value and click Submit, it just doesn't do anything. Now if I am filtering by ID and then choose a value from the dropdown box, it works perfect.
Here is my filter expression and parameters of the datasource:

I have a gridview of the following form below
ID Expirydate
A 1/02/2011
B 2/02/2009
C 3/01/2009
and I would like to modify my sort expression so that when the expirydate header is clicked on, it will make all those id that has expired pop to the top . In this case, we will have the following as the results
ID Expirydate
B 2/02/2009
C 3/01/2009
A 1/02/2011

Using an objectdatasource I would like to pass an entire DataItem to a function, within a databinding statement. I have found a way that works, but I don't like the look of it. ;-)
Lets say I have a class called "People", with two properties "firstName" and "lastName". I have an objectdatasource which returns a list of "People", and I use that to populate a Repeater.
I also have a function called "GetFullName", which takes a "People" object as it's parameter, and returns the lastname and firstname with a comma between them.
In the ItemTemplate of the repeater, I could do this:
<%# GetFullName(CType(Container, RepeaterItem).DataItem) %>
-but it looks like such a hack. (Doesn't it..? Maybe it's just me.)

I am trying to dynamically add a queryextender expression to the page. something like, when the user clicks a button, we need to add a OrderbyExpression. The following is the code used. It works when added in Page_Load but doesn't when added on a button click event. Upon button click the page just reloads and ignores the filter condition.
OrderByExpression obex = new OrderByExpression();
obex.DataField = "ProductName";
obex.Direction = SortDirection.Descending;
ThenBy tb = new ThenBy();
tb.DataField = "UnitsInStock";
tb.Direction = SortDirection.Ascending;
obex.ThenByExpressions.Add(tb);
this.q.Expressions.Add(obex);
where queryextender1 is the ID of the queryextender

I have a problem using the regular expression validation.In a detailed view I fill out a form to create record for an Employee.I have to enter the Zip code. To validate it I use the regular expression .Then I want to edit the record later. I don't want to edit the zip code ,it's bounded from the select but, the update is keeping asking to re-enter the code.I attached the code to that template as well as the select and update statement

How can I get pass the DataKey of a GridView to a usercontol, preferably without code behind.
Why doesn't this work:
<ucOrderDetails:AJAX_OrderDetail ID="od1" runat="server" OrderNumber='<%# GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString() %>' />
GridView1 is just a list of orders with a DataKey of OrderNumber.
od1 is not inside of a databout control, does it need to be?

I write inline expression and binding expression in the server head section:
[Code]....
[Code]....
But both kinds of expression aren't parsed or executed except the ResovleUrl menthod. The html renders like this:
<head><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<%= Request.ApplicationPath %>themes/style1.css" /><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<%# Request.ApplicationPath %>themes/style2.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/themes/style3.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/jwork.js"></script>
</head>
As I know, the inline expression in the attributes of server control can't be parsed but the binding expression should if we invoke the DataBind method. But the above case breaks the rule.

I have a DataTable that I am creating and binding to a GridView. Currently the headers do not have any spaces and it makes it hard to read. I want to space them out but I'm having a minor issue. What I am trying to accomplish :
Dim dc As Data.DataColumn
dc = New Data.DataColumn("Updated Date", System.Type.GetType("System.String"))
dt.Columns.Add(dc)
What I currently have :
Dim dc As Data.DataColumn
dc = New Data.DataColumn("UpdatedDate", System.Type.GetType("System.String"))
dt.Columns.Add(dc)
I know that I can set the HeaderText in the columns declaration like below, but I won't know how any columns I am going to have. And would rather the columns be generated automatically.
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="UpdatedDate" HeaderText="Updated Date" />
</Columns>

I'm using a DataGrid with edit functionalities in my project. It's handy, compared to having to edit its source data manually, but sadly, that means that I'll have to deal with validating user input a bit more.
And my problem is basically just that. When I set my DataGrid to EDIT mode, modify the values and then set it to UPDATE, what is the best way to check if a value that I've entered is, in fact, compatible with the corresponding column's data type?
i.e. (simple example)
// assuming
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
dt.Columns.Add("aa",typeof(System.Int32));
DataGrid dg = new DataGrid();
[Code]....

I'm trying to use the validator to work on a email form to ensure that they enter a valid from email address. That part works. I also want to add to the expression the text that I pre-populate in the txtbox ("Enter your email address") so on postback, after sending the message, I can clear the fields and repopulate that box.
How do I add that wording to the current expression: w+([-+.']w+)*@w+([-.]w+)*.w+([-.]w+)*
