do you think it would be difficult to write a framework where mvc compares last html it output to the current html we want to output, and instead of sending the entire html, figure out what has changed and generate js code that will do the updating as compared to previous html? (presuming nothing was manually changed on the client using js).

I am using Javascript to create dynamic controls on the page I am not dealing with File Uploads, just creating custom field things.
I think I need to override SaveViewState and LoadViewState events to keep my controls in the ViewState.

I've data which looks something like this.
[code]....
To convert the above data into unordered list based on depth, I'm using the following code
[code]...
But the resulting unordered list doesnt seem to be forming properly(using which i am constructing a tree).For example "Site " with id '180' is supposed to appear as a direct child of "Televisions" with id '1',is appearing as a direct child of 'Flash' with id '191' using my code.so in addition to considering depth,I've decided to consider itemid as well in order to get the treeview properly.Those rows of the table with itemId not equal to null are not supposed to have a child node(i.e.,they are the leaf nodes in the tree) and all the other nodes can have child nodes.
Update:
The 'itemid' column refers to the id of an item which is present in another table.This column just in identifying if an item has any sub items(i.e., 'name' in my data in this case has any other unordered lists under it).

I'm in a little bit of a bind and have some weird behavior happening with a multiview control behaving differently between two machines, and of course, the production machine is the broken one. The page renders the correct content on both machines, but if I save the html file the production machine's source is wrong.
For example, if for step 1 the output should be just the letter A, and step 2 the output should be just the letter B, and step 3 the output should be the letter C, here is what happens:
Step 1:
Production - The source and output are both the letter A
Dev - the source and output are both the letter A
Step 2:
Production - the source is the letter A and the ouput on the browser is the letter B
Dev - the source and output on the browser are both the letter B
Step 3:
Production - the source is the letter A and the ouput on the browser is the letter C
Dev - the source and output on the browser are both the letter C
Is this some issue with SessionState? I'm very new to Multiviews and by no means an ASP expert.

I'm trying to generate a block of HTML code using a VB.net function. I created a function in a class. THe function generates a string that contains html and a strValue that I would like displayed.
public shared function getMyHTML(strValue) return string
str1 = "<table><tr><td><%=strValue%></td></tr></table>"
end function
I added a call to this function in the page_Load event to generate a string on the page. In the aspx page, I have the following code:
<% =stValue %>
The string value passed to the function appears on the page, but none of the html or formatting that is passed. When I view the page using View source, all the HTML is there exactly as it should be. I read this may have something to do with viewstate. But don't know what to use and where to place it to override it.

What I am doing is to generate a pdf booklet from database. I need go generate a content table with page numbers. E.g there are two chapters with page number like:
Content table
Chapter 1 ----- 3
Chapter 2 ----- 17
The text "Chapter 1 ----- " is normal paragraph. But the page number "3" has to be produced using PdfTemplate because it can only be known later. But the pdfTemplate is absolutely positioned. How can I know where to position the PdfTemplate? Am I right on this ? How could I figure this out or should I use other methods?

I have a page with a control like this:
<asp:Button ID="test" runat="server" Text="test" OnClientClick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/bezichtigingsform/deeplink')" />
The OnClientClick-attribute is rendered as:
onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/bezichtigingsform/deeplink')"
When I try to escape the single-quote like this "'" or with a double backslash preceeding the single quote, this does not work. I also tried it like this:
string str = "pageTracker._trackPageview('/bezichtigingsform/deeplink'";
test.Attributes.Add("onclick", str.Replace("'", "\'"));
and of-course I tried all possible escaping-combinations in the above too.
It seems like asp.net just encodes the value, but how can I stop this? I want to be able to generate neat html/javascript-code...

I m trying to read the tags of a local HTML file. I found out this code online but it works for the aspx pages on the server and of the current app only.
___________________________________________________
using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;
foreach (Control c in this.Page.Header.Controls)
{
if (c.GetType() == typeof(HtmlMeta))[code]...
THis code acceses the following section of an html page -
<meta name="Keywords"content=" B=Msdn;A=Forums;L=en-US;"
/>
My question is how can i do the same for a local(client) html page?
Can i do it for a html page on server?

I'm getting this message when going to a web app that accesses my service.
"The content type text/html of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (text/xml; charset=utf-8)..."
The thing is, it happens once in a while even when no changes have been made to the service or the web app. And I can make it go away most of the time by going directly to the .svc?wsdl page in my browser and then coming back to the web app.

I was interested to know whether or not asp.net is allows us to dynamically generate HTML inline on the .aspx Source page (not the code-behind). For testing I created the following simple .aspx page...
In my asp.net code-behind I have the following:
protected List<string> myList = null;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (myList == null)[code]....
Notice that the Repeater control did in fact create the four list items. However, the contents (One String, Two String, etc) of the myList list did not come along for the ride.What do I need to do to evaluate the myList list and get its values inside the list item tags? By the way, I'm not concerned with how to use the Repeater control specifically, so if there is a solution to this problem that does not include the Repeater control, I'm fine with that.
Note: I'm aware that I can bind the "myList" generic list to an asp:BulletedList and get the same result. I am more interested in dynamically creating HTML inline of the Source page.
