I have a gridview with around 7000 rows in it.
The page takes huge amont of time to load..infact sometimes the browser just crashes..
Its a search form and the requirements are such that i cannot enable pagination in it.
How can i decrease the load time...
what is the best way to bind a gridview with data from the database when the data is huge so that the application is fast?

View 1 RepliesWe have our web-based car tracking (gps) software developed in asp.net. We receive positional information every 30 seconds. Overall we get millions of records everyday. We have a historical view which displays the position where the car was throughout the day (24hr period) - this page takes a long time to load. We tried indexing the db, de-normalizing it and also re-wrting the queries - but still not a great improvement. Is there any other best practise that we should follow to load huge loads of data into a webpage (there should be no pagination)? Can we somehow bring it to the clientside using AJAX and try loading it when the button is clicked?

I have a 1.5 GB file into a table. I want to read It from server and create a file stream with it for save.
When I use DataAdapter.Fill(DataSet); code OutOfMemoryException occurs.
What should I do for read a hage file from data base?
I'm currently exporting a database table with huge data (100000+ records) into an xml file using XmlTextWriter class and I'm writing directly to a file on the physical drive.

While my code runs ok, my question is that is it the best approach? Or should I write the whole xml in memory stream first and then write the xml document in physical file from memory stream? And what are the effects on memory/ performance in both cases?

I will indeed be using XmlTextWriter but I meant to say whether to pass a physical file path string to the XmlTextWriter constructor (or, as John suggested, to the XmlTextWriter.Create() method) or use stream based api. My current code looks like the following:

I have a DataTable available with me which contains thousands of rows. There is a column called EmpID which is containing '0' for some of the rows. I want to remove them from my current DataTable and want to create a new correct DataTable. I cannot go row by row checking it since it contains huge amount of data.

I have one Store Procedure that generating report ..
For storing the data there , i used many temp. tables. There is many Select Query , little less insert and delete query.
Now if there is huge data around 1 lac in temp table my select query taking to much time and also may be insert and delete query
I added Primary key to all auto Increment Field in temp table. Also defined Clustered index on that primary key as unique Clustered index to improve the performance .
But there is not so much improvement in case of huge temp table.
Right now the whole Store Procedure is taking time to complete around 1.5 days or around 30 hours ..
So i want to increase the performance as much that it completes on nearly 3-4 hours.
How to display empty GridView to insert new record if no data retreived for some record on the result from data table?Actually i am trying to give a user an option to add recrod from Gridview. I have loaded up a gridview object with data. I have turned on Edit on the grid. It lets me edit the data, but I also want to put some code to check for correct data in each field. I have a customized gridvew i.e. grvResult. There is a textbox and a InsertButton in the footer.
If there is a data populated into gridview it is showing GridView footer and inserting data but if there is no data in gridview then its footer also not visible.
I have tried in two ways to make footer visible but it is showing following error:

I would like to find controls in the detailsview control placed in the EmptyData Template of the gridview. I am trying to create Insert new record for the gridview control.
1. If there are existing records in the table - works fine and sets my two values: I placed Detailsview and Insert Button in the footer of the gridview. I needed to set the values of two fields. When I click on the Insert button it saves new record and sets the field with the value (code attached - works fine). I also have a popup extender that opens detailsview - this works just fine.
2, If ther are not records in the table - saves record but cannot find and set controls on the detailsview Same thing setup in the EmptyData Template. The record is saved but I cannot Find and set the field value on the control.
